Pros: Sturdily-assembled all-metal case, obvious attention to quality control, line-level inputs/outputs for versatile system profile Cons: Only powers one speaker pair; smallish capacitors; less-than-staggering damping factor
[First update: August 2, 2005] If the sound ramps up very slowly at the beginning of a recording, you can miss the first few seconds. Ergo the signal-detection circuit seems not to be especially sensitive. But since I intend to use this amplifier ...

by ricade1_dt3000 ,Dec 22 '04
Pros: great build, clean sound, snap to hook-up Cons: none that i can think of or warrant.
i was on a mission to find an in-expensive amp for my home theater and i decided to look at what Onkyo had to offer along with there recievers and low and behold the m282.2 was the only amp they had, so i did some research and read good things about this amp and then i bought it. well....this was the best couple a hundred bucks i ever spent!! clean crisp sound well balanced, great sound staging and enhanced low end. great build quality, sturdy, if your looking to add a amp to run 2 channels in your home theater, your search is over! Highly reccommended.

Great amp
by therion22 ,Dec 06 '04
Pros: Price
Sound quality Cons: 2 channel only
Bought this amp to power some Definitive StudioMonitor 350's and it pushes them effortlessly and never gets hot. The sound quality is especially good for an amp in this price range. I am using a Denon receiver as a PreAmp only thanks to this amp.

Does its job well
by bbfan04 ,Oct 17 '04
Pros: Price, warranty, performance in its price range Cons: None so far
I bought this to power the front mains in my home theater. It sounds very good, and runs cool even when pushed hard with bass heavy music.
In the first couple hours of use it would shut off when playing at low volumes (I have it set in the auto-detect power on mode). After a few more hours of break-in that problem went away.
I bought this primarily to take the front main speaker load off my home theater receiver, which sounded excellent until pushed hard with 5.1 music dvd's, at which point the power supply just couldn't keep up. Now the center and rear channels have more headroom, and the Onkyo is a step up from the HT receiver's amps for playing stereo sources.
I'm not brand loyal, but given the Onkyo name in this price range(I paid 229.00, including shipping), the two year warranty and the performance of this unit, I'm surprised there haven't been more reviews for this amp.
I've used this amp heavily for 30 days now.
