Panasonic Lumix® DMC-FX01 Digital Camera Rivals Canon SD700

by dkozin dkozin is a Lead on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Sep 28 '06
Pros: Long battery life, image stabilization, low price, image quality, wide angle, compact
Cons: Slightly higher noise than Canon SD700, black case prone smudges, LCD washes out in sunlight
After using and selling the C anon SD700 IS, I have purchased the Panasonic DMC-FX01. The FX01 is similar to the Canon SD700: it has compact design, large LCD and optical image stabilization. The Canon SD700 is slightly ...

A small camera compromise champion

by how2buy101 , Jun 24 '06
Pros: Take-it-all-in wide angle: point and click almost always gets a useable picture.
Cons: Relatively noisy (mostly chrominance), noticeable in large blowups. No zoom in movie mode.
Ease of use matters! When it comes to cameras, it's easy to let your desire for perfection get in the way of letting you take as many pictures as you should. I ooh and ah over the gorgeous, near noiseless photos from my Digital Rebel SLR (also 6 ...

Nice, small, wide-angle (28 mm) camera

by netbob30 , May 30 '07
Pros: Does a great job at nearly everything you would expect of a digital camera.
Cons: Sometimes does not focus correctly when dark, distance, flash photo.
Where to begin? When it comes to cameras, probably with a description of what I use it for. I am usually a casual photographer. The snapshot guy, indoors and out. The camera needs to be small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. Doesn’t matter how great ...

THIS IS IT--SMALL SHARP STYLING QUICK and CONVENIENT what else is there??

by wmjaeger , May 15 '06
Pros: SMALL, SHARP, WIDE ANGLE, CUTE
Cons: If I haven't found them by now, there aren't any to worry about.
A true POCKET camera. There are few digital cameras of any sort that zoom as wide as 28mm, which has always been a kind of "standard" lens for many people, including photojournalists. That means it really is essential as an option--and of course ...

by mopinions , Oct 23 '06
Pros: Beautiful pictures, Battery life, Usability, Display screen, controls, Robust

Great Point and Shoot Camera for Average/Simple User

by mehtad1963 , Aug 16 '06
Pros: Price, Leica lens, compact design, battery life, image stabilizer, wide-angle 28mm lens
Cons: Battery charging requires removing battery from the camera. No case included
I have owned it for less than 7 days thus far, and the camera has satisfied me thus far. I did some research prior to buying the FX01 - key points that influenced my decision were: 1. Leica 28mm wide-angle lens in a compact camera 2. Great battery ...

Panasonic Lumix Problems After a Year of Use - Not Recommended

by suziamo , Oct 01 '08
Pros: wide angle, small
Cons: terrible low light photography, bad design, not great picture quality
Update 10/1/08My Lumix is history and I do not recommend this camera.I'm sort of relieved that my Lumix FX-01 is dead at Panasonic after I refused to pay $111 to have them fix my lens, which bent to the side, due to their design of an on and off ...

The Panasonic FX-01 is a great camera for a realtor, or anyone else

by amarketman , May 24 '06
Pros: Powerful, portable, flexible, and relatively inexpensive.
Cons: I haven't found any yet.
I would like to let others know that the FX-01 has proven to be an excellent camera. As a real estate broker, a feature I particularly appreciate is that I can take a sharp 6 mega pixel picture and then easily create a copy of that picture with less ...

Faulty product and bad service
by keesg ,Nov 07 '06
Pros: good pictures
Cons: Customer service is substandard, as is the product lifetime, or rather, the lack thereof.
I bought this camera hoping I would be able to get some better pictures of butterflies, flowers etc. I was attracted to the zoom, small size and image stabilizer.

For the first month all went smoothly. The auto focus generally worked quick and fast, but was not optimal when using macro.

However, after the first month, the auto focus problem became more and more serious and then the camera stopped working altogether. After six weeks I had to hand the camera to the Panasonic agent in Panama (the country) where I live. These guys lost no time telling me I had no right to whatever guarantee at all because I bought the camera in the US. Then they took all the time in the world to try and find out what was wrong and how long and how much to repair it. I am now looking at seven weeks for the repair of a camera that broke down in six weeks.

I have contacted Panasonic in Panama, but to no avail.

Great Camera
by schmeetz ,Oct 02 '06
Pros: thin, easy to use, large LCD
Cons: none that i've noticed so far aside from the lens extension issue.
I purchased the Panasonic DMC-FX01 a couple of weeks ago and overall it's excellent!

LCD - Huge LCD screen on the back which is clear and bright. My old Canon 3.0 megapixel screen was half the size. It really helps when deciding to keep or trash a pic.

Truly Intuitive - The interface is very easy to use.

Quality - It seems to take good quality pics indoors and outdoors but i'm no photographer.

One Issue - unless camera is on review, once turned on, the lens extends out and that's usually where your fingers are.

Generally good, but pic quality is so-so
by jkrishnan ,Oct 23 '06
Pros: small, lightwt, wide angle, quality movie mode and sound, good macro
Cons: poor pic qual for price
Its a heavily loaded small camera no doubt. I bought it in dubai at 1199 dhirhams (324 dollars)with a 512 mb panasonic sd card "free". Its easy to use, its really small, its got a wide angle function etc.
But in my computer i found the pictures to be over-coloured and darkish at times. Dont jump to conclusions, maybe its my mistake. but then again, i had used the auto setting, so it shouldnt be. I have my previous canon and sony camera pixs in the same computer and they look better. So cant blame my screen. The is that I paid about a 100 dollar more than my canon a 610( 5 mega, absolute natural pictures and microscope like macro function-sad that its so bulky and i hated carrying it; and sony p 72 (3 mega only, still crisp pictures).
My advice test a PICTURE before you buy. How the photograph comes out is the most important thing in a camera. I am planning to return it and get a nikon l2 or sony w30, both are cheaper.

Great Camera
by doubled22 ,Jun 26 '06
Pros: Small, lightweight, flexible camera with lots of capability.
Cons: Picture size on back circle button versus the selftimer would make this a better camera.
I took this camera to Philmont Scout reservation on a 62 mile trek. I took photos before, during and after in all types of lighting conditions and situations and got lots of good photos. I purchase 2 additional 1300 mAh batteries and was able to take over 1000 snaps at mainly 2 mPixel but also an number of 6 mPixel when doing wide angle scenery. Camera worked flawlessly. The scene mode allowed me to take photos during campfires and in low light conditions. The macro mode works well and I even got a good photo of a fly that shows it's body hairs. I do wish the ability to change Picture Size was on the back buttons versus buried in the menu. I have not attempted to enlarge the photos so don't know how much noise there is. Looks fine on my computer screen and TV.

WOW! Good all around camera, only 1 iffy
by marytalk ,Jun 04 '06
Pros: Small, amazing battery, good video, good low light
Cons: Video start LAG and Stop EARLY.
The camera is great.
Lag for STILLS is very small, focus is great, the candlelight scene mode allows pictures normally wouldn't capture & the image stabilization allows the noise to be low. I've used it at T-Ball games and our 20th anniversary party - capturing great photos for both. I recommend the party and candlelight modes. I don't find them noisy at all and the image stabilization gives good focus. The video is good on 18" FPD screen - so who needs a video camera (although a video camera has much higher optical zoom).

The only negative is the video has a slight lag at start and stops EARLY - not sure why. But do NOT hit stop right after your scene ends on video - or you will loose some critical footage.

WOW!! AWESOME little camera!!
by sjpierson ,Apr 12 '06
Pros: GREAT battery life, better zoom, sturdy, good price, good pics
Cons: NONE
GREAT things packed in little packages! This si the best little point and shotter around! It is compact, but does great things. STill has the image stabilizer as alot of the big bulky ones, but small to fit in your purse. Your bigger SLR's are still going to take a better pic, but for convenience, this has all the others shot out of the water.
