I needed a compact bookshelf stereo system for my den. The Onkyo has exceeded my expectations! Good initial quality and very good sound. Nothing else like it in its price range. Take these comments for what they are worth - coming from someone who has a high end, audiophile grade home theatre system.

Received my CSV720 yesterday. I researched micro-systems exhaustively. Wanted one with great sound. Cared less about bells and whistles. The Onkyo fits the bill. Went to Circuit City and compared the Onkyo with top of the line Sony and JVC micro-systems. The Onkyo was heads and shoulders above these other units (as it should be for the price). Speaker and system performance is very good; bass (w/ S-bass on) and mid-range reproduce sharp snare drum raps (my metric). In general sound is very clean. No discernable amplifier hum at any volume.
Now the downside. Remote is very cheap and not well laid out. Expect a lot better for the price. This poor remote forces you to use the menus on the unit which can get tedious. Finally, the user interface is geared more to the videophile rather than the audiophile.

Bottom line - Has the great sound that one should expect from Onkyo. Cheap remote and mediocre user interface.

Pros: Great sound. Compact size; attractive design.
Cons: Only plays one CD. Complicated controls.

I bought a floor sample model of this system from Circuit City at a very attractive price. I've been extremely pleased with the sound quality of the system, especially at low volumes where many systems sound rather poor. They system is nicely compact, looks good, and sounds great. A perfect combination!
