Pros: Zoom, ease of use, video capability Cons: No viewfinder; autofocus is a bit sluggish
This is one great camera! I got this 5 Megapixel camera (which I'll refer to as the "TZ") to replace my dying Fuji Finepix 2800 (2.1 Megapixels), which is several years old and very outdated--this gives you an idea as to where I'm coming from with my ...
Pros: 10X optically stabilized zoom,
Quality construction, feel and appearance,
Value for price Cons: Soft focus appearance in some shooting modes.
Small buttons for cursor selection
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Mission statement: The main features of this camera which prompted my purchase of it was the 10X optical zoom with stabilization, and its ISO 1600 capability. The Leica name emblazoned on the front of the lens ...
Pros: Zoom, zoom, and more zoom. Can even zoom during movie recording. Cons: Have to frequently adjust color settings to get best results. No wide adapters available.
10x stabilized zoom. Fits into shirt pocket. If you want these features, your only choices are to buy this camera, or its successor the TZ3, which also has a 10x zoom, but starts with a wider field of view - 28mm versus 35mm. (The TZ3 wasn't ...
Pros: Zoom while videoing, Optical zoom size, excellent stabilization capabilities, ease of use, SD memory. Cons: No viewfinder, difficult to see screen in strong daylight.
Why did I buy this? I am frequently required to electronically post photos & occasionally videos to illustrate points I am making to my company from a remote location, so I need a camera for work. As a long term Canon user and lover, I ...
Pros: 10x zoom, very portable, quick start-up, lots of setting choices, still simple for beginners. Cons: Minor - manual lens cap. Upload to PC is 4 seconds per quality picture.
I had a film SLR and loved to experiment with all the manual adjustments. My wife likes a simple point-and-shoot camera. This is a great compromise. There is a "Simple" setting for her to use, and I just move the selector two positions to "Normal" ...
Pros: 10x Optical Zoom. Quality Feel. Compact & Strong. Scene Presets. Good Focus Speed & Startup. Cons: Sort of would like a view finder.
I purchased this camera about two months ago to replace a Nikon D50 Digital SLR. Although a beautiful camera, I found the Nikon was too big for my needs and I wanted a camera with great optical zoom without the need to change lenses. I also own a ...
Pros: Compact, image stabilized, high quality 10x zoom lens, fully featured. Cons: No viewfinder, no RAW mode, needs very fast SD card for best video performance.
I was looking for a digital camera that would replace my 35mm film SLR camera. Digital SLR's are still very expensive, and the technology keeps advancing. So I decided I would buy a small, relatively inexpensive "superzoom" camera instead, and wait for a ...
Pros: Size, looks, cachet, video mode, underwater housing available Cons: Lacks manual control, lens a letdown at long settings
My first recent digital camera (I have a Kodak DC120, but that doesn't count...was never my primary camera and didn't buy it new) was the Kodak DX6490. I was usually happy with that camera. It had 4 MP, a 10x zoom, and a baby SLR form factor. I ...
Pros: Compact affordable 10x zoom with image stabilization. Takes good pictures in most non-flash conditions. Cons: Loses many movie files. 75% of flash pictures unusable. 4 week repair turnaround time.
==Why did you buy this product?== It's the only compact 10x zoom with image stabilization. It's a very affordable $300. The new Canon S3 IS and SD700 cost around $500. ==What do I love about this product?== I had a Canon S2 IS ...
Pros: 10X Zoom, Optical Image Stabilization, Leica Optics, Small. Cons: No manual aperture or shutter controls. No optical viewfinder. Takes time to learn features.
I bought my DMC-TZ1 from a local Circuit City for $316 after much research online. I installed a 2GB 133X SD card. It is necessary to get a fast card for video capture, so I got the 133X. At the highest resolution, a 2GB SD gives about 1500 photo ...
Pros: Solid hold when taking picture .. Crispness, Stabilization, Zoom, even Movies are super Cons: After four weeks and 100+ photos, no negatives, though do adjust color effect to "warm"
This is my first update of this review. Knowing the careful and time-consuming studying I did, I want to give up-to-date feedback to others. Prior to purchasing this camera, I was critical and returned my Canon SD640, a nice small camera which I feel ...
Pros: features, zoom Cons: defective product, lack of support by Panasonic
This camera was touted to be great, and for the first 40 or so pictures, it worked wonderfully, producing nice pictures --- until it stopped working after the first day of of a once-in-a lifetime safari trip to Africa. The camera kept displaying a ...
Pros: 10X optical zoom, 5mp, takes great pictures, long battery life Cons: No viewfinder, manual lens cap
I've had this camera for a year now and I love it! I researched cameras online and looked at many in the stores before making my decision. The determining factor was the image stabilizer. I needed that! The 10x optical zoom is great. It's got 5 ...
Pros: great picture quality, multiple settings, easy to use Cons: no viewfinder
I've had this camera for almost 2 years and absolutely LOVE it! I love to go to concerts and although this camera has a 10X zoom - it has digital zoom of 4X so I can actually take pictures at 40X zoom, they aren't perfectly clear but when I develop them ...
Pros: Lightweight, easy to carry, great zoom. Cons: No view finder, hard to see in direct sunlight.
I like the looks of this camera. It is small enough to fit in any bag or even your pocket. It is slim but has enough feel to it that you can hold on to it. It is silver and shiny, what woman doesn't like that. And I think the Panasonic TZ1 does a lot ...
Pros: Excellent 10X Leica zoom with image stabilizer with lots of features in a smaller camera. Cons: No viewfinder (but good LCD) and plastic body.
I love this camera. The 10X zoom Leica lens combined with the image stabilizer gives incredibly sharp ,clear, and detailed photographs. You can count hairs on a photo. The big zoom allows you to get real close up from a distance. And when set on "macro ...

Pros: Powerful optical zoom, image stabilization, easy to use, rechargeable battery, value for money. Cons: Too little built-in memory, weak flash.
At $199, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is one of the cheapest 10x optical zoom digital cameras. It is a great little camera for leisure use and excellent value for money.
The camera is not very heavy, but feels sturdy. The lens does not have a built-in cover, but it retracts into the camera body. Instead of gobbling up disposable AA batteries, the DMC-TZ1 uses a powerful rechargeable lithium battery, which seems to last forever between charges. We took over 200 pictures over a period of eight hours, and the battery indicator still showed a full charge.
Off-the-shelf, the camera has built-in memory only for five (5) full resolution pictures. An external SD Card memory chip is a must buy with this camera.
The instruction manual is very well written, and for those of us too impatient to read instructions, the camera provides an "easy mode" that makes taking pictures as easy as "point and shoot". There's over a dozen preset modes, everything from baby pictures to underwater(!) photography.
The built-in flash seems too weak. Indoors pictures often come out underexposed. Outdoors, the camera works exceptionally well. Pictures come out crisp even on the maximum zoom.
Great zoom without the bulk by jimhope ,Jul 10 '07
Pros: Great zoom in a average size, stabilization, many options, great price. Cons: Manual lens cap, auto focus could be better, starting to have glitches
I bought this camera based on the 10x zoom in the average camera size. It was on sale as the 7.2 mega pixel was due to arrive soon. It has lots of features some I'm still learning and a has an option just keep it simple and point and shoot mode. For instance the fireworks scene worked great for July 4th. With the 10x optical and 4x digital you can zoom 40x as if you were using a camcorder. I used a 2 GB memory card and videotaped a portion of my daughter's recital. The auto focus could be better, when zooming more than 5x you must press the button halfway to see a clear image. I have owned the camera a few months and it just started taking double pictures (not sure if my kids selected an option I am unaware of). Also the camera started to freeze up on a hot (95 degree) day. The battery does recharge in a couple hours. A built in lens cap would have been better. The stabilization works great as I rarely have a blurred photo.
Pros: A lot of camera for a little money Cons: If I Had to criticise anything, the camera doesn't come with a SD card.
This camera is so easy to use, especially the simple mode, the stabilizer function is excellent for people with shaky hands.
I bought this camera because it is great value for money.
The thing i love about this camera is its size and the 10x optical zoom, used with the 4x digital zoom you get 40x zoom and very clear photos.
there is nothing to dislike with this camera, I would recommend if you have to choose between silver or black, the silver looks better,
Best Point and Shoot camera with all these features by bear740 ,Sep 22 '06
Pros: High quality sharp pics, great image Stablization, no noise up to ISO 200 Cons: Flash is a bit week unless in auto mode.
Very well made camera, metal body finely finished, specially the black model. No other Point and Shoot camera offers a 10X optical zoom with a Leica lens, the best Image Stablization in the business that gives super sharp images and low noise levels up to ISO 1600. ISO above 400 does soften the pics a bit because of the Venus III engine, but for a camera with this size sensor it is still an amazing camera. It cost approximately $349 US, but it is well worth it. Cameras with only 3, 4 or 5X zooms are useless in my opinion. No other Point and Shoot camera can come close to this cameras quality and functionality along with it capabilities.
Ideal in the digital traveller's world by sachi2006 ,May 25 '06
Pros: Great zoom with image stabilizer on a pocketable camera. Choice of image formats. Shooting flexibility Cons: Lack of simple manual SLR-like aperture, exposure and focus controls.
I landed in Sydney 4 days ago in glorious sunny weather lamenting that I hadn't packed my exquisite Canon 350D with its large bag of tricks.I rushed to buy a "smart" compact image stabilized camera and it wasn't difficult to zero in on Lumix TZ1. In the words of an expert camera salesman I met in Berlin (Photokina time 2002),"Leica is Leica for lenses. Once you use a Lumix, you won't like other compacts". I find the 10x Zoom combined with Mega OIS really great. The menu & controls on the camera makes it a child's play to use it... For the first time I loved playing with all the menus on the bright LCD screen ( an improved version of the menus I had loved before.. the Olympus Z 5050). The choice of image formats and the shutter response make this camera special in its class.
Pros: Image Stabilization, Nice Zoom, Continuous Burst Mode, Easy-to-use Scene Modes, one-handed use Cons: No rotating LCD screen or lens
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is a great camera. I needed a new digital camera to replace my old (really old) Nikon 5700. This was one of the only compact mega-zoom cameras (The Nikon S4 was another), and it wasn't too expensive like the Kodak V610, so i got it. I never regretted it. It's features are all very simple and easy to use (and there's even a Simple Mode on the mode dial), it's very configurable, and the preset Scene Modes like sport mode, and portrait mode, are all very useful. The best feature, in my opinion, is the Image Stabilizer, because it makes taking pictures much easier for people with shaky hands.
I'd highly recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a easy-to-use, compact, mega-zoom camera.
