Highest Rated Consumer Review by the Community

  • Love the size and weight of the One Touch Ultra meter.

Apr 2, 2005 by Susie-34668 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Wellness & Beauty
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Much smaller than other meters I have used.
    Cons: None.

Summary: As Len has had his One Touch Ultra blood glucose monitoring system for over a year now, I thought I should write a review about it. I have just up-dated the Accu-Chek review, which I wrote back in November of 2,000. Len has been a diabetic for ... read more

  • Inaccurate Machine

    Jul 16, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Size and Convenience
    Cons: Unreliability

Summary: I have two One Touch Ultra meters, one for home and one for travel. Last month, June, first thing in the mornings, I had readings of 5.2-7.3, which is in the normal range. This month, however, without a change in diet or exercise, the readings, still ... read more

  • A fatally flawed meter, now recalled

    Feb 14, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: It is dangerously inaccurate, therefore, no "Pros" matter. Its successor is splendid, however.
Cons: Dangerously inaccurate. Been recalled, accordingly.

Summary: UPDATE OF THIS METER April 29, 2006 While in the process of reviewing new meters, I have recently retested this One Touch Ultra. As I wrote previously, I had some concerns over reliability and validity, particularly for a 'high end' meter of this ... read more

  • Avoid the OneTouch Ultra, go with Freestyle

    Oct 5, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Compact, lightning-fast test time, great tech support.
Cons: unusable with alternate sites, big sample size compared to freestyle.

Summary: The OneTouch Ultra advertises itself as an Alternate Site tester. Feh! I have used the freestyle for years, and when my Insurance company sent the Ultra, I gave it a try. Smaller test strips, faster test time, and alternate site all impressed me, until I ... read more

  • Monitoring your progress.... it's SWEET!

    Mar 4, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Small, compact, easy to use, with sturdy carrying case. Accurate.
Cons: Well, anyone who must keep track of blood sugars would rather not.

Summary: OneTouch Ultra Blood Glucose Monitoring System I have checked blood glucose on patients for years. But, within the past six months, my physician has blessed me with the diagnosis of Diabetes. Well, I’m here to tell you, it’s a whole “'nother” ... read more

  • There is a better meter; TheraSense FreeStyle

    Feb 24, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Good lancing device, better than the one with the FreeStyle meter.
Cons: Too fast, and requires more blood than I can easily supply.

Summary: I am 60 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago. Since that time I have used four different meters. The latest one is the One Touch Ultra. I have to use it because my Aetna insurance does not cover the TheraSense FreeStyle that I got when I ... read more

  • Testing with One Touch Ultra is easy

    Feb 4, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Tests small amount blood, fast results, mostly painless finger/arm testing, compact, nice case.
Cons: Small test strips somewhat difficult to handle.

Summary: When I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes last October I felt devastated. Although I knew there was a possibility when I was growing up, because of family history, I was hoping it would bypass me. But here I was, being told that I needed to change my ... read more

  • Compact and easy to use! Great for the newly diagnosed diabetic.

    Jan 21, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Very small (1ul) blood sample, compact, easy to use!
    Cons: Honestly, none!

Summary: I have very recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and when told I needed to purchase a monitoring system, I was quite frankly overwhelmed. The thought of testing my own blood was very scary simply because of the lancet. I am writing this review ... read more

  • One Touch Ultra

    Oct 30, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: small size, results in 5 seconds, small blood sample size, computer software available
Cons: included lancing device, cannot be exposed to extreme temperatures for long periods of time,

Summary: I have been a diabetic for 16 years and have seen many blood glucose meters in my time. I got my first One Touch brand (Profile) about 8 years ago free from a doctor, as it was the current meter at the time. I became a fan of One Touch products at that ... read more

  • Testing blood sugar quick and easy

    Oct 9, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Quick, very small blood sample, reliable, easy to carry with you.
Cons: For those with poor dexterity, the small strip size may be a problem.

Summary: In my opinion, this is the best blood glucose meter on the market right now for several reasons. 1) It's very fast - only 5 seconds and you have the test result. Many of the other meters take between 20 and 60 seconds to complete a test. This may seem ... read more

  • Fantastic Meter, Fantastic Service

    Sep 18, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Customer service, strips, lancing device
Cons: No beeps may be a problem for some people

Summary: I got this meter because my pharmacist highly recommended it. I saw why very quickly. My insurance covered the meter, except for a co-pay. In the kit was the case (which works out fine for me), the lancing device, 10 lancets, 10 test strips, a log ... read more

  • Great meter

    Feb 9, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Small, quick results, readily available strips, easy to use, little needed. blood
Cons: battery availability & cost of battery.

Summary: Being type 1 diabetic for 31 years, I've used all kinds of meters since they were first introduced. I really like this meter. The two biggest reasons are the size and quickness of results. It's size is 3inches high, by 2.5 inches wide. That's ... read more

  • Its Fast, But is it Accurate?

    Jan 7, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Nice Package Size
Cons: Output readings considerably higher than my One Touch "Profile" meter

Summary: I used a "profile" for about a year prior to obtaining the Ultra. The Profile was my first meter, so I have no basis for comparison beyond that. I was moved from Oral to diet control at the 6 month mark post diagnosis, therefore accurate readings are ... read more

  • One Touch Ultra

    Dec 15, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Easy to use, uses little blood
Cons: Pricey, buttons difficult to understand

Summary: When I was diagnosed with diabetes last March, I shopped for a meter for testing. I remembered the ads that allow you to test on your arm instead of fingers. The One Touch Ultra is small, easy to handle, and has a screen with large letters. ... read more

  • One touch Ultra Meter

    Oct 4, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: It is fast and requires less blood.
Cons: Test are not accurate. Test strips expensive.

Summary: I have read a number of comments that this meter is accurate. If one could sample the same fresh blood, as I have, at less than 1 minute intervals, and then obtain readings that are as much as 60 mg/dl apart at levels around the range of 250 mg/dl; then ... read more

    Sep 10, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: It is smaller than the older versions, requires less blood and is faster
Cons: You still have to prick your finger

Summary: I too am a Type 1 diabetic - what that means is that my pancreas does not produce insulin, so I must inject it into me by syringe. Almost 90% of all diabetics are Type2 - which means they can produce insulin, but have trouble getting it out into their ... read more

  • Great little meter, esp. if you have trouble getting blood

    Sep 5, 2002 by

Pros: Uses very little blood. Can optionally test on arm instead of finger. Fast too.
Cons: Case has to be "dismantled" to get stuff out.

Summary: Another addition to my collection (I have 5 other meters) and it's a very nice addition to the family. Things to like about this meter: Very small meter, but the magnified display is very, very large and easy to read (in fact, ... read more

Pros: Easy To use. Super fast results.
    Cons: None
