Pros: They are lovely, unique and practical to use. Cons: Slight film in spots after using the dishwasher.
Once a year, at Christmas, I get an offer that I cant refuse. The offer is one that I look forward to and enjoy immensely. The offer is to get myself anything I want ($100.00 maximum) just because I want it and not because I need it. The offer comes ...

Pros: Style, color and convenient sizes Cons: Quality issues: Color variations, pin holes, hazing and continual breakage
I agree...My Sango Nova Green are beautiful- When they are right out of the box that is. I was able to let go the fact that they each piece seems to have a different color or intensity of color. I tried to look at like these are handmade and ...

Keeps Breaking
by annapest ,Dec 08 '06
Pros: dishwasher safe
can purchase matching service pieces Cons: constant unexplainable breakage
Initially, I loved my nova green set of plates, bowls & mugs. I enjoy the differences in the glazes as being sort of artisan-esque without having to pay those sorts of prices, and the depth of the variations made them go well with a few different sets of placemats & tablecloths. I was very satisfied with my purchase.
Then, they started breaking.
The first mug I broke, I poured some lukewarm creamer in the bottom of a mug before I poured hot coffee over it, so I figured it was my fault, although I'd taken courses in ceramics which said that stoneware is far more forgiving to this sort of treatment than many other materials. The bowls and plates have yet to crack, but out of 12 mugs, I have 7 left, after just over a year of use. After the first, I was quite careful about putting in anything too hot, and it kept happening. I don't really know why their product is so shoddy, but I'm switching patterns as soon as I get down to 4 mugs.

I agree with other reviews about breakage.
by bv6519 ,Mar 17 '07
Pros: I love the look and color. I love the idea of dishwasher and microwave safe. Cons: After dishwasher use tend to look cloudy. Breakage is a big negative for me.
I received a set of 8 place settings Nova Green dishes as a gift from my Mother. The color was a perfect match to my kitchen. I am glad to see other reviews sharing info about breakage. I thought maybe it was just me being careless?
I am now down to 2 dinner plates and 3 mugs from a set of 8. My set is very sensitive to any hot (no semi-hot) liquids. I am now shopping on line for replacements but hesitate the investment because I have to think about the usage and potential breakage. I'm sure I'll probably order replacements so I can salvage what I have to date but do not think I would invest in Sango again for this reason. Too bad because I do like the look.

Such a pity
by dryheat ,Aug 02 '06
Pros: Beautiful color and beautifully simple design. Cons: Poor glaze and color uniformity.
I absolutely agree with sloughme's review. I just purchased two boxes of Nova Black at Bed, Bath and Beyond and both boxes were filled with flawed dishes. The glazes had tiny pin sized pits, the color was uneven. The sets are a bargain, and the store display was beautiful, but in the end it seems I got the quality I paid for. ($140 for 8 sets of dishes is an absolute steal, but not if the glaze fails a year from now because of poor workmanship.)

Sango Nova Black purchase
by sloughme ,Sep 18 '05
Pros: Beautiful set if you can find a box which isn't flawed. Cons: Poor quality and workmanship.
I purchased three sets of Nova Black by Sango, they are similar to the Nova Green except for the obvious. The dish set I saw on display was beautiful and flawless. I purchased my sets from Macy's. I had to take them all back. Each piece was heavily flawed. Sharp bubbles, inconsistancy in colors, i.e. one plate would be dark and the next would be light. Dents in the product, contaminated glaze, i.e. dents in the stoneware and brown glaze brush marks on some cups. Some of the plates were so different I wondered if someone was playing a joke on me. Poor quality control and/or poor glazes. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I would still buy this product if I was guaranteed I wouldn't get what looked like seconds. I have purchased many dish sets and none of them were flawed like these.

BIG issues with this product! Please read on...
by sbelej ,Apr 07 '05
Pros: Looks good, good price, availability is no problem for an entire set. Cons: JUNK! Plates will crack down the middle, and handles on the mugs will fall off.
Wow. Beautiful, functional, and affordable. And junk! I knew there was an issue when I started having plates for no reason just start cracking right across the middle. I've had handles fall off of mugs, one mug leaks! After reading the reviews here, sure enough I am not the only one. An international company, there is NO customer service, no support, nothing. I highly suggest NOT purchasing this product. I feel like I've been totally ripped off. I had to buy another set to replace all the broken pieces I had. Sadly I bought this set to replace my old Mikasa set from the 80's. When I'm down to service for 3 I'm going back to Mikasa.

Plates are cracking and breaking down the middle
by monique922 ,Apr 02 '08
Pros: Nice color Cons: Constant cracking and breaking of dinner plates
I bought the entire set of this pattern for my wedding in 2003. This included 12 dinner plates. And now, 5 years later, I'm down to 8 dinner plates. 4 have cracked in half & broke and 3 more have cracks and are on the verge of breaking.
7 out of 12 plates is not an accident! There is something wrong with these plates. We use them in the dishwasher, microwave and oven on low or warm. Maybe I'll stop putting them in the oven? Who knows!
My parents got different plates for their wedding in 1969 and I remember them still being around 30+ years later. I don't think they make things the way they used to.

Sango Nova Black - Poor Quality
by shlinky ,May 07 '08
Pros: Beautiful inviting colors Cons: Irregular color variations and irregular sizes; excessive breakage and cracks in the finish
I walked into Macy's and fell in love with the display of Sango Nova Black dinnerware. I purchased the first set and began to purchase other pieces to match (casserole dish, au gratin dish, etc.) The second set of dinnerware purchased were irregular in size, had many flaws and color variations. Then the first "microwave safe" dish broke in the microwave, the "ovenproof" casserole dish broke with just a warm water hand wash. There are multiple cracks in the finish of multiple pieces. I am very dissatisfied with my beloved dinnerware. Furthermore, I cannot find the address and/or phone number to write for a replacement...
