Pros: reasonably well plotted, topical Cons: Kinsey's character gets more boring every book
Take one retired doctor, a trophy wife, and an embittered ex-wife; hide the Doc, toss in some squirrely offspring of various ages, and spice with just the slightest hint of Medicare fraud. Add a mildly antisocial female private eye. Shake well in a...
Pros: Other than it is Sue Grafton and the series continues.... Cons: this is a book to skip for so many reasons.
I was digging around in my files the other day and cleaning stuff up and I realized that while I had reviewed Q Is For Quarry I hadnt reviewed this one. Not that you are missing anything, as this one pretty much wasnt worth reading ...
Pros: Some plot twists, but few Cons: Deviates from what we love about these books!
P is for Peril is Sue Grafton's latest endeavor in her quest to cover the entire alphabet with Kinsey Millhone mysteries. It's a very good mystery, but G is for Gumshoe still has to be my favorite!
Pros: easy to read and fast paced Cons: the ending leaves something to be desired
This is the first book I have ever read by Sue Grafton. I picked it up at my mom's house. She had highly recommended Sue Grafton's works to me many years ago, however I never sat down to read one of the books. I've been stuck at home for the past few...
I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I’m a huge fan of Sue Grafton’s “alphabetical” Kinsey Millhone mysteries. It’s not very literary, I know, but I’ve read every one (starting at A) and, each year or so, eagerly await the publication of the latest...
Pros: Kinsey Millhone mystery Cons: Kinsey isn't the same
I have been reading this series since the first installment A is for Alibi and have not missed a single letter of the alphabet. I usually enjoy the books immensely and rip through them in one or two sittings.
Pros: Not a whole lot with this one. Cons: What happened to the final 2 or 3 chapters?
I have been a long time reader of Sue Grafton's A-Z alphabet murder mystery series. There isn't one that I have missed. It was with great expectations that I ordered book #16 in the series from The Mystery Guild. I got the P alright, peed off!
...
Pros: Kinsey Millhone is back! Cons: Little character development. Seemingly pointless sub-plot.
Sue Grafton’s most recent outing in the alphabet mystery series is “P is for Peril,” and Kinsey Millhone is on the job again. The elderly M.D., and nursing home administrator Dr. Dowan Purcell is missing. Purcell’s ex-wife Fiona hires Kinsey to...
Pros: If you're truly hooked on Kinsey then you at least won't demand your money back. Cons: You want to shake some life back into Sue, she seems to have misplaced it.
I have absolutely loved every one of the alphabetical series by Sue Grafton. There are very few authors that I rush out and buy the hardcovers for. Sue Grafton has always been one of them. I finished up P is for Peril with hardly a thread of that...
Pros: Kinsey keeps us laughing Cons: Trip into noir fiction a miss
I look forward to certain things every year: Halloween, my tax refund, and the latest Sue Grafton novel. I happily purchased "P is for Peril" and read it in three days only to be left with a question mark over my head. While I understood the plot and...
Pros: A pleasant way to spend an evening (it's a quick read). Cons: Solution easily guessed. Strange subplot.
I hate reading series books, because no matter how much they dissolve into triteness, I'll keep reading. I just have to know how the main character is doing, even if he/she isn't really doing very much. And sadly, this is the case with P is for Peril....
Pros: Engaging, good plot, moves quickly Cons: Subplot takes up too much space
It's not Kinsey Milhone at her best, but it is much better than O was. Kinsey is hired by a woman whose ex-husband has been missing for over two months. There is the usual assortment of characters - the ex, the current wife, the children,...
Pros: Typical easy read, suspenseful, and pithy. Grafton hones sarcasm to a new high.
Cons: TERRIBLE ENDING..Find out what happened to the last chapters.
I totally agree, it's also for Peed off and perplexed! I just read this book and found there are missing end chapters. One of Sue Grafton's major schticks, is the final report submitted by Kinsey Millhone, PI. This was absent from my copy, as well as the summation chapter--
I'd like to believe this was a publishing error, but so far, my online research hasn't discovered a site where the final chapters are available to read. Perhaps, they can be furnished, as I doubt Grafton would let Kinsey Millhone fade away into the sunset like that, without finishing her case.
