It doesn't stay put
by hstutch ,Jun 07 '05
Pros: Comfortable Cons: Inconvenient in the mornings
I bought the memory foam topper for my bed at home, and the mattress for our RV. Both are really comfortable to sleep on, but the topper doesn't stay put on the old standard mattress. In the morning, it has moved up to the head of the bed and there is a big gap at the foot - I am constantly having to pull up the fitted sheet, pull the topper back into place, and struggle with the fitted sheet again. I've tried it on both sides of the cover, with a traditional mattress pad between the original mattress and the topper, I've even tried those rubbery pads you put under throw rugs to keep them in place on a floor - nothing works. And it's not like we're doing aerobics on the bed every night - we're quite still sleepers. I wake up rested, and then get irritated wrestling the stupid thing back into place. If you hate remaking your bed from scratch every morning - I wouldn't recommend this.

I'm surprised at all the bad reviews!!
by suzysurfs ,Jan 21 '07
Pros: the best affordable quick fix to a crappy mattress. Cons: absolute none!!
i purchased the 2 inch topper about 3 years ago at costco after moving to a new city. With the cost of the move I was really low on cash and inherited a rock hard (seriously!) cheap mattress my mom bought. I have a bad back and need a firm mattress but this mattress was unbearable. I was better off on the floor. So i ran out and bought the topper, came home and ripped it open. The directions told me to let it air out (i think overnight) but i was too impatient. It expanded quite fine and I slept on it that night. Okay, so the smell wasn't that great since I didn't air it out but it subsided after a few days. I've been happy with it since and it's been 3 years. I still happily sleep on the crappy mattress thanks to the nova foam topper.
Oh, I also have a thin quilted cover over the topper and mattress and then I have the sheets over that. my friends are suprised when i tell they're not sleeping on an $800 mattress when they come to visit. they love it as much as i do.

NOVAFORM IS NOT THE NORM!!!
by phyllis2006 ,Jan 27 '06
Pros: Center expands real fast! Comfortable to lay on. Cons: The darn ends won't inflate!!!
Just wanted to contribute my opinion. I initially responded to the review titled "Under the Christmas Tree".
Today, I returned my Novaform Topper at Costco as a result of the ends not expanding! I exchanged it for another one. Within minutes of taking it out of the package 75% of it expanded! (the other one was slower!) However, the ends are still having a difficult time for they were the most compacted!
I am going to give this one a few days just as I did the last one but my gut tells me that I am going to have the same problem as I did with the last one! Too bad because when I laid on top of it, it felt amazing!! Even on my living room floor where it sat for nearly one week!
***When I made my return at Costco today, the lady told me that they are getting at least one return per day!! That is pretty high if you ask me!!

Novaform topper, The memory foam Con!
by jiggapimp420 ,Nov 28 '04
Pros: The mattress works good the first few days. Cons: Gradually becomes less viscoelastic, overpriced, and of poor quality!
I have had my novaform topper for about two weeks now. It is 2 inches thick. At first it was very soft and conformed to my body very well. Over time it became more stiff and the matress would not conform and would spring back into shape really fast. It is now acting more like a normal foam topper. When my wife sleeps in the middle of the bed, the whole thing dips down pulling me towards the middle of the bed.
I have not been getting good sleep like I did when I first got it, and now I wake up frequently from discomfort. The foam does not keep the shape of my hand anymore, like on the commercials. It just springs back into shape. I would not recomend this topper to anyone!
For what the topper cost, there are far better memory foam toppers out there for the same price, if not cheaper!

Avoid memory foam mattress toppers.
by linuxlund ,May 12 '05
Pros: Use it to sleep on the floor when you have relatives over. Cons: Develops a pit. Difficult to move around on, irritating.
I bought the two inch thick NovaForm memory foam mattress topper. It's just foam. That's ok because I wanted a soft topping mattress on my new firm hard queen size Sealy Posturepedic. This combination is very good. I wish all could have a bed as nice as mine. But you need a bed pad topping to make space between you and the plastic foam so you don't sweat. I'm feeling sleepy thinking of my bed. Zzzzzzzzzz...........
Correction, 6 months later. I had to remove the mattress topper because it developed a pit which I kept rolling into. The entire mattress was swampy in the way that it's difficult to change sleeping position on it, I awoke feeling stuck repeatedly. After I removed it my firm flat bed was so much better. A firm bed is nothing to be afraid of, apparently.

Novaform has MOLDED from moisture
by picturegeek ,Apr 27 '06
Pros: Comfort Cons: Absorbs moisture, holds dampness and develops mold!
After searching I can't seem to find anyone who has had problems with their Novaform growing mold besides me. I had to throw one away it was so overcome with mold. I live in San Francisco, a damp climate and often sweat at night. The topper lies above an air mattress made of plastic. Perhaps the inability of the air mattress to absorb ambient moisture causes mold build-up. Before throwing away the topper I bought a mattress cover made to protect mattresses from bed wetting. It provides a barrier from my sweat, but the topper still sucked enough moisture from the air to cause mold. As if this wasn't enough, to lower the moisture reaching the memory foam, I bought a dehumidifier. Still the topper was damp and molded. I am not happy. Is there no plastic cover that will surround the memory foam topper? I liked it before it molded. Am I the ONLY person with this problem?

Too HOT for me but the Quality is great & a good price.
by hottamalie ,Nov 18 '09
Pros: High quality product & Good price. Cold-natured? Perfect for you. Cons: If you are hot-natured, keep looking!
This is a great topper to melt into but after two hours on it, I started to melt and I kept getting up to try and cool down. That made for a lousy night's sleep. Other than that, this is a reat topper! Super squishy and moves with you - not like tempurpedic. I bought this to go on top of the Tempurpedic I purchased last month. The tempurpedic is too hard. Look at the density as well as the inches.

I love my memory foam topper from Costco
by jwinarl ,Sep 12 '07
Pros: Inexpensive plus great comfort Cons: They do tend to slip a bit
I bought mine for less than $100 about 4 years ago. It turned a firm mattress into supreme comfort. So this way I have the support below and the comfort of less pressure. It is still in wonderful condition as I use an allergy barrier mattress pad over it. This also helps to keep it from slipping. It is more economical and better than the $1,000 pillow top my ex husband bought. He ended up adding a memory foam topper after 6 years as the pillow top was compressing so much.
Now I spend many nights with my boyfriend and his mattress is firm. I am waking up sore so I am going to buy him a memory foam topper too.

Novaform Choices Mattress Topper
by ellenmarcy ,Oct 24 '07
Pros: A cover that zips easily over the foam. The directions are clear. Cons: This product emits a strong chemical odor- one that has not faded in three days.
I just purchased a Novaform Choices Topper from COSTCO. It fluffs up fine to its 2.5 inches in just 24 hours from the vacuum packaging. However, I am at day three and I have had to sleep in the second bedroom because the chemical smell from the mattress is so prevalent that I can't sleep in my own bed. I have the foam cover unzipped so that the foam can air out and the windows open. A note on the carton says that the scent will fade- but when and in how long.
I don't think the trade off of inhaling this odor is worth the softness of the topper. I am giving it another day of airing- but have contacted COSTCO about how to return this item, as it no longer fits into the vacuum packaging.
I purchased a pillow as well- and this has the same chemical smell problem.

IF they expand, they work well
by maggierose ,Apr 14 '06
Pros: The replacement mattress my parents purchased works fine. Cons: Something is wrong with some batches and they stay flat/creased.
My parents purchased a Queen sized one for me at Cosco for Xmas and it NEVER expanded fully after I brought it home to PA. The original fold creases are still in the mattress, the edges are still flat, and also discolored a beige/yellow.
And don't buy it from Cosco unless you live close, because you have to actually return the now MASS of mattress to the store for a refund, even if it's over a 5 hour drive.

Ripoff!
by rockit69 ,May 07 '06
Pros: uhhh? Cons: Does not work as described
I bought this overgrown waste of space over a week ago and only 5% of it has expanded to its supposed 2-1/2" thickness. Now I have to wrestle this beast back to a crowded store to return it. I'm amazed Costco would sell such a problematic item.........

EXPANDABLE???
by dcreasy2001 ,Jan 05 '06
Pros: the BIG BOX looked nice under the Christmas tree! Cons: I'm still waiting for it to open up!!!
Okay, someone help me here, is it supposed to take 3 weeks for this ALBATROSS to decompress? I bought it for my wife as a Christmas gift hoping we could slap it on our bed and get a really good night sleep Christmas night. OH NO, after I opened up the box, it states that it will take "up to" 72 hours to fully decompress. It is now closing in on 3 weeks and it is still HALF WAY DONE! It has taken up so much space in our spare room I'm going to send a bill to Novaform for storage fees! I would really like to enjoy this thing, I'll let you know if it ever reaches full capacity and THEN I'll give a review. PLEASE, if anyone has had the same problem with decompression time, let me know, I haven't given up hope yet, but it's really getting "FITFULL" just waiting!

Wish I had read the reviews before buying Novaform
by bombe12 ,May 28 '06
Pros: Competitive price and the odor is not as nasty as expected. Cons: Difficult to unfold from box without ripping and DOES NOT DECOMPRESS!
I am yet another dissatisfied purchaser of the queen size Novaform topper. I had been told by several friends that it was great, good price at Costco, so off we went to get one.
We followed the unpacking directions exactly, and left it to decompress. I can tell that it will NEVER fully expand, as the ends are completely smashed down and there are three areas in the center that remain humped like a camel.
I'm glad I found this epinions.com page, and I recommend that consumers take a look at other peoples' experiences before purchasing these toppers. I wish I had!

My NovaFoam Mattress is moldy
by granddowager ,Sep 22 '06
Pros: Very comfortable, warm, sleep. Cons: It is getting moldy in one spot.
In response to Picturegeek, in San Francisco.
I purchased my NovaFoam mattress topper from Costco. I have it on an air mattress, also. The beauty of an air mattress is one's ability to adjust the firmness and the ease of replacement. I am going to try the air mattress that has the pillow top with a mattress pad to see if the moisture is absorbed. I am also turning the topper over every two weeks. Great work out for the upper arms and abs.
I live in Aptos, CA right on the coast and it is very foggy here. My mattress is getting moldy in one spot. Before I return it, I will see if a day in the sun will help get rid of the mold.
Does anyone have any ideas that could help?
Thanks

Novafoam a bad choice
by aucky ,Jun 12 '08
Pros: Small shipping box. Affordable, compared with the superior Tempurpedic product Cons: Doesn't expand to 3". Rips upon unfolding. Chemical smell can be overwhelming.
I purchased a 3" Novafoam topper from Cosco to put on a rather firm Serta mattress (also from Cosco). The topper comes sealed in a vacuum pack and mine was very hard to unfold without tearing. I let it sit on my bed for 3 days and the pad barely swelled to 1 inch thickness. Parts of it didn't swell up at all. Also the smell from this thing was horrible. I tried sleeping on it but the smell gave me a headache. Anyway, there ARE better memory foam products out there (it's hard to beat Tempurpedic at their game).
