  • Nikon AF-S ED-IF Lens Finally Available for Everyone

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 17, 2003
Pros: Optical quality, ED glasses, AF-S & IF features, non-rotating front barrel, compact & light
Cons: high distortion at wide angle and telephoto, plastic body construction

Summary: With this lens, Nikon finally make their AF-S line of lenses available to photographers from all walks of life. This is an incredible lens; besides having a designation of "AF-S ED" it has quite an impressive optics up its sleeve. This lens ... read more

  • Greater than the Sum of its Parts

    Mar 3, 2005
    Pros: AF-S - Overall Performance
    Cons: 67mm filter size

Summary: Although a faster f/2.8, but older D AF version of the 24~85mm was available at the time I was looking for a wide to medium zoom, I opted for the slower, but newer G-type with AF-S and it quickly became my favorite walk around lens. It was the first ... read more

  • A good general purpose zoom

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    May 20, 2003
Pros: Sharpness, fast focusing, lightness, very good for DSLR.
Cons: Hard distortion at edges for film camera, G type, plastic body.

Summary: This is a very good lens: I use it with my Nikon D100 as general purpose lens. Its autofocus is fast and accurate, and its lightness makes it suitable for shooting in every situation. It gives images with very good sharpness and a good contrast. ... read more

  • great upgrade from 28-80's included in today's kits

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 27, 2003
    Pros: small, light, fast focusing
Cons: none as far as everyday photography goes

Summary: I'm not going to to reiterate the other review, I'm just going to give my recommendation. The extra ~$200 for this lens is a steal as opposed to getting the 28-80's usually included with cameras these days. The extra 4mm of wide angle alone would make ... read more

  • Excellent value for general purpose photography

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 27, 2003
    Pros: Small and fast focusing,
    Cons: Requires an AF-S compatible body (N-80, F100, F5, D1, D100, S2Pro, etc)

Summary: This lens offers fast ultrasonic focusing and renders colorful, snappy images. I was much more impressed with its performance over Nikon's 24-120, which I found had contrast issues that gave the pictures a dull appearance. The 24-85 AF-S is ... read more

  • Nice all purpose lens for D1 or D100

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Dec 20, 2002
Pros: Super fast focusing, lightweight, low cost, low distortion
Cons: Less range than other zooms, odd filter size

Summary: I bought this lens for my D100, since my older glass didn't give me the range I wanted with the D-series 1.5x magnification factor. That makes this an equivalent 35-130 lens, which I find great for portraits and general snapshots. On this ... read more

  • Nikon Nikkor 35mm Perspective Control Lens

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Dec 2, 2001
Pros: A specialty lens by Nikon that can also double as your standard 35mm wide angle.
Cons: Stop down metering; loss of a few frames while you adapt to this lens.

Summary: I bought this lens new about fifteen years ago for an advertising assignment. The exteriors involved needed "cleaning up" and this lens did an admirable job. Anyone who shoots architectural photography or historical/archival photography will find this a ... read more

  • Best all-purpose nikon lens !

    Aug 8, 2004
Pros: CRISPY !!! Fast AFS. Good price.
Cons: Zoom a little short. Unusual filter size.

Summary: That's the most crispy wide-angle zoom lens I ever seen. The AFS makes it really very fast too. It's now my all-purprose lens on my f80. The 24-120 VR has a longer zoom, but it's bigger, heavier, more exprensive and less
