Pros: Great feature set, tiny and lightweight, cheap
Cons: No metering with MF lenses, no DOF preview
Nikon’s tiny new N55 was designed to introduce a whole new generation of photographers to the joys of SLR photography. For many years Nikon’s reputation as the camera of choice among professional photographers has intimidated beginning shutterbugs....

Pros: Automatic features make this a nice camera for a novice. Cons: Can't use external shutter/button cord
I bought this camera because I wanted a SLR to take portrait shots of my daughter for scrapbooking. I knew nothing about slr photography so I liked the flexibility to go "automatic". What I like about this camera is that I have been able to learn a ...
Pros: Low Price. Easy point and shoot camera, with options to be creative. Cons: Auto-focus problem. Maybe too small for people with big hands.
Nikon N55 is a great entry level camera for the amateur and those who don't really want to understand photography. At first glance, you will notice it looks like any other 35mm SLR camera. However, holding it in your hand, it felt like it's in 3/4 ...
Pros: Lightweight, portable, many settings, clear instructions, battery life = very long Cons: Not as many separate lenses as canon
I bought this Nikon camera for my Photography class in school, but I absolutely love it now. It's got a ton of different settings, so if you're a beginner and just want to be able to point-and-click, this camera's for you. Likewise, if you're a photo student, this camera offers functions to adjust the shutter, apeture, etc. I personally love the multiple-exposure setting on it. Let's say you want to merge 2 peoples' faces together. All you do is hit a button, and then take pictures of both faces... and the camera adjusts the light intake and shutter in order to correctly double-expose the film. I usually use mine for black-and-white pictures, but I also use it for color pictures too. Either way, this camera is probably your best bet.
Pros: Overall wonderful camera for the price. Cons: No, place for a bulb to be attached.
Lightweight, and very compact for a 35mm SLR camera!Ease of use and great construction, compared to other cameras in this price range, i.e. Cannon or Olympus.

This camera is by far one of the best in the category. I was looking for a camera that would offer the quality of an SLR with the ease of a point-and-shoot. I found it in this Nikon. It is small and convenient to carry on most excursions and really does all the work for you. My pictures are considerably better than those I snapped with my point-and-shoot.

I have owned many classic slr cameras and lenses. I avoided the new plastic cameras and lens mounts for years, but having seen the results from this camera, I realize my mistake. Unless you take pictures for money, the weight, versatility and size of this camera leaves nothing to be desired. It's great.
