Pros: Easy to use, comfortable, convenient built-in cleaner, GUARANTEED Cons: Cleaner prongs are plastic, have heard some bad things about this press!
For me, a garlic press is an essential item in the kitchen. Im a vegetarian, I like fresh foods, and garlic is a wonderful way to liven up food as well as adding a health benefit. In the past, I have had crummy garlic presses that dont ...
Pros: Solid design; very user friendly; dishwasher safe. Cons: Not an efficient in removing the leftover skins as I’d like.
I like garlic, my wife likes garlic, my house likes the smell of garlic, my meats like roasting in garlic. I have always cooked with garlic; nothing livens up the taste of food like freshly pressed, chopped, or minced garlic. But chopping fresh garlic ...
This is another great product from OXO. OXO is known for making good kitchen tools that are comfortable to use. How it works. You first get some garlic cloves. The cloves should be peeled but if you’re in a hurry you could actually do this ...
Pros: Makes pressing garlic easier than imaginable Cons: none found
First of all, let me clarify that I do NOT believe in Weirwolves or the Wolf Man, even though I have to admit that Lon Chaney was the best Wolf Man ever. Neither do I believe in vampires, although Bela Lugosi was the fantastic in his portrayal of ...
Pros: As good as a garlic press gets Cons: Garlic snobs don't press there garlic
There is an old Yiddush saying that "A nickel will get you on the subway, but garlic will get you a seat." (The cost of the subway should tell you how old that saying is!) I love garlic. I tend to not use a press, however, because I find it is quick and...
Pros: Sturdy, well-designed, works as advertised, attractive, easy to clean and use. Cons: Slightly expensive. Personally, not a gadget we use as we like to smash-n-bash garlic manually.
Lately I've been going on a cleaning spree in my household. Anyone who has lived with me knows my rule, "If I'm in the mood to clean, do not stop me because you never know when it might strike again." On this latest cleaning spree I took to ...
Pros: works well, Oxo follows through on warranty Cons: hard to clean
I have to admit right here at the beginning of this review that my husband does the majority of the cooking in our house, because, well, he loves it, and I hate it. However, I AM Italian, so anything having to do with lasagna or sauce falls to me, so I'd ...
This Oxo Garlic Press was given to me as a gift in a huge box of other kitchen utensils from my parents who can cook better than most restaurants. Of all the kitchen utensils in the box, this item was the best. After 6 years of frequent use and ...
Pros: Great design, low price, a must-have for all kitchens Cons: None at all
What a wonderful gadget this is! Having gone through all sorts of ways to try to get fresh garlic (instead of that jarred or garlic powder) into our food, I was so happy to find this product. Imagine every time you want garlic, you have to get the ...
Pros: Very easy to handle, and quick to clean. Cons: None that I have found.
I recently purchased this garlic press from Linens and Things at about $14. At first I thought it was a bit pricey but I found out that it was money well spent. The great thing about it is the comfort of the handles. My hands have a hard time holding on ...
Pros: Hand grips are comfortable Cons: Handles are not too strong
I started to buy OXO products a couple of years ago and I loved the products. So when it was time to but a garlic press I decided to continue with a line of products that I was familiar with. I used the OXO garlic press several time and I though that...
Pros: A solid feel, works well, has large area for clove & surface, dishwasher safe Cons: none
I've had lots of garlic presses and this is my favorite by far. It's priced fairly (under $20 in stores), cleans easily with the mechanism performing the way it promises. It requires little effort, making it great for arthritics. It's solid to the touch, goes into the dishwasher and allows you to use the entire clove without waste.
You may be able to get them at Williams-Sonoma and I urge you, if you're in the market for a solid, perfectly designed garlic press, to give this a try. It's durable, very comfortable in the hand, and I can't imagine anyone not being happy with it.
Prices vary but you can probably get one for something like $13-$14 in a store - or save by looking on e-bay.
The cleaning brush is attached so you're never in danger of having to search for it when you want to clean out any remaining slivers of garlic though I'm happy getting anything left in the press out with knife (which generally isn't necessary).
Tough on garlic, easy on arthritic hands by chiliqueen ,Mar 17 '07
Pros: Easy to use, makes quick work of garlic for recipes Cons: Can be messy and hard to clean
As someone who frequently cooks Mediterranean menus heavy on fresh garlic, the Oxo garlic press is a chef's best friend. Rubber-coated handles make gripping and squeezing more user friendly than all-metal garlic presses, and cleanup is a snap. Like most garlic presses, you can choose to pre-peel the garlic before pressing it, but you'll still need to clean the press in-between uses. It comes with a built-in cleaner, and usually a quick run under the tap will remove most debris. The garlic comes out as more of a paste than it would if you were to chop it, and is a much faster way to add flavor to soups, salads, and more with minimal effort.
I've owned my Oxo press for years and haven't had any of the problems that other reviewers mentioned (handles falling off, hinge breaking). I do usually hand-wash, and I don't prepeel my garlic, and the press is still going strong 2+ years later. Perhaps my press was subject to different quality control standards: I bought it several years ago and had it stored until recently.
