Pros: Fast, Light, Compact, Exceptionally Sharp, Sturdy, Good Bokeh, and Cheap
Cons: Under-Damped Manual Focusing, Closest Focus is 36 inches
Nikon has been making quality optics since 1917. By the late nineteen thirties the company had become a major defense contractor, manufacturing optics, optical devices, and precision instruments for the Japanese Military. After the fall of Japan,...
Pros: Fast, very bright and sharp 85mm telephoto Cons: Plastic lens barrel, closest focusing isn't close enough...
Once again, a decision to buy a specific lens was made because I was able to take advantage of the product reviews posted here at epinions. In particular, my curiosity about this lens was heightened after reading Howard Creech's outstanding review of...
Pros: Fast, Sharp, Light Lens That Balances Well On A Camera Cons: Barely Adequate Manual Focusing Dampening, Plastic Exterior
The Nikon 85mm f1.8 AF lens is the perfect fast medium telephoto lens for someone who wants speed and sharp images at a price that won't instantly drain your wallet. I chose this lens over its pro-oriented cousin the 85mm f1.4 because I don't use this...
Pros: Fast, sharp, relatively compact, not too pricey Cons: no major faults
This is an exceptionally sharp lens, which gives the photographer a little more reach than the standard 50-55mm normal lens, and is especially 'kind' for portraiture, allowing selective focus to emphasize the face, while slightly longer focal length...
Pros: Fast, Low Cost, Sharp as a Razor, Sturdy Cons: Minimum Focusing Distance too far

Well, it is a fast lens for such a range allright. I bought it because I needed a lens to do portraits and I didn't have the money to buy the 80-200 F2.8 at the time. It served me well for quite a while. When I finally saved up enough to buy the 80-200...
I bought this lens because I needed a fast lens for indoor candids. It is very fast. AF is fast too and accurate.
But the most important : this lens is SOOOOO sharp ! It's even sometimes TOO sharp for candids...
Good for concerts, theatre (if permitted).
Color accuracy is neutral, so very good.
Contrast is a little low at f1.8, but at f2 it's perfect.
Build quality is average. Just what I wait from a product of this price.
I couldn't notice any distortion. Light vignetting under f4. I didn't notice any flare.
Closest focus is at about 40 cm, good but too long for macro.
The included screw-in hood is a little annoying, but it is metal-made...
