Best canoe for hardcore tripping

by thepasman , Jun 20 '04
Pros: Heavy duty boat,Takes large payload,Indestructable,Good manoverability in rapids,Rides up the standing waves,
Cons: NO SPRAY SKIRT AVALIABLE, Molded seats, Heavy Portager, Gets blowen around in the wind
This canoe can take it all! I've had one for 13yrs and have taken it on a major canoe trip every year. Also to the hunting camp and summer cabin. The canoe literally is indestructable I've seen them wrapped around rocks where i've thought that it's life ...

Big Ol' Canoe Performs

by tobydude , Jan 05 '03
Pros: lots of room for gear, responsive to paddle, and best of all...fun!
Cons: heavy to portage, love/hate relationship with molded seats
The Tripper is a BIG boat. It is long, wide, and deep. As a big paddler, I appreciate the fact that two big guys can pile in enough gear for a 6 day camping trip and still have plenty of space for the paddlers. And all of this without even coming...

Best for the Money

by LeopoldBloom32 , Apr 16 '00
Pros: lightweight, durable, stable
Cons: more expensive than most
I purchased the Tripper because I spent several summers working as a canoe instructor as was very impressed with the punishment that the company's ten Trippers took. All Royalex canoes are wonderfully durable, and all Old Town canoes are exceptionally...

River runner

by bear1 , Dec 17 '99
Pros: Big canoe, lots of room
Cons: a bit heavy on a long portage, drifts a bit on a lake.
I got this canoe because I enjoy canoe camping and running white water. Another consideration was that I tip the scales at close to 300 lbs. This canoe handles extremely well in white water, it side slips easily. I have also used this canoe on lake...

Pleasure Tripper
by plesuretripper ,Mar 07 '05
Pros: Does it ALL
Cons: Pig to Portage
I have taken my tripper on lots of adventures and have put it through the ringer. It has held up well and when it buckled on one trip I just stomped it back into shape and haven't had any problems since.
I bought this Tripper because it does exactly what it was designed for. It holds everything my partner and I need for an excellent 6-10 day trip and handles well when loaded. I bought a sprayskirt for my Tripper at the Old Town Factory Store and installed it and it is absolutely wonderful. It keeps my gear dry in the rain and when running rapids The only problem I have with the Tripper is it is a heavy boat to hog over a long portage.
