Pros: Ultra Sleek Design, Backlight, Rechargeable Battery Cons: I Just Bought My GBA Like 2 Years Ago.
Nintendo is probably the best known console manufacturer this world has ever know, the company's hardware legacy began before the video game industry really hit the mainstream. There has always been one thing that Nintendo has always been the master of; ...
Pros: small, folds up, backlit, built in rechargable battery Cons: no built-in earphone jack, no batteries, battery life is less than old GBA
I was a little hesitant to pick up a Gameboy Advance SP unit. I knew what the new features were and I didn't think that they appealed much to me. After my daughter was born and with and with my son on the way; many new factors played into my decision to ...
Pros: new compact design, lap-top design, an actual built in light, no more light peripherals! Cons: design may be too small for some people, no headphone jack
When I was little, I could have been considered a deprived gamer based off the fact that I never had an original Gameboy, an SNES, or any of the other older systems except for the NES (everyone has one of those basically). Shortly (as in...
Pros: Finally, the screen is lit up Cons: Nintendo is, oh, 10 or so years late on this 'innovation'
For the past 14 years, Nintendos Game Boy has been the absolute dominant leader in handheld gaming (some would say a monopoly, but nobody at Nintendo looks like the Monopoly guy anymore). Despite being technically inferior to most of the...
Pros: rich game collection, backlight screen, rechargeable battery, sleek design, clamshell design Cons: the re-designed shoulder buttons, no headphone jack
Ever since I can remember, Nintendo has always dominated the portable games market. NeoGeo tried, Sega put up a good fight, yet Nintendos Game Boy always came away as the winner. I never played the original Game Boy and only got a little playing ...
Pros: Small, durable, well-lit screen, loads of games, rechargeable battery. Cons: No headphone jack.
Where have you been all my life? That was the first thing I thought as I plugged in my new Game Boy Advance SP after Santa was gracious enough to bring me one this past Christmas. It brightened my eyes in quite the same way it did ...
Pros: Compact design, built-in light and flip up screen Cons: None that I can see so far.
My kids had been bugging for a Game Boy Advance ever since it came out. We rented it from Blockbuster a few times to see what it was like and the kids loved it, but we didn't really have the money, so they were still stuck with their Game Boy...
Pros: Finally a backlight. Cons: No headphone jack.
Why is it that over the last year my first choice in console has always been the GameBoy Advance? It's surely not because of the groundbreaking graphics or digital audio The reason is simple: games. The SNES is arguably one of the best...
Pros: A backlight (finally!), rechargable battery, sleek flip-top design Cons: Awkward L/R placement, no headphone jack
Nintendo's always been a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to hardware design. Just about every piece of hardware they've produced has had one fatal flaw that kept it from being perfect. Consider the NES's original spring-loaded cartridge slot, the...
Pros: New light feature, save money on batteries, thousands of games. Cons: Other then a few changes, it's not too different from the previous GBA.
GAME BOY ADVANCE SP (2003-????) Nintendo's original 32-bit Gameboy Advance (GBA) was a fine upgrade to the popular 8-bit Gameboy Color but as good as the portable system was the GBA was far from perfect. Although it had tons of great ...
Pros: Backlight makes for better visibility. Compact design helps keep scratches and dust off the screen. Cons: While there are many games you can play, there aren't too many "unique" ones available.
Errors and omissions are something of a major part in the hardware business of video games. For more than twenty years now, the video game industry has run itself to a point where technology has significantly advanced during a shortened time period. ...
Pros: More classic titles than you can shake a stick at; rechargeable battery; durable construction Cons: Nintendo killed Atari -- hard for a classic gamer to get past that fact
If you're looking for a review about the technical specifications of the famed Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, you're not going to find it here. That subject has been covered time and time again, and I'll not dwell on it too much. If you're looking at such ...
Pros: Lots and lots of games available Cons: No headphone jack, still pretty expensive
Now that I have written well over a dozen GBA game reviews, I suppose it's about time I review the player itself. Since the release of the new Gameboy DS, I am hoping that the price of the GameBoy Advance player and games will drop some more. You can ...
Pros: Light source, compact design, LCD screen Cons: price, no headphone jack
Why would you buy a new handheld game system if you already have a perfectly good one? If the new one offers great features that your old one doesn't have, if it's smaller and more portable, or maybe if you want to be the person with the newest and most ...
Pros: Sleek design, low environmental "footprint". Cons: No headphone jack, feels like a little bit of a money grab.
A while ago, Nintendo came out with the GBA and everyone was stoked on it, except for one little thing. The lack of a backlight. For games like Castlevania, it made it really hard to see the backgrounds and attacks unless you were tilting the screen ...
Pros: Backlit, rechargable battery, secure unit. Cons: Shoulder buttons, no headphone jack.
Quick Facts: Game Boy Advance SP Hand Held Video Game system, manufactured by Nintendo in 2003. 2.9 inch screen size, backwards compatible with all GBA and GB games. Rechargable lithium ion battery, system priced about $90 at the time of this ...
Pros: Long lasting battery, mutable speaker, small size, durable. Cons: Games aren't as complex or good looking as Playstation Portable.
When I recently purchased a Game Boy Advance SP console I was mentally prepared for disappointment. I thought this small, portable game system was bound to be flimsy and cheap. The long history of Game Boy systems made me think this would be ...
Pros: Plays all the old Gameboy/Colour games, slim design, back light, rechargeable lithium-ion battery Cons: Nintendo DS is out, forced to use Nintendo's head phone jacks, lack of sport games.
My experience with the GBA SP: I bought this system 6 months ago because I wanted to play GameBoy Advance games but could not do so because I had a GameBoy Colour system. I picked it up for $100 (CDN $) at Wal-Mart and bought Advance Wars as ...
Pros: tons of game, back lit screen on the new ones Cons: small L and R buttons, keeping track of the adapter.
I got my GBA SP a year ago when I saw it on sale and since I had been having trouble with my GBA seeing how I broke a piece in the back where the batteries are held using my Pelican recharger. It only worked with the rechargeable batteries and even ...
Pros: Compact folding design, a light, potential savings on replacement batteries. Cons: Battery not easily replaced while travelling or camping.
My Game Boy Color was getting rather old. The main symptom is that it's now quite difficult to find games for it in the shops. After some undecidedness I figured that it was time to open my options up a bit more. For once, I had a decent amount of...
Pros: Somewhat entertaining, rechargable battery, small, wide choice of games available. Cons: Extremely uncomfortable, Expensive games, repetative, no brightness control, random save options
I've never been a big gamer, but lately I've had the urge to maybe change that, and started playing different games on my computer and my cell phone. Hohestly, to me the more complicated the game is, the less likely it is to keep my attention. For that ...
Pros: Batteries? We don't need no stinkin' batteries! Or a light source for that matter. Cons: Um, stereo sound is going to cost you extra.
A short, short time ago in a country far, far away...
It doesn't seem that long ago that I was surrounded by a ton of freaks and geeks at my local Funcoland (Now, I suppose, a Gamestop and no longer local seeing as how I live in Korea...
Pros: Backlight, long hours of rechargeable power, previous GBA gadgets still work. Cons: Crampy feel for some, back to the GBC feel.
Not too long ago, Nintendo released a system that would revolutionize the way we think of hand-held gaming; but it didnt. 32-bit graphics and a speaker under the thumb with flashy games didnt seem like anything revolutionary, just an inevitable...
Pros: Perfect size, excellent screen, compatibility, rechargeable, LONG battery life. Cons: Almost too good to be true. Flimsy.
Video games, my earliest vice (and still alive and well, I might add). Having used virtually everything that could run a game in it, I know about this stuff. Timex Sinclair, the Vic-20, Commodore 64, Amiga 128, Atari2600, Colecovision, Intellivision,...
Pros: The Gameboy finally has a perfect screen after nearly 20 years! Cons: Outside of system can get scratched easy, no headphone jack.
Updating this review based on the new backlit GBA SP that is out. First i would like to warn everyone that there is a HUGE difference between the First GBASP and the GBASP with a backlit screen. I will be referring to them as the GBASP1 and GBASP2 ...
Pros: Small size, great look and design, ergonomic, great battery, charges fast, backlight Cons: Built in battery so you can't swap in new ones, no built in headphone jack
When I was a kid, I never had a single game console. My friends all did, but I never had one, nor a GameBoy. I would go to their houses and play theirs and I was envious - we had computers instead. The first GameBoy was an ingenious device, it was a ...
Pros: excellent graphic quality, bright easy to see screen, rechargeable battery Cons: controls are are slightly more difficult to use than standard GBA
The following is based on a 10 point scale. Controls: 6 Screen: 7 Lighting: 10 Power Supply: 10 Sound: 10 Portability: 10 Overall: 88% INTRODUCTION For anyone considering a handheld gaming system, take a serious look at the GBA SP. ...
Pros: Smaller, compact, half the size of other Gameboys; light, plays all (except one) games Cons: Front light, not backlight. Smaller L & R buttons.
This new Gameboy does in fact look revolutionary. It folds in half, much like those clam-folding esque phones. This makes the Gameboy Advance SP much more compact and much easier to carry with you.
Pros: FRONT LIGHT!!!, portable design, large game library, rechargeble battery Cons: no headphone jack, volume slider, uncomfortable for wrists
Intro Before the Game Boy Advance SP, there were basically three ways to solve the lighting problem of the original GBA (Game Boy Advance). You could've: 1. Bought cheap, useless aftermarket add-ons. 2. Riskily took apart your GBA to install a ...
Pros: Compact, Side lit, Clam Shell design, Battery life, rechargeable, Games Cons: controls, uncomfortable, extension for earplugs.
Intro:
The first handheld to come out that used cartridges was the original Brick... I mean Game boy. I can remember holding the 5 lb block and playing Mario black and white. The game boy has advanced so much more powerfully to reveal the...
Pros: Great design and easy to use. Plays old school Nintendo games. Cons: Still hard to see graphics on certain games.
This little console is addictive; you put it down and you can feel yourself itching to pick it right back up. And you do. Luckily, the battery lasts forever, and, if you do use it up, it's not a problem since you can recharge it as you play. Now that's ...
I have been a Gameboy fan for over a decade. From the original clunky, beige box with the green screen, to the more svelte icy-blue Pocket variant, to the Gameboy Color, to the "no frills" Gameboy Advance and now, the Gameboy Advance SP!...
Pros: Rechargeable Battery, Sidelit screen, very pocket friendly, huge variety of games, powerful. Cons: No headphone jack (dongle required), shoulder buttons a bit awkward for large hands.
When the first Gameboy Advance (or GBA for short) came around, my epinion was not very favorable. And with good reason - It wasn't usable in poorly lit circumstances. While the unit itself was comfortable in your hands, it wasn't completely pocketable...
Pros: Front-lit LCD. Rechargeable battery. Cons: No headphone jack
Easily the most sleek and stylish of the Game Boy line, the SP offers two significant enhancements; a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery system and a front-lit LCD screen. Both work so well that its safe to say Nintendo will be forced to include them as...
Pros: small, compact, backlit, big game library, not too pricey Cons: grapics off a bit, delicate screen
Now I've been a fan of gameboys ever since the day when I was probably less than 10 when I saw my cousin's Gameboy Color. My parents decided to get me one when I was 11 on christmas, I was hooked. Eventually I got the Gameboy Advance (GBA) which I ...
Pros: Finally back-lit, great games, handheld fun... Cons: Questionable durability, lacking in the now standard six-button format...
Did it take anyone at Nintendo too much I.Q. to throw out the idea that a 32-bit handheld should maybe have a back-lit screen? Hey guys, ever hear of the Sega Game Gear? Yeah, they went under with that one, but until the SP, it was a superior hand held ga ...
Pros: Light, lithium-ion battery, awesome design Cons: headphone jack, loss of sleep
You are either 1 of 3 kinds of people.
1) You own a GBA with an "add-on" light source such as the worm or Afterburner (which i'm sure hardly any of you own) and you really aren't sure if the extra $100 is worth getting a whole new system....
Pros: Compact form factor, sharp backlit screen. Cons: Rechargeable battery means you have to carry a charger with you when you travel.
I've owned every single iteration of the GameBoy since the original was introduced in 1989. Like many I became addicted to Tetris and the other puzzle and mindbender games that were released for the original system. It was great for passing time on a...
Pros: Old school classic with a new school flavor. Cons: Super tiny and hard on the hands.
Remember all those great games from your childhood? You know like Metroid, The Legend Of Zelda, even Super Mario Bros. 3. All those hours you spent planing the perfect path through a level so you could get all the secrets in one shot with out losing ...
Pros: Backlighting, cool sleek design, not as big as it's other brothers. Cons: Wrists cramp up after a while, speakers aren't very loud, no headphone jack,
I'm not a big fan of Nintendo but when it comes to a hand held console and games the Game Boy Advance SP is my first choice. When you first look, you might think the new SP is some sort of travel alarm clock. When it's closed, it's just as tall and ...
Pros: Small size, bright screen, Cons: Expensive console, expensive games relative to other consoles
I remember when I first had a gameboy, it was about 3 pounds and 10 times the size of any recent gameboy. I have to say though, it was deffinetly a lot of fun then, even in its mammoth state. My little brother got the new gameboy sp for his birthday. ...
Pros: Back lit LCD Screen, Rechargeable Battery, Great Design, Simple Cons: No Headphone Jack, L & R Buttons Hard to Use
Diving right into it, one of the first pleasures one will encounter when opening the box to their new Nintendo GameBoy Advance SP (which stands for Special, according to Nintendo.com) is the incredible, and I don't use the word lightly, ...
I'm a product of the video game age. I grew up and blossomed just as the video game industry did as well. At the age of 8 or 9 or so, I thought I was the smartest thing on the block because I thought of this great idea: what if my Nintendo screen was ...
Pros: New version with old SP design but with new superior backlit screen Cons: Not for people who love the big consoles: XBOX, PS2, etc.
Not very many know that Nintendo released a new backlit version of it's Game Boy Advance SP. Nintendo did not announce this new SP, possibly so it wouldn't effect the sales of the new Nintendo DS and the Micro Game Boy. The first GBA SP was released in ...
Pros: lighting, rechargeable battery built in, foldable screen Cons: headphone jack not included
I could never get around to buying a GBA, though I would borrow my sister's every once and a while. The screen would always get scratched up, and there was no lighting built in; combined, these problems with the original GBA would leave my eyes feel...
Pros: Great game selection. Small. Fun and quite. A must have for Metro. Cons: Older Tech, but still cutting edge compared to Atari 2600.
To anyone whom rides the metro / subway, I present to you the solution extraordinary. Now first lets set some ground rules. I am 30 year old male and not the greatest video game tactician. Rather I grew up playing Pac-Man and Space Invaders. Classic ...
Pros: Good Games Light Battery Cool Design Cons: If you already have a GBA wait till the price drops
Why? Why did Nintendo release this now? They should have released this like two years ago so everyone will not be trading in their GBA's for this. This has a built in light and has a pretty cool design (with the flip thing and all) but i want to now ...
Pros: Compact; bright screen; solid; re-chargable battery has long life. Cons: Expensive; headphone adapter jack available but not with system.
Let me start out by saying that I am a mom...not a gamer, so I can't give you any technical aspects about the device. That said, I have owned the original Gameboy for many years and also have several of the original classic games like Tetris, Mario...
If you currently have or have seen a GameBoy Advance, you will know how hard it is to see the games. Well, Nintendo realized this and re-designed it. Product: The Gameboy Advance SP is a unique system. It has a Back Light! If you do not know ...
Pros: Backlit Screen, superior processing power, portability Cons: hand cramping size, inaccessible shoulder buttons, no headphone jack, cart location

Pros: Reverse compatible, rechargable battery, good colors and graphics. Cons: no 3mm headphone jack. But that's nothing to really boo-hoo over, is it?
I think I've had just about every Game Boy system since the big bulky gray thing back in 1989. Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and now the Advance SP. This is the best $99.99 I've ever spent, I have to say. The first Game Boy Advance ...

Pros: Rechargeable battery and back light features. Cons: Need more original games.
I'm on my 3rd game boy system and it's the best upgrade to date. I had the original one with the gray color and the old display. Well, that was in then and a good buy. Then, I traded that one in and got Game Boy Color and that was even better since it ...
Pros: Built-in light, good for anywhere Cons: none

Pros: Great game library, sleek design Cons: Long gaming sessions may be slightly uncomfortable for people with large hands
Handheld gaming has always had its opponents; why settle for a bite-sized experience, even if you have to sacrifice immersion and gameplay for portability? The arrival of Nintendos Game Boy Advance silenced the naysayers and proved you CAN have good ...
Pros: Backlight, many games, rechargeable battery Cons: Price, easy to lose or get stolen
I love Game Boys. In fact, I've owned every one but the original. I'd have to say that the SP is by far the best. Here's why: -Backlight helps you see anywhere you need to. -Compact design makes portability even easier--it can fit in a pocket! -The ...
Pros: Screen Light, Rechargable battery, lightweight Cons: Size of device

Pros: Back-lit Screen, portability, color choice, game selection, battery life Cons: screen scratches easily, no AA or AAA batteries
Behold! The new Game Boy Advance SP! Of course, now in 2006, mixed with the PSP, PS3, XBOX 360 and Nintendo DS and Wii, it doesn't make much of an entrance. But, for those looking for the good old days, where Pokemon and Zelda dominated the scene, than ...

Pros: Built-in lighted screen and rechargable battery a big plus! Not bulky to carry around. Cons: Headphone adapter must also be bought for silence.
My 9 year old (at the time) had a gameboy color and a gameboy advance. He really didn't need a gameboy advance SP, and actually he never asked for one. But I saw a commercial and I was sold. He plays so much with his gameboys, I knew I had to get him the ...
Pros: Laptop design, backlight, and functionally with all GameBoy games. Cons: Outside can easily get scratched up pretty bad.
I had originally gotten the "old" GBA SP but my first one broke. Then I broke my second one. Then I got the "new" SP. The difference on the 2 SPs? The 2002 model has one level of backlight (on and off) and the battery life is 10 hours on, and 13 ...
Pros: Great new features like rechargable batteries, a backlight and a good design. Cons: No headphone jack

Pros: Built-in Light, Rechargable Lithium Battery, 32-bit processor, charger, Cons: No earphone jack. You need to buy an adapter!

Pros: Bright, backlit screen; Li Ion battery; Protective clamshell design; Compactness Cons: Battery not easily replaced

A great buy for my 3-4 yr old....... by mom2ethanb ,Oct 29 '06
Pros: Bright screen, tons of games, rechargeable battery, lot's of accessories. Cons: small and is misplaced easily, some games are to old for "youngins"
You can plug it right into the car adapter, it has a rechargeable battery (that you don't constantly have to remove and replace) and a nice bright screen. It has easy to use buttons for a four year old also. He doesn't like the fact that the volume doesn't go up real high, (But I DO). One odd thing is the headphones require a special insert that you have to buy seperately. They make plenty of games to hold my sons interest and many are under 20 dollars. Even less if you buy them used! My son loves this system and so far it's performed very well overall. For a 3 to 4 year old there are still many games, like the cat and dog games, monster trucks, and little einstiens. His absolute favorite would have to be Mariokart.
The great thing is he'll probably wear this thing out before he ever outgrows it as there is such a variety of games and movies for it. I highly recommend this product for keeping a childs interest on those long boring car trips and it works on husbands too!
Nintendo Advance SP - Good value by houdini16409 ,Oct 03 '06
Pros: not expensive, great variety of games Cons: none
I think that the Nintendo Advance SP is pretty decent for it's price. I purchased one about 3 months ago, brand new for about $79.99. Nintendo is one of the only game companies which I feel that their games are reasonably priced. I tend to buy previously played video games because they come with a guarantee that they will work and they are considerably less.
The graphics on the SP are quite good and it fits comfortably in my hands. The battery last forever, which is great for long car rides. There are several inexpensive carrying cases for the SP you can purchase separately that will hold a few games too. I chose to purchase this handheld versus others because of the variety of games you have to choose from. There are other video game systems out there which don't have nearly the selection. With the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, you can get your great classics too - Like Super Mario and Zelda, which are not available on Xbox or Playstation products.
Overall, I think that it is a great value for the price. Would recommend it to anyone!
Great game console with many cute games. by punkzoo ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: Lots of games aimed towards young kids Cons: NA
Our four year old got the gameboy advance for christmas and loves it. There are many simplistic games for his age. Also it is easy for him to hold and the screen is very bright and easy to see.
Pros: -Light is VERY COOL
-Battery is a SUPER MONEY SAVER
-The FOLD-DOWN TOP is awesome Cons: -There are NO NEW GAMES
-The HIGH PRICE can get annoying while saving up
This is the MOST ORIGINAL Handheld out there. Lately, people have been adding iternet connections, IMing...everything just to get buyers. But let me ask you this: Why are you buying the GAME BOY ADVANCE SP? The Answer: TO PLAY GAMES AND HAVE FUN!
Anyway...
While making the GBA SP, Nintendo made two of their BEST CHOICES EVER!
--THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY
Now, with the battery, there's NO MORE buying AA batteries every weekend. All you have to do is plug in your SP when your not playing it, and withing 3 hours it's fully charged. Plus, the SP Battery has NO MEMORY, so it's okay to play while it's charging, or charge it while it's still only halfway empty.
--THE INCLUDED BACKGROUND LIGHT
Now that they've come out with the GBA Video, the light is very helpful. All you need to do it pop in your GBA Video, and watch SpongeBob, Fairly Odd Parents, or whatever you bought, and you can see no matter where you are!
Pros: Bright screen, visible, nice controls Cons: Not too many!
My family and I cannot stop using this toy! It plays the old Gameboy games for mom and dad, and Cars and other new games for the three-year-old. Very good deal for the price - can't beat the value. Plus plenty of games and manufacturer support. You can't go wrong with this one.
Pros: lithium battery, compact size, front lit screen Cons: control placement
As a previous owner of the original GBA, the improvements in the SP console are many. The new built in battery and compact size are great additions, but the real selling feature is the front lit screen. God I hated the glare on the old GBA screen, it often made visibility impossible. The SP is a quality purchase all around. My only complaint is the small grip required, and the size and placement of the R and L buttons.
Pros: Portable
Folding
Small Cons: Some games
Only few buttons
I loved mines, until it was stolen. This is a very good item and played games at a good speed even though it came out way back. Quality of gaming to todays standard is fair, but in its time one of the best for portable.
comparing Advanced to the SP by adambettcher ,May 31 '04
Pros: fits in pocket; lights comes from the inside; comes with more items Cons: cost more; games stick out if not advanced games
The Game Boy Advanced is not as good as the SP. The first thing is the remarkable difference of portability. The fit in your pocket SP can come with you where ever u go and you don't need a case for it. Night play is another essential that all Game Boy systems should have. The light in in the machine illuminates the area around the screen making it perfect for long trips in the car late at night. It also comes with an adapter and rechargeable batteries. Cost is more but remember, you also are getting a few more items with your purchase. If you are using games that aren't advanced games though they stick out and can annoy you the whole time. It is easily a better deal in the end.
The best hand-held game system in the world! by radiocycle ,Dec 28 '05
Pros: Great games, easy to see screen, small size fits in pocket, looks cool, and mostly: WAY FUN! Cons: Needs larger battery and earphone adapter. Both easy to buy.
I've had several hand-held systems in the past. I thought the Nintendo GameBoy Color would be the best when it first came out, so I bought a ton of games for it. But if it only had a screen that was easier to see, I thought. I wrote to Nintendo and told them that was an improvement that would really make a huge difference. Well, when I first saw the GBA SP I was ecstatic! This is the best system that has ever been produced and probably ever will. There are so many cool titles for this machine! Zelda, the Minish Cap is an absolute classic!! Best game ever produced bar none. So many cool 2D games for this machine it's hard to know what to play next! I like it way better than the computer generated 3d stuff on the bigger systems; those hand drawn backgrounds on Castlevania are FANTASTIC! ...Do you get the idea that this is a fun game system?? If you don't have it by now then BUY IT!! You won't regret it!
Pros: Has light up screen and a rechargeable battery. Great variety of games available. Cons: The Game Boy Advance SP does not include a headphone jack.
The Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP definitely holds my twelve year old son's attention on long car trips---much better than the regular Game Boy Advance did. The lighted screen certainly makes a welcome difference.
The design is great. It's like a mini-laptop computer that you can open and close. One side has the screen and the other side has all of the buttons.
No more regular batteries are needed. We love the fact that it comes with an AC Adapter that automatically charges the internal rechargeable lithium battery if it runs low on power---even as you play it, (although it will charge up slower.)
The Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP plays the older Game Boy Advanced games as well as the newer ones.
Finally, the gameboy we've all been waiting for by aliasjane ,Jul 31 '04
Pros: plays all gameboy games. has a light and rechargable battery pack. Cons: none
The gameboy advance sp is the gameboy all nintendo fans have been waiting for. It is backwards compatable with all gameboy games, even the non color games. This system has a huge library with hundreds if not thousands of games. The new design is easy on the hands. The previous system would make my hands cramp up. The light is great. I can finally see the games I am playing. It comes with a rechargable battery pack. The design allows for the system to be truly portable. I can carry it in my pocket.
Game Boy Advance SP? Is it much better? by superman926263 ,Jan 08 '05
Pros: don't have to buy accessories. Cons: Doesn't have better graphics or different functions.
Gameboy Advance SP is a good system over all. It is pretty much a game boy advance that can fold over, has a back light, and recharges itself. I would recommend to buy either the first Gameboy Advance or save up a little more money and buy a Nintendo DS.
How did we ever survive without the backlighting... by grrlduda ,Jan 01 '05
Pros: So many games for Game Boy Advanced SP that will keep you busy. Cons: Hands get tired after long game play. Buy accessory to make it easier to hold.
I never bought the previous GameBoy because it had no light. I knew one day they would finally add one so we can play games in the dark. I love games. It passes time when your in line at the post office, waiting for a movie to start or just have nothing else to do.
Pros: Considerably the best hand-held system, convient of anytime and anywhere Cons: The price is very high considering it still plays Game Boy Advance games
Two months ago I had purchased the SP. I find it very convenient to everything I do. The size is small enough to fit in my pants pocket without it bulging out; the screen is protected because it flips shut so I can put it in my bag without worrying about the screen. If the lighting in any room is very dull or dim, I can press the screen lighter so I can see at any time. Even in the dark! And the unique body shape doesn't tend to hurt my hands if I play it for awhile.
So the new Game Boy has just gotten better. Kinda makes you think...what will Nintendo think of next?
Pros: Backlight, lightweight, foldable, built in rechargeable battery Cons: No car adapter
I really like the backlight. I bought my Advance two months before I discovered that the SP was coming out. I promptly sold my Advance when SP was released. I love SP. I can play in in the dark on long car rides and still be able to see. I also love the built in rechargeable battery. Where I work we have frequent down time and I've often been able to play for a couple hours a night and still have a bit of charge left come Friday. This item is definitely worth the money especially since it can play all the old Color games and the new advance games.
Pros: Lighting, the looks of the unit. Cons: Battery life, but I'll live.
Hey, my kids are happy, and that's the main thing! I have played with the units as well, and have found them to be very easy to use, and MUCH easier to see the game!
My 4 year old loves it. It keeps him busy while mom shops or during long drives. Can get plenty of cheap used games at local games stores. Very durable.
Pros: Fun to play, great battery life, great screen Cons: None
I saw this new style in the store and was really excited about trying it out. It has been absolutely perfect. I like the new layout and design. I find it to fit in my had perfectly. You can take it anywhere and the rechargable little unit provides over 5 hours of gameplay before needing a recharge. The backlight is great and the screen is bright and vivid in color. There are tons of games for this little unit and they really great games. I take it with me and find it difficult to ever get bored. You can buy games for it on ebay for really good prices! The games have an internal memory so you can continue your games where you left off etc. I have had mine now for about 2 months and I am still playing it. In fact, I play my gameboy SP more than I play my X-Box. I am 28 years old and in a professional career so I can tell you this unit is fun for kids of all ages!
Pros: The stylish design of the console Cons: No graphical improvements from the original Gameboy Advance
Oh my god! Those were my first words when I got my Gameboy SP. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Looking like a small laptop it was something I wasn't embarrassed to carry around with my while at work or in the park. Nintendo finally listened to the complaints about its originally Gameboy Advance and gave the consumers what they wanted. No more squinting at the screen now that it comes with a back light. No more changing batteries now that it comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 10 hours without the back light. My only complaint was that there were no head phone jacks but that's minor when you compared it to all the new additions that Nintendo made.
Pros: Good performance Cons: Made out of a thin cheap plastic that brakes very easily
Our 8 year old son had the pleasure to play with his new Game Boy Advanced SP for ONLY 16 days before it fell opened on the carpeted floor and broke into two pieces. As we picked it up and looked at it, we could not believe how cheaply it was made. He has accidentally dropped the other Game Boys so many times on harder surfaces (when he was much younger) and they are still working just fine. Why did this one, which is much more expensive, had to be so cheaply made?
We would like to suggest for them to lower the price on this specific product that are already on the shelves and improve the manufacturing of the ones that are being made.
For us it was $100 that went down the drain.
Game Boy Advance SP Console. by kiminay ,Nov 04 '03
Pros: It's easy to store, and is compatible with all game boy games. Cons: It drains battery power fast.
This Game system makes it easy for children to play their games in the dark, its easy to store, and it can be taken on any outing or any long car ride or for every day use.
Pros: Backlight, small, 18-hour battery, quality, graphics, available mods and accessories. Cons: Causes other systems to go out of business.
The Game Boy SP is everything I wanted. Other systems try to copy it, but they try to do to much and the Game Boy conquers it, just like the original did for 7 years in the early nineties. The folding design protects the screen and makes it much easier to keep in your pocket. The rechargeable battery last for 18 hours and recharges in only 6. The back light is awesome and lets me play in bed at night. For the people complaining about no headphone jack, an adaptor cost 50 cents and Nintendo offers a free mail-in GBA SP Headphone that comes within the next week. I love my GBA SP and it's worth way more than the asked $100. Also, don't worry about quality from Nintendo; my 1989 original Game Boy has lasted 14 years and is still running strong without any repairs. Also, my Nintendo 64 has run strong for 7 years. Nintendo is the best video game producer out there.
Game Boy just keeps getting better!! by sysonexay ,Sep 23 '03
Pros: Sleek design with back-lit screen to allow play in dim or no light. Cons: No headphone jack.
Nintendo has done it again, out-doing themselves in the handheld market that is. The Game Boy Advance SP is the latest upgrade to the Game Boy handheld system. With it's sleek, stream-lined design, it is a fitting make-over to the original Game Boy Advance. In full, 16-bit color, Game Boy games never looked so good. New features include a back-lit screen to play games without a secondary light source. Light is turned on by separate switch, which allows for extended battery use when light is off. Screen also flips up to resemble the original Game Boy model.
Although there is no headphone jack, a minor downside, it does come in four vibrant colors, including Platinum, Indigo, and the new Flame and Onyx colors. Kudos to Nintendo!
Pros: fun, game selection, compact, cool factor Cons: no headphone jack, kind of small to hold for long periods
My job requires that I spend a lot of time on airplanes, and I quickly discovered there are only so many times you can read the same Sky magazine. I needed a better time killer...the GBA is just that.
This is a great little gaming device. It's compact design with flip top lid makes it great to pack with you anywhere and it even fit in some shirt pockets. It also has a built in backlight so that you don't need to buy a clip on light or cut open your GBA to install an afterburner kit.
There is a very nice selection of games for all ages and they look great on the color screen. You can also play all GameBoy and GameBoy Color games on this system. It is very well designed, however it's a little smallish for adult hands and can cause cramps on extended playing sessions.
The only bad thing about this system is that there is no headphone jack. You have to buy an adapter that you can only get from Nintendo for about $9. Also, it plugs into the charger outlet, so you can't charge and listen to headphones at the same time.
Pros: No need to buy batteries, it rechargeable, better graphics, and the screen lights up. Cons: Having a regular GameBoy Advanced, it seems pointless to get the SP, It's not though
You can play all the new games.
It has a flip top, it's small, sleek and compact can fit in your back pocket, well it fits in my back pocket, anyway, it is really fun, and a lot of your favorite Playstation games or on the Game Boy SP, for example Crash Bandicoot, and Legend of Zelda. Really exciting...
I bought this truthfully because it was the new thing, but i definetley don't regret it. It's an awesome console. Any one will enjoy it, unless of course you live under a rock.
Pros: Much cooler looking, backlighting, no batteries, flip-design Cons: Still low quality games, No headphones, no batteries
Game Boy Advance SP (GBASP) is no huge improvement and seems to have been made to suck innocent people out of cash. The graphics and engine are exactly akin to that of the GBA, and you can still play GBC + GBA games. They will look the same.
Well, the good news is this version is much cooler to the eye, has backlighting, requires NO BATTERY POWER (just charging) and has a flip design to reduce screen vulnerability.
The bad news is the games still look crappy, there's no longer a headphones jack, and if the power goes out, you're screwed!
Anyway, I recommend you buy a normal game console instead of this still junky thing.
This is the third game... by raulm_dt3000 ,Mar 29 '03
This is the third game boy product I purchased for my son, and let me tell you the one thing that I never understood was how kids could play games w/o a light......What a difference now.......It is worth the price.
Well, what can you say? The GBA is excellent. But NO LIGHT. So they created this thing: and put in the BACKLIGHT so we can all SEE what the hell we are playing.
Does that constitute a double Price? hmmm...
Game Boy Advance SP is an awesome system for everyone. It runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (takes 3 hours to recharge) and it has 10 hours of gameplay with its built-in light on (18 with the light off.) The only bad thing is that, you have to buy a headphone adapter, because it doesn't have one! It has a sleek, but neat design for on the go! When the SP is folded up into a "mini laptop," it is about 1 inch thick and its length and width size is approximately 3" by 3". The great thing about this new system is that is compatable with all current GBA games and past GBC and GB games. And yes, it is compatable with the "e-reader" system, but the thing is, if you want to play animal crossing on your Gamecube, just plug the link-up cable into the back of the SP. TRUST ME! It will work. If you are planning on getting a new gameboy, the current GBA is great for all ages, but if your planning on getting the new GBA SP, I would have to say this is for teens and adults always on the go!
