Nitro 640 LX, A Good Bass Rig by fishingdoctor ,Jan 20 '07
Pros: Affordable Fiberglass Rig. Looks Good, Tows easy, Good with gas and Rides well. Cons: Limited Space, Limited Speed/Power with 50 h.p., Avg. Electronics, Limited Storage
I purchased my 640 LX almost 4 years ago and I've been pleasantly surprised, but I'm currently upgrading from the standard 50 h.p. to a 90 h.p. The boat has been easy to own and I routinely get complements on the "Look" of the boat. However if you are seriously considering purchasing this rig consider this:
If you or an avid bass angler who routinely fishes with two or more people in the boat you will find the space very limited.
With a full tank of gas, two men's fishing tackle, and the live-well on you will have difficulty getting on plane with the 50 hp. Top speed will be around 24 to 28 mph, depending on Weight. With the 90 HP I expect to eliminate all horse-power limitations, with a top speed around 45 to 50mph.
The trolling motor is great, the electronics are very "basic." Placing a good Lowrance unit on the Bow will help with that.
Otherwise - Good fishing.
Pros: Affordability, Fishing excellance, Compact Comfort, Ease of loading and unloading Cons: A larger motor would improve performance but very usable with the 50HP
After using this boat for several years I can truly say it is an overall great buy.Another reviewer states the 50HP as being underpowered and while I agree a 75 would be an improvement, the 50HP with 2 people in the boat runs at 33 MPH and planes quickly if the Live well is not full.Mileage for this craft is superb and fill ups are rare with its 20 + gallon capacity.
The Boat tows easily and it loads and unloads quickly and efficiently.
This is alot of Boat for the Money and I have never been sorry for purchasing it.
Perfect boat for the money by helicoperdave ,Dec 24 '03
Pros: Price, appearance, gets you out fishing. Cons: small with two people, need more than a 50hp, needs fishfinder mounted up front.
The Nitro 640LX has been great so far, I've had it for just about one year. Against the recommendation of the salesmen, I kept the standard 50hp mercruiser and did not upgrade it with more power. It does OK, but takes a LONG time to get up on plane and tops out at 24mph. It rides OK, the trolling motor is great, I put another depthfinder up front which has been a lifesaver because the factory sonar is a piece.
Great boat for the price, lot's of fun and gets you out on the water fishing. Just don't expect to hang out with skeeter / 225 VMAX crowd. I had to take it back to have the idle and start mixture adjusted, otherwise it has not had any problems. Easy to tow with my Silverado 1500.
Pros: Looks,Handeling,Towes Good Pulling It with An Chevy S-10 Cons: Hard to load Rods When Trolling Motor Is Not In the Water.
I Love The Boat ,Added A Hot Foot,Fish Finder On The Front, a lightspeed 24P x 13 1/4" Instead Of The 23P x 12" aluminum Prop That came with 90 elpro Merc.Top Speed Is still 54 MPH But I cruise At 40 MPH @ 4000 RPMS instead OF 35 MPH @ 4000 RPMS,It is Slower Out of The Hole,But less Engine RPMS. Pulling A Skier Requires A 23P x 12" Or less Prop.Best Boat for The Money.
