Takes great photos, but it's not worth the price

by travvller , Jan 26 '06
Pros: Easy to use, excellent exposure and focus
Cons: Annoying flash function, over priced for what it does, lacking in basic features
The Olympus IS series cameras have always had an identity crisis. At first they were called "ZLRs" or "Zoom Lens Reflex." They have the internal making of an SLR (a mirror mechanism that shows you exactly what the lens is seeing), but lack the ...

Olympus iS 50 - WOW! Your pictures will look professional.

by CyndiA Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jan 08 '05
Pros: Takes some absolutely fabulous photos.
Cons: A few minor details. Nothing major.
The yearbook kids were getting much nicer photos than my newspaper kids. There is a little competition there, but the two departments work together. It’s a small school, and it really helps to share the load and to pass on tips. I asked one of the ...

Everything you need

by kd7iwp , Nov 03 '03
Pros: So many different options, wonderful zoom, crystal clear. Fast focusing, beeps in response.
Cons: Won't "fire at will" in bad situations, flash doesn't automatically pop up.
For photography, even advanced, this camera is for you. I only bought it because a friend told me they found one on clearance and I happened to need a camera at the time since my other one broke. I almost fainted when I saw this one and the price. I ha ...

Great photos in daylight, but horrible flash
by baguette ,Jun 23 '06
Pros: Beautiful photos in daylight, can purchase for very cheap now
Cons: Irritating and undependable flash
This point and shoot camera takes beautiful photos in daylight, and I love the feel of it ergonomically speaking. However, the flash is very irritating because it will work fine for a few photos, and then it starts making a sizzling sound while it's trying to flash, and the flash becomes annoyingly bright and audibly noisy. The camera will not take the picture while it's doing this so it makes it completely undependable for flash photography. I've tried using it to shoot play rehearsals and small musical concerts and it was good for the first 4 or 5 photos, but then failed me after that. Those first photos from close range came out well, but not those from more than 5 feet away.
I've had this camera for about 4 years now and overall am pleased with it. Maybe the flash problem was a defect in my camera, but I waited too long to contact Olympus to find out. If this is the case, then my review would be unjust. But I did read another review in here that commented on the annoying flash problem.

Great Camera - Highly Recommend
by kcastle ,Oct 06 '04
Pros: Very simple camera to use; Takes wonderful pictures, even in less than ideal lighting situations.
Cons: A bit bulky/heavy compared to compact digitals, however I prefer 35mm to digital any day.
I purchased this camera after reading reviews on this website, amazon, photography review and half.com. It has turned out to be a great camera. The first time I used it I was shooting pictures at a wedding dance, minimal lighting, of course, and the pictures turned out great! That was without reading the instructions manual, just pulling the camera out of the box and loading the film.

Little disappointed for the price and less than a year I need warranty work
by jenjensg ,Jan 03 '04
Pros: point and shoot and all of the above body styles.
Cons: okay quality .I have to get warranty work after having it for only a year.
Nice a sleek. Compact and easy to use buttons and functions. Nice zoom without carrying attachments. A bit heavy though.

It's all good
by dzsqrd ,Dec 27 '03
Pros: Weight, grip, balance, size, zoom, ease of use, options, add-ons
Cons: Right handed grip (I'm a lefty)
This camera was one purchased for me as a gift at Christmas and I love this camera. This camera not only has the feel I love but the weight is just right. The resulting photos on one roll of film alone is wonderful compared to some of my other photos from other camera's results which were great but this camera does a spectacular job. This camera would be great for beginners and advanced users as it gives plenty of easy use options.

GREAT SLR for those taking the plunge
by sreekant_nair ,Oct 01 '03
Pros: Full auto,auto flash,great zoom,
Cons: bit heavy, night mode is a bit confusing,no manual focus
I was getting into the world of SLRs but was unnerved by all the terms and the cameras themselves. So I did a lot of research on most of the brands and found that this model fit me perfectly. It has all the features if an SLR camera but is almost as simple as the P&S ones. It has a great feel and the continuous zoom (not in steps)is just terrific.
Managed to get a brand new one on sale for less than $200 inc batteries and that was one deal that I could not let go of. No need to have any inhibitions about this one and my first set of prints are just great. The landscape and closeups are exceptional
