  • Panasonic DMR-ES10 DVD Recorder - A VCR Replacement or More?

    Jun 15, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Low price, solid build quality, responsive, picture and sound quality, easy to use
Cons: No digital inputs, no DVD+RW recording

Summary: With DVD recorder prices getting lower and lower, it is difficult not to get one. I needed to archive some programs off my D irecTivo, mainly Formula 1 races that I have accumulated last year on the Tivo's hard drive. ... read more

    Excellent recording and editing facilities.

Cons: Reliability of a chocolate teapot
    Lousy customer service
Did I mention the crappy reliability?

Summary: Initially, I was really impressed with the product. I thought the editing features were simple yet effective. However, the player stopped working after a year and a half. It went into a continual "self check" loop and then completely stopped. I wrote ... read more

    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Durability, Features, Multi Format Recording
Cons: Lacks Zoom Button on Remote Control

Summary: I bought this unit about six months ago, as a refurb on Ebay. After consulting Epinions, it seemed that Panasonic DVD recorders were among the best. This is my first DVD recorder, and let me tell you I am impressed. It is heavy, and seems very well ... read more

  • Not bad for a first DVD recorder.

    Aug 10, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: DVD-RAM capability, three inputs, reliable.
Cons: Remote ergonomics, somewhat sluggish interface, sparse button layout on front of machine.

Summary: I had the ES10 since December of 2005 and have not had a problem with it. The recorder is used daily for timer recordings, backing up some of the favorite videotapes, and interestingly enough - as a music player, which is underused in many applications ... read more

  • Excellent recorder

Pros: ease of use, high quality, editing features, conectivity, timeslip, stylish design, extremly fast and responsive.
Cons: No built in freeview or hard drive

Summary: I bought this product due to how happy i was with a previous panasonic model (DMR-E55) which i found very reliable, high quality and had lots of great features. I used it a lot more than the arerage person and had it for two years and had no problems. I ... read more

  • A solid, reliable product

    Sep 15, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Reliable, solid product, whatever it claims - it does well
Cons: No Firewire input, cannot create chapters, cannot read digital pictures from DVD

Summary: Summary ------- I bought this Panasonic model after wasting a week trying to get a CyberHome 1600 model to work. This is a great product, but the one feature that is absent is a Firewire input. So, you can never get truly digital quality because you ... read more

  • Awesome unit

    Jul 20, 2005 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Records on DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R. Plays just about any format you can think of.
Cons: No Digital audio INPUTS. (But not sure if any units have this.)

Summary: I wanted this unit to help me transfer my old camcorder tapes to DVD and also replace my VCR. I didn't go with a Hard Drive Unit as I will probably be adding an HD PVR to my set up soon and thus felt it would be redundant in the future. I have ... read more

  • Great product

Pros: Easy set-up, lots of features, compatible with most discs.
Cons: Recording time limited to that allowed by a single DVD.

Summary: I've owned this recorder for 2 weeks now & haven't been able to find a flaw. I had a little trouble connecting to my TV to see a picture, but managed to go through my VCR first & everything seems to be ok. I purchased it mainly because I wanted to ... read more

  • Very impressive performance, and affordable

    May 26, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Amazing DVD RAM capabilities, great 4 hour mode, commercial skip, nice menu system, and price.
Cons: Oddly (un)balanced remote, and can't use number pad for TV channels

Summary: I purchased this unit at BJ's for $179 a few weeks after they ran out of stock on the older DMR-E30, which I had been pondering for some time, as it seemed to be the best value for the money out there. I'm glad I waited. The ES-10 is significantly ... read more

Pros: Value, easy of use, connectivity, performance.
    Cons: No S-video pass through.

Summary: I wanted a DVD recorder that can also dub as a progressive scan DVD player, and I got exactly what I wanted. The specs listed on Epinion is not exactly accurate. It has 2 inputs on the back, S-Video/RCA's, and one input on the front, S-Video/RCA. I don't ... read more

Pros: Easy to use; excellent quality; supports all DVD and CD formats. Excellent technical support.
Cons: Confusing manual. Typing chapter titles is slow.

Summary: This is my first DVD recorder and I read a lot of reviews before I bought it. I was nervous because it seemed like there were lots of complaints about every model out there. Fortunately, this one is a jewel and I'm very pleased with my purchase. I'd ... read more

    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Excellent recording quality.
Cons: Would have been nice if it could record to dvd+rw as well.

Cons: Takes long time to read disks.  The player broke after 1-1/2 years with moderate use.

    Feb 4, 2007 by
    Rated Show
Pros: When it worked, it was great. The DVD-RAM time slip feature was nice.
Cons: Recorder stopped working after 2 years.

Summary: I owned this for 2 years. I moved it downstairs to a different TV and it no longer records. Get it fixed? Sure, for $140. You can buy a new one for that. Call me picky, but I think electronics should last longer than 2 years. Thumbs ... read more

  • Buy the extended warranty or another brand

    Jan 18, 2007 by

Pros: Easy to operate inexpensive DVD recorder with good features.
    Cons: Bad reliability issues.

Summary: This unit failed just after the one year warranty expired. Since it wouldn't even turn on, I opened it up to get my DVD out of it and noticed a bulging capacitor. With a little bit of online research, I found a site that explains the problem well. It ... read more

    Rated Show
Pros: Does what its supposed to. Relatively cheap.
Cons: Has a small "jitter" bug, see above.

Summary: OK, so I bought this unit to archive VHS tapes and DVDs. Once you read the manual, recording and editing are a piece of cake. Operations are not that intuitive since this was my first DVD recorder. The VHS tapes transfer over just fine, however, the ... read more

Cons: Doesn't record with any consistency.

Summary: I've owned this unit now for about a year and only have one BIG complaint: it works well when it works...but only works about 60% of the time. I use Maxell DVD-RW discs for TV time-shifting, usually recording between 6 and 8 hours on a disc. But, to make ... read more

Pros: Easy to use, sleek look, plays all formats.
    Cons: Doesn't record DVD+RW.

Summary: This is a great recorder. But take the time to read the manual! We had some frustration because the auto channel set only goes to 125, when all of our good channels are in the 200s. After some fussing, we realized you can set the TV on whatever ... read more
