After having my third child, I caved to the pressure from the grandparents (all of whom live abroad) and got a camcorder. I looked at a variety of JVC, Sony, Canon, Sharp and Panasonic models before settling on this one.

I recently purchased the PV-DV702 Mini DV Digital Camcorder and have been using it for about a month. Overall it's been a very good hobbiest-level camera. The software was easy to install and it detected the camera on the first try. I found the manual very well written and easy to understand.

The video quality and features were good for an entry level digital camcorder.

Most the ditigal camcorder features are convenient. But still picture features are less thoughtful. Almost useless in dark. Would be nice if provides flashlight and push-half-way auto white balance. Still picture quality should be improved.
