Pros: 3 Rings In Each Shaving Head, The Charging stand, Comes With A Carrying Pouch. Cons: None
I wanted to have this shaver ever since I I saw the commercial for it during a Super Bowl XL advertising break. There were more commercials for it on the NFL Network and knew the features by heart. For my 23rd birthday back in June, my mother bought ...
Pros: Long Battery Life, Adequate Shave. Cons: Overpriced -- not a good value.
I have been an electric shaver user for about 5 years. Recently I noticed the shave from my old shaver (for which I paid about $50)wasn't as close as I'd liked. The battery was beginning not to hold a full charge, I noticed a little rust and new heads ...
Pros: fast, smooth, close shave. amazing "rinse and clean." sensitivity setting, 3 blades per razor!!! Cons: not a perfect shave - may take a little time to get used to
Hello everyone. I've never reviewed a product here before, but saw there were no reviews on this shaver and had to tell the world about it. The 9160XL is a top-of-the-line Norelco shaver with not 1, not 2 but 3 rotating razors for each razor head. ...
Pros: smooth, comfortable shave
rinses under running water
long battery life Cons: price
charging stand
For me, this replaced an older model Norelco electric razor that i had for 10 years before the battery just stopped taking a charge. Based on my experience with my old Norelco, I was inclined to buy Norelco again and am glad I did. This razor ...
Pros: Offers the closest shave, price isn't bad compared with added features, pretty durable Cons: If you're not used to electric shavers, you may get irritated skin.
I've been a Norelco user for several years now. I have a thick beard, and am always looking for an electric razor that can give me the convenience of an electric, but also give me a close shave. When you figure that a Gillette razor with all those ...
Pros: Close shave; easily cleaned; three skin sensitivity settings; easy to charge; holds charge 17 days; Cons: None at the present time.
I've had the Philips Smart Touch 9160XL Electric Shaver for over a month now. The charge really does last 17 days. It has a very close shave and is very quiet. I switched from a Remington and am glad I did. With my previous shaver I many times ...
Pros: Shaving closeness, Quality construction, Operating time between charges, Ease of maintenance Cons: None so far.
I received this electric shaver as an end of year holiday gift on 25 November 2006. I have been quite pleased with the shaves that I get from it. My shaves are 90 to 95% as close as I would get with a blade with none of the irritation and skin abrasion ...
Pros: Quality, quietness, and quick! Cons: Price would have been a barrier if bought at full retail.
This is a shaver that is better than any I've ever used. I don't use blades as they irritate my skin. This shaver doesn't irritate my skin and shaves so closely that I don't have a five o clock shadow anymore. I used to shave every three to four days ...
Disappointed but giving it a chance by myohpinion ,Jan 06 '07
Pros: Quiet Cons: Not a close shave
I've used an electric razor for 15 years. I purchased the Smart Touch XL with the added Philips "Speed" option December 2006. It was the first triple head electric razor I've used in 3+ years. In the interim, I'd used a $25 single head Remington. The Remington actually had a much closer shave.
The differences between the two, other than the obvious price and aforementioned closer shave, the Smart Touch is quieter and is self-cleaning. Aggravatingly, it does not shave quicker than the Remington does. The Remington was a pain to clean and I had to replace the foils every 8-10 months. Hopefully I will get used to the lack of closeness and the blades will hold up better. If it doesn't, the cheap Remington is still running strong.
Quietest electric razor I've tried by earthplanet ,Dec 11 '06
Pros: Very quiet.
Works with the cord plugged in if the battery is low. Cons: Charger doesn't automatically shut off after finishing.
Charger Stand is difficult to place shaver in.
If you're looking for an unusually quiet, efficient electric razor, this is it. It's very effective on the neck area where the whiskers often grow in multiple directions. I've used foil razors in the past which typically aren't very good below in the neck area.
This type takes a little getting used to on the chin and jawline, but the three heads adjust pretty well to curved surfaces. This razor shaves pretty close without the skin irritation of many foil razors. I have a coarse beard and it seems to handle it fine.
The charger doesn't automatically shut off. The owner's guide says to not leave it plugged in after it finishes charging, so you have to remember to unplug it after about four hours. They aren't clear on whether it's OK to leave it plugged in overnight.
The charger stand is very difficult to place the shaver in. I stopped using it and just leave the shaver on it's back. I'll plug the cord directly into the shaver whenever it needs charging.
Head design can cause problems by turkeyman1 ,Feb 25 '07
Pros: Good close shave, easy to use, very portable. Cons: Design and part quality can leave you with a growing beard.
This razor gives a close shave and has many good features. The problem lies in the shaving head design. Head latch is plastic and can release when shaking excess water from unit. In my case the complete shaving head flew into sink breaking the fragile plastic inner parts.Retail price is $179.00. A little more aluminum and a little less plastic would increase this razors durability. There also seems to be a discrepancy in whether or not the blades and cones can be interchanged. My booklet states "no", phillip's agent says no problem?? Good shave but less than two months of use and I am waiting for repair parts.
Pros: For a super quiet and comfortable shave you have to try this one. Cons: I personally have not found anything about the razor I don't like.
I owned a Norelco many years ago but for the last ten or twelve years I have been using a competitors electric razor. I decided to give Norelco another chance after seeing the new 9160XL advertised on television.
I waited for approximately two weeks and eventually found one and purchased it. I have been using it for three weeks now and it beats my old razor hands down. When I first charged it up and turned it on I thought something was wrong because it was so quiet.
The razor gives me a quick close shave and cleaning it is a breeze. Just wash it out with hot water and let it air dry. Once the battery is fully charged it lasts for several days before needing to be recharged.
I recommend you read the owners manual especially about the care and cleaning.
I highly recommend trying it because if you don't like it the manufacturer will replace it with no questions.
Pros: Feels sturdy and seems well built. Cons: As with all electric shavers, replacement heads are too costly!
Super nice shaver BUT you will need to get used to this one. It shaves closer then it "feels" so if you already are used to an electric shaver you may tend to press harder against your face. You don't need to though! The heads float against your face and deliver and clean smooth shave without added pressure.
I've been needing a new razor for quite a while, as my old Norelco 484 just wasn't cutting it anymore. I decided to try the "best" foil shaver in the Braun 360 Complete (8975), but it just didn't give a close shave. If I had used it more than two days, maybe my face would have gotten used to the switch from rotary to foil, but I was impatient enough to take it back and get the Norelco 9160XL.
I couldn't be happier with the closeness of shave, the extremely quiet operation ("Is this thing on?") and the speed at which it works. This products is highly recommended.
Pros: Cordless, waterproof, very close shave, good fit in hand Cons: Pricey
I had an old Norelco 905RX which I've replaced the batteries three times over the years. It finally died, and I replaced it with the SmartTouch 9160XL.
The new technology incorporated in this razor is amazing. I shaved with it, and except for using a blade, I had never gotten as close a shave as with this razor. I couldn't feel any stubble which I had experienced with the old razor.
Cleaning is a breeze, just hold it under a hot water faucet for a few seconds.
If you are used to using a blade, you need to give this razer a good three week trial.
