Pros: Wi-Fi antenna, LED, SD/MMC slot, user programmable, OS stability Cons: Just 8MB internal memory, SD/MMC currently restricted to content storage and applications.
For many of us, the wait for an ideal corporate Palm powered handheld is finally over. With the new Palm i705, it gives you the capabilities of wireless Internet without the hassle. The secret to it is the integrated Wi-Fi antenna on top of the...

Pros: Wireless internet, bigger screen, lightweight, expansion slot Cons: Slow service, not enough memory, not all internet capablities allowed, black and white

Pros: lightweight, easy to read screen, responsive Cons: pricey
After being disappointed with my HP Jornada over time, I started looking for something new. I didn't just want the typical "agenda" handheld device. I wanted something I could use in every aspect of my life: home, work, play, etc.
I have been a long-time Palm user. My previous model was one of the originals, and disappointed me only in that its endurance kept me from buying newer models. Finally, me need to get email on the road gave me the push I needed to get a newer model....
Pros: Blackberry quality wireless email with Palm software Cons: b/w screen, lack of key (thumb)board
I replaced my blackberry with this---why? Because Blackberry's calendar and other non-email capabilities are too rudimentary to be useful, and I'm tired of carrying around so many devices! The i705 works on the same radio network as the Blackberry and...
Pros: great for wireless corporate and personal email; lightweight Cons: black and white screen
I replaced my Palm V with the i705 in June 2002, primarily for wireless email access. As a long-time Palm user, I also valued being able to transfer my contacts and calendar to the i705.
I retrieve MS Outlook corporate email via IMAP and my...
Pros: Powerful, Fast, Dependable, Lightweight, Sleek, Professional. Overall excellent palm Cons: Occasional problem with writing on it.
I began my Palm adventures w/a m100, then moved onto a m105. Mainly memory was the reason..But now I've got i705 & I am even more impressed. The screen is larger than the m series & so is the writing surface. Both of which make it easier to use. I hav ...
Pros: SD flash expansion Cons: black and white screen
I've had this Palm for about a month now. I have a Handspring Neo for about a year, but I broke the screen. So Ameritrade is giving these out, and my Mother just happened to sign up. Also, while this has the ability to access Palm.net, I'm not going to review that feature. It costs too much, and I don't need to access my email that badly.
The i705 is basically the same as the NEO, with a Dragonball 33Mhz CPU and 8 MB of memory. But the i705 has a newer version of PalmOS, the SD flash slot, and a vibrate feature. The dimensions are about the same as the Neo, but the i705 weighs about 1/2 oz more. The back-light also works the same as the Neo, in that it's hard to read the screen unless it's really dark.
The black and white screen can be hard to read sometimes. It's rather low contrast, and the gray scale doesn't help.
Since these are now going for $70 on eBay, they make a decent starter PalmOS device at a reasonable price. They are being discontinued, and replaced by the Tungstun W.
Pros: Price Cons: One would be better of printing route instructions from the web.
I recently purchased this for my wife. We tested it driving across the Dallas area on two occasions. In both cases, the product failed to properly direct us through a pre-planned route. Had we not known where we were going, the NavMan would have had us lost. To further add to our displeasure, we found that the software shipped with the GPS receiver limited us to preparing a route in advance [on a desktop computer]then uploading to our Palm Pilot. The net result is a reasonably expensive and poor alternative to mapping one's route using the internet and refering to printed route instructions.
Its hard to find a good assortment of accessories, I've had a palm VIIx for 2 years and the update was worth the money, but I'd pay a little more for color,if palm will provide.
I use mine a lot for it's wireless capabilities. News, stocks and graphs and email are all at your fingertips. But,
Just when Palm got the Retail down to $199, it killed it's unlimited wireless plan. You are now restricted to 1MB. If you are a moderate user, you will exceed this and it then becomes very expensive-My avg usage has been over 2MB-cost would be $120 a month for the wireless service alone!! I deactivated it!! It's a great address book now.
I had Palm IIIxe that... by vbjcw_dt3000 ,Feb 04 '03
I had Palm IIIxe that didn't have enough memory and I couldn't access the internet. Therefore I purchased Palm VIIx, it's larger than the IIIxe and bulky for me. Got a sweet deal for the i705 which is slimmer in size, can, really, light up the display, much more memory, card slot capabilities, USB HotSync and I can access the internet. Perfect PDA for me and I got the little attachable keyboard which I can use whenever! It was reasonably priced at Palm.com during January '03.
Integrated wireless connectivity in a slim package Send and receive corporate and personal e-mail and get access to the Web without an external modem ...More at Amazon Marketplace
