Pros: Plenty of features, large & comfortable seat, does the job! Cons: Strange issue with the pedal, there are better (though more pricey) ones out there
After an unpleasant visit to my doctor, I was faced with the news that I weighed more than I ever thought was possible. I dont look fat, but found myself pondering the options. What I settled on was a healthy diet and exercise. So, I suppose,...
Pros: None. Well, you can always use it to hang your wet laundry. Cons: It doesn't work on any resistance greater than 0. Tech Support Drones.
We bought this bike in June of '02 from Sears. Initially, the minimum tension was too high so that my wife was unable to use it. After a week or two of using it myself, the machine made a loud cracking noise, and lost ALL resistance. After calling the...
Pros: Easy to assemble (numerous times)
Excellent Nordic Track Customer Service
Cons: Never quite worked from day one
It was time to get everyone in shape. I wanted the elliptical, she wanted the bike. She won. We ended up with two Nordic Track devices: the Nordic Track Treadmill and the Bike.
The treadmill has been excellent, never failed once since the day we...
SL728 stay away from Nordic Track period!! by studlywildcat ,May 21 '07
Pros: Has a 3 speed fan, comfortable seat and back. Cons: Broke within weeks and more than once, bad customer service.
I purchased a SL728 in the middle of 2006. While reading the other reviews for the Nordic track bikes, it was like deja vu, all over again and again. I had the bike about 3 to 4 weeks when while pedaling there were some grinding noise with laps of tension. Eventually by the end of the week, it cracked loudly and no more tension. Called NT was appalled with there customer service, I asked the CS is this something that happens regularly with NT. I was told NO, I shouldn't expect this to happen again. I actually took the bike back to Sears and got a brand new one in return. Everything was great until, I started to see the familiar symptoms explained above. Then the loud crack and bike was down again. Luckily it was still under warranty!! Called the customer service #, and again was met by really cocky and unfriendly staff. The warranty just expired and I'm starting to here the familiar cracking and grinding while pedaling. I will never ever buy a Nordic track product again!! I would suggest you do the same.
Poor design continues with new models by professor42 ,Feb 19 '06
Pros: Smooth pedaling Cons: If you're in decent shape, the preset workouts are too easy.
Uncomfortable seat, though tolerable.
I own a NordicTrack SL 760 and am displeased with it. After 30 uses, the belt began rubbing against the steel on the inside of bike, grinding it down and rendering it useless. This also occurred with a Reebok brand bike that I had before this one, which is also manufactured by ICON Fitness. I didn't have any problems with customer service (I found them to be very helpful and cooperative) or receiving replacement parts as others did, but I do not recommend any exercise bikes manufactured by ICON Fitness since I had the same problem with two different brands and models.
Pros: Programmed Workouts, Stability, Durability, Comfort, Ease of use, Good workout Cons: Pulse monitor not quite correct, Calories burned can't be right.
I really like this exercise bike. I used to own a NordicTrack Challenger and loved that, but after a foot surgery to remove one of my joints, my balance isn't as good as it used to be. So, I found this bike by NordicTrack and as always, with NordicTrack, I find it to be a high quality machine. I ride it daily for 30 minutes and it "rocks!" Great stability, programs that are great and I don't have to think, just pick my program and off I go...oh yeah, don't forget, slip on the walkman to pass the time!
The only down side is the pulse rate monitor sometimes is a bit wacky, but everyone can tell when they're in "the zone." Just listen to your body.
Screwed again Nordic Track SL 528 by tri2sli ,Mar 20 '06
Pros: STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING ICON HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH. IT'S GARBAGE. Cons: JUNK, they'll beat you around the bush. Buy from another manufacture. Parts help non existent.
Nordic Track SL 528 This is to add to my previous problem with this bike. After my first adventure with the one that lasted 4 weeks and no replacement parts from Nordic Track for flywheel replacement Sears gave me a replacement new bike and it lasted 4 days before the same problem rose up with the flywheel. Nordic Track again has no replacement part available (even the one the tech first ordered 5 weeks ago for the bike I returned to Sears was not in) I was told by ICON manager over the phone he couldn't tell me when the part would become available and I said 2 months or more and got no response. I'm going to take the piece of crap back to Sears and get me a Schwinn model 113. I know ICON has nothing to do with this bike and Consumer reports give it a best buy.
I bought an exercise bike last year and it has never worked right. Apparently faulty bearings. The company outsources its so called "customer service" to ICON. You are completely unable to get anyone to talk to you right away. They always say they are giving you a number and they are going to call back (which could be in the middle of the night if you are EST). After about 3-4 weeks of phone tag (you can't even get them on the phone if you call back the number on the message they leave you) they say they'll send you a part and a tech will come (takes about another 3-4 weeks). Tech comes and replaces the part and about 1 week later that thing breaks again. So I went through the whole process again and of course a few weeks later it still doesn't work. This thing was $400 and it is junk and it is criminal what the company gets away with.
Pros: good piece of exercise equipment Cons: not built very well and some of the advanced features don't work well
I had the same experience as jreinhardt . The bike just free-wheeled no resistance. I had the repairman come out twice and it worked for a day or so each time. As I am pretty handy I took it apart and the problem that they thought was a flywheel was just a clip that kept the flywheel from drifting off line. Have been using it regularly for 2 years now. The bike is comfortable and the resistance works great. It only registers about 1/2 the calories you really burn. (Have checked it on other bikes for same mileage and resistance and also on a heart monitor chest strap.)It has heart rate monitors built into the handles but they only work sporadically. Its been a good exercise bike but I am getting a better one next time.
Pros: Great if you want a $400.00 disposable bike. Cons: Inferior bearings to say the least.
This is my second rip-off by the Nordic Track brand. I purchased an upright exercise bike #SL700 from Sears. It was defective when opened at home with a bent crank arm. It was replaced, though a hassle to load and return to the store. I used the second bike 6-7 times when the crank bearing assembly went. This time I made them pick it up and deliver a new bike. After a couple months the same bearing problem occurred. I thought this being a bad omen I would upgrade to the TRL625 for a bit more money. I should have cut my losses and switched to another brand. Now the "new" bike is doing the same all-too-familiar thing--the crank bearings are shot. A couple months out of warranty and there is nothing that NordicTrack will do for me. They want $220.00 for the crank bearing assembly. My advise.....STAY AWAY FROM THIS JUNK BRAND. What a sad testimony for an American company.
Do Not Buy From Nordictrack by rickn6900 ,Aug 02 '05
Pros: The model at the store was nice Cons: Nordictrack/Icon sports equipment customer service is very poor
I bought the bike in June from my local Sears, the model on display was nice and comfortable which is why I bought it. When I unpacked the bike I found the seatback bent and cracked rendering the bike unusable. Five weeks later I am still waiting for the replacement part and Nordictrack has it on backorder with no expected shipping date available. While the bike is nice (at least I think it is) the customer service at Nordictrack is for the most part non-existant. The customer service hours they list on the manual vary depending on call load so sometimes they answer and sometimes they do not. Great service huh? I would highly recommend finding a similar bike from another manufacturer with a better reputation.
Pros: Bike looks good and is sturdy. Cons: ICON's Customer service is horrible. They wont help in any way to make customers happy.
I actually have the SL 720. This bike cost approx. $700.00. The bike worked great for about 6 months then the pedal crank broke. They came to fix the problem as warrantied to fix the problem. Eight months later, the exact same thing. Only this time, the year warranty is gone. It will cost me $250 to fix it. Why so much? Well, you have to have a special tool to fix it. Guess what, that took cost $100. Again, not under any kind of warranty, this problem will probably happen again. ICON, the company that took over Nordic Track, will not do anything about it....Faulty equipment? I think so.
Awful product by ICON Fitness. Buyer beware of ICON by hockeymeat ,Mar 09 '05
Pros: NONE Cons: Poor design, poor customer service, Lack of accountability for bad quality.
The bike was purchased last April. ICON Fitness who owns NordicTrack and most other fitness names (Reebok,PRO-Form, Weider, etc) sent a product with no directions and wrong parts. The bike had to be sent back and then replaced. The replacement bike did not have all the parts. They finally set it up in around June. It broke after 3 weeks and ordered a replacement Reebok bike which I received in August. The bike broke again. I spent no less than 40-50 hours with this company and then was threatened by a law office for non-payment. The equipment never worked correct.
ICON fitness representative from the Office of the President, then informed me that they could do no more and would not support the product. I have 150 pound piece of garbage sitting in my bedroom that does not work due to poor design that ICON fails to fix. BAD BAD COMPANY that I suggest you never purchase anything because they do not back their products and then cancel warrenties that they issued without advising you.
Pros: The bike style looks good compared to others in the same price range. Cons: This product is of poor quality and will require a repairman within 3 weeks.
Well, I am unable to use this product because they can't ever get me the right parts. I bought the product to get some exercise. I loved the look of the product and the features but it is of very poor quality. After three weeks one pedal began to squeak and wouldn't stay tight so it was supposedly repaired but it still had the same problem. I ordered parts to repair it myself and it still continues to be a problem. I hate that I would spend money one something that only worked for three weeks.
Pros: Well designed, easy to use. Cons: Not made strong enough to handle repeated riding. Inferior materials used in crank assembly.
Bought a SL720 in 2005. I liked most of the features of the bike, although the heart rate monitor never worked properly. Used it mostly at low resistance levels just for a light work-out. Recently the crank assembly broke, and the pedals now turn with no resistance and just a loud cracking sound. From what I've seen on other forums, this defect seems to be common with this bike. I bought it from Sears and they quoted about $200 for the crank assembly and another 150 to 200 for the service tech. So we're looking at about $400 to fix the thing with no guarantee the problem won't happen again. Sears says there was no recall of this machine. I believe the crank assembly of these machines is simply not robust enough to withstand significant riding. Well designed maybe, but made of inferior materials. This one is going into the recycling bin.
