Pros: Low price, nice colors, sharpness and resolution, features, ease of use Cons: Uses xD-Picture cards, no AF assist illuminator, noisy ISO 400

Cheap to buy, but worth every nickle I saved to buy this Olympus Camedia D-595. I got it at Target for $169 and am so pleased to have an easy to use, entry-level camera that didn't require weeks of study like the Nikon D100 SLR digital that I use for ...

Pros: Compact, great pictures, fast flash recharge time, fast shutter speed. Cons: none
I picked one of these up from Olympus' ebay store. It was refurbished with a 90 day Olympus warranty. It looks brand new! It shipped to Canada with no surprise duty charges or brokerage fees for $6usd! The Camera is great! Automatic mode gets the ...
Pros: Picture quality, speed, features, compactness, zoom ability, movie feature! LOve the movie feature. Cons: Battery consumption. Usually have to replace batt after 100 photos taken with flash.
We bought this camera since the one we really wanted was not available any longer. We LOVE this camera. At first, we didn't think the MOVIE feature was necessary but have found that having the ability to film something on the spot is so much more convenient when you have the option available to you. For instance, we've had to use it when documenting construction problems on our house. Or even be able to switch from taking pictures of our friends and family and film a little snippet to capture something funny or bizarre! It's a lot of fun. Besides, who wants to lug a camera and a video around. The picture quality is amazing. The different settings allow you to take a myriad of types of pictures (night time, day, portrait, landscape, etc...)
great camera for the price by milk00000 ,Jul 22 '05
Pros: Easy to use and gives fine pictures even for someone not a pro Cons: Only con is I wish it had more optical zoom, the only con
I was looking for a camera to take pictures of the grandboys. Well I surely haven't been disappointed with the d595. The pictures are clear and sharp. I have had my camera for about 2 months, and would have no trouble recommending a d595 to anyone wanting an easy to use digital that gives very good pictures.
great ebay camera for the rest of us! by jckgri ,Jul 15 '05
Pros: easy to use; great shots for ebay and thru windows Cons: haven't found any the first week
I bought this camera last week thinking it would just give me a megapixel upgrade from my excellent 2Mpix D-520. It is much more than I expected at a lower cost. I especially like the available light function which I use to photograph ebay listing in my homemade full spectrum photobooth. With a cheap tripod EVERYTHING turns out right! No out of focus and little or no color correction is needed with Photoshop. The camera also has a mode to photograph thru glass or screens. Works great!
Wonderful entry-level camera by rbkantor ,Jun 03 '05
Pros: Lightweight, easy to hold, 2 AA batteries, Pixel Mapping, easy to use, Manual settings. Cons: XD card. Only 3 picture sizes.
This is the third Olympus Camera I own. This one is an upgrade from D540.
Takes better shots than D540, very easy to use. It has sound and is able to record movies with sound. Has manual settings mode where you can override camera's settings. Fast starting time.
The battery covering seems to be a little flimsy. However this might be only my camera's problem.
Do Not Buy Olympus Products by ihateolympus ,Mar 31 '06
Pros: None Cons: Cheap manufacturing, warranty not honored, terrible customer service
This was my second digital camera, and I will never buy another Olympus product ever again. Within three months, the camera died all on its own. Because it was still under warranty, I sent it to Olympus America. They did not respond for nearly a month. When they did, then sent me a form letter where the only customized part was my name on the address and the repair cost of 135. I bought it for $200 new. There was no explanation for why they were not honoring the one-year warranty.
I called them, waited on hold for 10 minutes, and finally got a customer service representative who did not know anything. I asked to speak to his supervisor. He said he did not have a supervisor. He eventually relented, and transferred my call.
The upshot is Olympus customer support lied to me, and I think they had no intention of ever honoring any warranty. Further, their digital camera products are made cheaply and are totally unreliable. Don't suffer through what I went through. Do yourself a favor, and NEVER BUY OLYMPUS!
Pros: Uses AA batteries, large LCD screen, lens cover, ease of use. Cons: X-card is more expensive than other Scan Disk memory cards, other than that, no cons!
I had an earlier Olympus camera (3.1 megapixel) which I loved, and decided to upgrade when I saw this on sale (a birthday present to myself!) I have not regretted buying this camera. It has taken some wonderful shots and is incredibly easy to use. I like the "cheat sheet" that comes with the camera which addresses all the immediate set up issues without perusing the manual. I purchased rechargeable AA batteries, a battery charger, so I'm never without fresh batteries. Great camera for the neophyte (of which I am one).
