Pros: USB Connection, decent suite of software, decent speed, basic color correction capability Cons: 35mm only, software has a few annoying quirks
I wanted to convert my slide and negative collection to electronic images that I could save on a cdrom. I wanted to do this for two reasons, one, because my collection takes up a lot more room than a couple of cdroms and two, because print negatives and...
Pros: quick scans
easy to use Cons: colors a little off.
slides are sometimes too dark.
***UPDATE 4/5/02 ***
I've been using this scanner for quite sometime and have been more or less satisfied with it. So far I've scanned in a little over 500 slides and some negatives. I would like to comment that this scanner doesn't work too good on...
Pros: USB; Cheap; Easy to adjust scanned images Cons: Just about everything else
I borrowed this from someone at work to try to scan in all the slides I had taken in Europe years ago. I'm glad I got a chance to use this before actually spending money to buy it.
The scanner comes with Presto! Mr. Photo and Presto!...
Pros: Price, Size Cons: Slow scan, no "dust off" in software
I bought this scanner in a rush since a rented high-end scanner simply failed to work with my PC. I was hesitant at first but I am now really glad I bought this scanner. It was easy to install and generally works fine - at least in color.
Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Poor software, image quality and customer support.
I bought this scanner hoping that it would save me some money and provide decent quality scans from the last 20 years of slides and negatives. I feel I know the difference between amateur and professional gear and have been using professional camera...
Pros: One of the cheapest on the market. Cons: Can't get it to work with Windows 2000, can't scan multiple films
This product is a complete failure. The CyberView software mentioned in the manual didn't show up as one of the installable programs when the CD are popped in. I did a search in the CD, but couldn't find it. I had to go to the manufacture's website to...
Pros: price Cons: poor support, will not even install
I picked up this scanner to digitize about 1000 old family 35mm slides and was led to believe this unit was capable of doing that. I must have messed around for almost a week trying to install this scanner and was beginning to think my USB card had died...
Pros: Easy to clean surface makes it an ideal doorstop. Cons: Stops working after scanning 5 slides, and doesn't do a very good job.
If you are thinking about buying this scanner, first download the Macintosh drivers and have a look at the dates of the files. Mostly 2002 to 2003 PPC stuff from early operating systems. Nothing that runs natively on a mac with an intel processor, so it ...
Pros: None Cons: Software just plain does not work.
Hardware is very noisy
The scanner is inadequate. I tried it under Mac OS 8.6 an OS 9.
The installer crashed when loading.
When finally loaded, the images scanned blue.
After updates from customer service, the s/w crashes after 10 scans.
Software...
Pros: None. Cons: Terrible customer support. Terrible support for Macs.
Scanner was defective when received. After 2 months of emails, convinced one support rep that the bulb was too dim. Sent the scanner back to the company only to have it returned unchanged. The service tech hadn't even read the complaint when he called...
Pros: Inexpensive, nice quality scans, decent software Cons: Not pro resolution
I purchased the 1800u from Costco and with a rebate it wound up costing me only $99 plus tax and shipping. For that price, this is a great piece of hardware. I'm using it in conjunction with Photoshop 7 to scan in old family slides that I will be turning...
Pros: Cheap Cons: Light images, bad color, software doesn't work, scan button doesn't do anything
This is junk, pure and simple. I've used several other film scanners and they all put this one to shame. After two hours of coaxing and playing with it, I managed to get one good scan of an excellent slide - including using a photo editor to enhance...
Pros: Good Results and Easy to use. Cons: Still slower than I would like and software can be a problem.
I've been using the 1800u for a week now trying to get the many thousands of slides that I have taken over the years into a digital form. The scanner works much better than a previous scanner I have had but it is not as fast as I had hoped it would be. The only problem that I have run into is software that keeps needing to be re-installed. I have gone to the web site for the unit for an updated driver for Windows 2000 and I hope that this will fix the problem.
Pros: Great price, easy to use, good quality picture Cons: bigger zoom for a larger picture at a closer to screen set up.
I have had this unit for over a year for Home Theater use. It has been great on a 101" screen. I also set up an outside drive in theater for the summer showing about a half dozen movies. It managed to give a good quality picture on a screen 8 feet high and 16 feet wide. All that watched were impressed. It is easy to set up, focuses well and keystone allows for miss alignment to screen.
