Pros: Great image quality, inexpensive, large 1920x1200 screen. Cons: No HDCP, stand not very adjustable
I bought this monitor as an upgrade to a low-end 17" LCD monitor I was using for 3 years. I purchased this in November 2007, and I've been using it heavily ever since, so I think I can make a good assessment of the monitor. Image Quality If ...
Pros: Pros: Versatile, nice looking low glare screen, good price Cons: Cons: Ergonomic issues, weak 1W sound, no wall mounting
For the sale price of 25% off MSRP, this monitor by an established manufacturer of mainboards is a good value. As should most any contemporary monitor, it syncs to every signal I have attached to it and the appearance is everything I expected: plenty of ...
Pros: Beautiful screen. Very light. It tilts. 24" 1920x1200 true 1080p!!! Cons: Speakers=junk. 1 year warranty. Occasional buzz sound. Junky VGA+DVI cables. Confusing controls. No rotation.
I bought this on black friday (Nov07) and have been pleased with it since day 1. It has a beautiful screen. It really is something to marvel at especially if its your first time with a widescreen on a desktop. Ive had widescreen laptops, but ...
Pros: Cheap, very good IQ and view angles, low glare, DVI, 24", 1900x1200 resolution Cons: No HDCP, flimsy, only VGA/DVI inputs, no backlight adjustment, suspect durability, lowsy speakers
Updated 3/3/08: Still have it and it still works fine -;). No additional hot pixels have developed. I have also been very pleased with the uniformity of the image - my previous Samsung 17" 172N LCD or current NEC 1970NX (with a *very* good in terms of ...
Very Nice Monitor When It Was Working by bdviets ,Apr 05 '08
Pros: Bright, good contrast, no dead pixles Cons: Unfortunately, it died after being on a day.
After reviewing many sites I found the 6ms model at a Office Max. The 3ms model apparently has an inferior lcd panel. The monitor is flimsy and has cheap plastics and speakers, but it did have a really nice display for about a day. Then it always indicated that there was no video present (hooked up to HDMI) No matter wether I rebooted the computer or re-powered the monitor, it always indicated no signal. I even reattached the HDMI cable. So back to the store it goes as a dead monitor.
Office Max - Soyo 24" Topaz S Monitor by williamrobert ,Dec 08 '07
Pros: One year warranty. Built in speakers below the LCD. Front power LEDs and switch. Cons: Volume and other controls are on the side. The stand does not tilt or swivel.
It includes power and both DVI and VGA cables and has a 1000:1 contrast ratio. I have it set at the defaults of 50% brightness and contrast which is both more clear and brighter than the 21" Gateway 2000 Vivitron (Sony) tube monitor sitting next to it. It would be nice if it had USB connectors and the stand weren't so basic. My stand does not tilt, although I see another reviewer said it did. I just tried again (I don't think mine does). The stand is fixed not adjustments.
I'm not comparing them side by side but the LCD seems comparable to my Dell at work and the SOYO is much less expensive, ~$250 after applying a coupon on Black Friday. The Dell has a USB hub and the stand is much nicer.
I am using 2 of these next to each other, both set at the native 1920x1200. I find the volume and other controls on the side inconvenient although I really haven't had a need to use them (other than the volume).
Pros: Looked nice when it worked for all of 12 hours. Cons: SOYO is a horrid company who sells broken items as refurbished.
I bought this monitor from an online retailer as refurbished for $199. I understand the risks with refurbished products, but they should at least be reconditioned to working order. Well, it worked for one day then broke. It would not remain on at all, so I had to send it back to the retailer and I was out $$ for shipping costs.
Soyo sells these units to retailers as REFURBISHED when they are BROKEN. Period. Many others I know bought these same monitors and many had black lines on the screen, tons of dead pixels, cracks, etc... No excuse for this, they sold BROKEN items as REFURBISHED to these retailers who sold to us.
