Babywise II ~ Not So Wise!

by marybatson Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Aug 17 '03
Pros: ● Very helpful mealtime instructions
● Excellent structured playtime advice
Cons: ● Some of the advice is disrespectful to children
● Can be preachy
On Becoming Babywise, Mr. Ezzo’s first book, was an invaluable resource to me when my son was an infant. William thrived on the Babywise method, and was sleeping eight hours a night, at eight-weeks ...

How dare a six month old suck their thumb!!

by redhead1 , Dec 10 '01
Pros: I have no idea
Cons: See review for details
Let's cut right to the chase, shall we? Here are some things this book suggests for ages five through fifteen months:

1) Once your baby turns six months old, do not let them suck their thumb unless they're sleeping. Gently move their...

Worse than the first book!!!

by tsprunger , Feb 09 '02
Pros: good advice on when and how to start solids, encourages prayer before meals
Cons: does not respect babies and their age-appropriate behavior
I just finished reading Babywise II and was sickened!!! As if the first book wasn't bad enough (suggesting parents not respond to their infants' cries during the night after 8 to 10 WEEKS of age!) This book was more harmful and more blatant. First of...

Babywise is anything but wise

by kileym , Nov 18 '01
Pros: none
Cons: This method is dangerous and to be avoided
This book, method and author have been resoundingly condemned by a plethora of leading experts, for instance: The American Academy of Pediatrics (you can find their statement if you do a quick search at www.aap.org), Focus on the Family and Dr. James...

Uh oh, no baby is safe

by jenb123 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 26 '99
Pros: good kindling
Cons: infinite
In case your baby survived the first Babywise, Ezzo again takes a swing at those "manipulative" babies who dare cry, play or get hungry. Who have the nerve to awaken when parents are sleeping, act foolish by displaying age appropriate behavior...

please pass on this

by mom2emma , Aug 21 '00
Pros: none
Cons: promotes undesirable behavior in children
OK I read the first book and though I am very aware about the strong opponents to it I was not as offended. Putting a baby on a schedule is not a horrible act that should be punished by death. Babies actually thrive by schedules. I do however see the...

Wise Choice

by angelamydixon , Oct 28 '02
Pros: Gives guidelines on how to establish structure and boundaries, this promotes security and trust.
Cons: Is not clear that all schedules should be flexible.
Baby Wise has help me raise a trusting, independent toddler. The structure and limits I have learned have been very effective in behavior. She is a happy, secure child because she knows what to expect...thanks to some structure with loving flexibility....

The Real Scoop on Babywise

by delea , Nov 13 '00
Pros: easy to read, practical ideas
Cons: you must remember to be flexible with any type of scheduling.
With any parenting book you must use your wisdom and apply the techniques that you feel fit to your lifestyle and your moral beliefs. When I read this book I thought it sounded too good to be true. A baby sleeping through the night at eight weeks old, I...
