I bought the oreck xl signature series purifier in april 2006.

A few weeks ago the unit began to squeal every so often then full time. Turns out that the bearings either side of the motor were fried. These bearings were not sealed for dust purposes so engineeering on these units is to the extreme cheap side.

Expect the unit to fail and be without it as it is being repaired. Replacement parts will not be cheap outside of warranty.

Good idea but poor quality components require the discerning to look elsewhere for a purifier solution.

I've had two Oreck XL professional air purifiers for over a year. They work exactly as advertised. The electrostatic filter traps and holds the impurities the way they are supposed to, and the warning light indicates when the filters need to be cleaned. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to be able to maintain these air purifiers.

Pros: EASY to buy!
Cons: Won't do much to start with, and quits doing THAT very soon!

You'd be better off sleeping with a wet hankie tied over your nose. This thing is almost totally ineffective to start with, and it doesn't last long, anyway.

I bought two of these purifiers and was surprised at how cheaply they're made for the price tag. Also, after the first cleaning, the purifiers kept making clicking noises while on and also sparks regularly. I cleaned them again and again to make sure it wasn't my error but it continued to do that. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WOULD NEVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN.

Purchased a month ago and have had no issues. I cleaned with your favorite window cleaner and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then rinsed it off, of course removing the charcoal filter and front screen filter trap.

Easy as pie. Tons of pollutants ending up in the sink so for sure it works never mind the fresh air it releases. Took me about 15 minutes before reinserting. Dried it quickly with a hairdryer. How tough was that?

No pops or crackles as other have claimed. Mine did make the odd snap prior to cleaning. I think it better to clean more often then wait for the unit to tell me.
