Pros: Sharp, safe, easy to clean. Easy to order replacement parts if necessary. Cons: Bulky, hard to store
As I slid five large russet potatoes across my OXO Mandoline to produce what seemed like a thousand one-eighth of an inch slices for Potatoes Au Gratin the other day, I marveled at its design. Just a week before, I watched a more ...
Pros: Slice & julienne like a professional chef! Great results! Cons: Large pieces of food remain under the food holder
after it is processed. No warranty.
WHY THE OXO GOOD GRIPS MANDOLINE SLICER? I was looking for a mandoline for quite some time now. I thought seriously about getting the French mandoline that can be bought from Chef's Catalog, you know, the true durable all-stainless-steel model quite ...
Pros: This mandoline makes quick work of the routine slicing of lettuce, onions, potatoes, etc. Cons: It takes some practice to learn the proper slicing technique for professional looking results.
I bought my OXO Mandoline Slicer at the end of 2004. I wanted a mandoline to help me cut perfect slices of fruits and vegetables and to julienne vegetables. This model looked like an affordable alternative to the classic stainless steel mandolines. I ...
Pros: Looks good. Cons: Dull blades.
Difficult to figure out.
This mandoline doesn't cut it.
I wanted to like this because it's OXO and I'm so pleased with my other OXO products. It may feel like an IQ test trying to figure this thing out. The slider parts of the body can be popped up using the "OXO" logo on the top of the handle. Pull the ...
Pros: Extremely safe, fast, comfortable, easy to clean, fun, huge time saver Cons: More expensive than most, but worth every penny
I love this device! I went to a cooking class a few years back, and they used a mandoline to slice up some onions almost paper thin. Needless to say, I was both impressed and scared. A mandoline is basically a razor for fruits, vegetables, and ...
Pros: cleanly sliced food items, quick and easy to use Cons: no storage container
After taking 15 mins to evenly slice 8 potatoes for scalloped potatoes I drove over to Bed Bath & Beyond after dinner, looking for an easier way to accomplish that slicing. After having used and LOVED the OXO potato peeler I figured I'd give the OXO ...
Pros: Looks Great!! Cons: Pusher design forces you to waste a lot of produce.
I had originally bought the De Buyer Professional Mandoline from Williams Sonoma (for a lot more money than the OXO) but decided to return it and get the OXO since I had great experiences with OXO products. This time was not one of those great ...
I hate slicing cheese, so this product is wonderful. You slide the chunk of cheese back and forth and it slices up pretty uniformly, depending on the hardness of the cheese. Softer cheeses don't work so well, nor do ripe tomatoes. They squish rather than slice. But this works well for potatoes, yams, Japanese radish, raw squash, and cabbage. P
Pros: Easy to store, makes quick work of thin slices Cons: Does not do anything else (except thin slicing)that it claims to.
I spent alot of money on this product, hoping that it would be worth it. However, I have not been able to use it for anything that I wanted to. I had to push so ferociously on anything that I was trying to julienne that I was afraid I was going to chop off a couple fingers. I thought that I may be doing something wrong... but what is there to screw up? You push the veggie toward the blade and it is supposed to do what it says it will...
The blade is a poor design. Instead of being straight across, it should be slanted or in a V. I have brought back my little contraption and am waiting to see whether I will have my money refunded (as they are contacting the OXO rep).
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! I have seen more than one bad review.
Pros: It's OXO Cons: It's basically useless unless you are making scalloped potatoes.
I was thrilled to see OXO had designed a mandoline. But I'm going to send it back and get a real mandoline - and a chainlink glove. This contraption does not live up to OXO's good rep. It is weak, it comes with conflicting info ("dishwasher safe" "handwash" - julienned carrots are shown, but it can't do carrots - peppers are too soft for it), the dial keeps moving.
Pros: Looks nice Cons: Doesn't work and is quite dangerous due to many exposed, sharp blades.
My wife bought one of these things a few days ago and couldn't get it to grate some small cukes or green peppers. We fiddled with it for 20 minutes and gave up. I also noticed that the thing looked quite dangerous. Today, I heard a yell from the kitchen and when I got there, she was wanting me to quickly get her some Bandaids for the cuts she'd just gotten from the %$#@ thing. I asked her if she was now willing to admit that she had been ripped off and, for her own safety, to let me throw it away? She agreed and the thing is now in our trash.
Caveat Emptor!! Avoid this product!! by conwaytitty ,Apr 23 '06
Pros: Very easy to clean. Great design. Cons: Half-dull main blades, horrible julienne blades, worthless
After several failed attempts to slice a bounty of vegetables hard and soft, the only thing I was able to successfully slice was a potato, and not well, mind you. Don't even think about attempting celery root or tomatoes. Additionally, the julienne blades are useless. I can recommend the product for only two reasons: It's very easy to clean and I like the design. But it doesn't slice vegetables, which is its, you know, raison d'etre.
As I usually do, I did as much research on this piece until I got a headache. I had the Borner V-Slicer in my hand and headed for cashier. As I waited on the checkout line, I decided to do my own thing and go against the opinions on epinions because the Borner just looked cheap. I went back and picked up the OXO Mandoline and decided to give it a shot. When I arrived home, I sliced two potatoes, two onions, and two bell peppers and never even opened up the instruction booklet. There is a small piece of clear tape over the blade that is hard to see. It is possible for someone to run a vegetable over it and think that the blade is not sharp.
Pros: The only pro is that it is made by OXO Cons: Just about everything else.
I was really disappointed with this machine. OXO normally makes good products so I did not think twice before buying it. I live in Paris -France and the machine here costs over 100 Euros (Aprox $130) but because of my prior experience with OXO machines I went ahead and bought it......what a mess!! I am a fairly experienced cook and have used similar machines before but this one gets the cake for being simply stupid! The blades are not sharp enough, the blades should be v shaped or at least slanted, the julienne blades are simply useless . I wasted half of my carrots trying to julienne them. I have never before written a review on line but I am so mad I had to do this. Believe me , DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE! Peace to all
