Pros: Very low price, DVD-Audio and progressive scan, performancem features, size Cons: Remote could be better
The Panasonic DVD-CP72 is a progressive scan 5-Disc DVD-Audio/Video/CD changer with DVD-RAM, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and WMA playback available for less than $200. Also, the $30 rebate available at Panasonics web site (until 3/31/2003) ...
Pros: Flexibility, ease of use, quality of audio and video. Price/value Cons: Remote, noisy changer mechanism
My Pioneer CV-36 5 disk player just stopped playing CDs. Supposedly it could play CD-Rs, but I had problems with that also.
On video and home theater sound it was fine, I had no complaints. I don't have a TV that can take Progressive Video, even...
Pros: Excellent Value. Full of features and functions Cons: Awful Remote. Very skimpy and confusing Operating Manual
This is the first time in my life that I have bought non Yamaha equipment. I had been using the Yamaha DVD-C900 changer for the past two years. In general I had been very happy with the Yamaha quality.
Pros: Excellent value in a full-featured DVD player. Very streamlined and clean design. Cons: Some controls found on the remote not on player.
I've reviewed them all, and if you're looking for a multi-disc DVD player that also plays MP3s, DVD audio discs, CD-Rs, almost anything, this is the one to get. Very simple, clean design and very user friendly. Progressive scan, optical digital out,...
Pros: Plays DVD-R, multiple disks, simple and clean front panel Cons: Awful remote, wish unit was in black (clashes with all my other equipment!)
Okay, I just bought this last night and overall I am happy with its performance. Since it plays my home made DVD-Rs flawlessly, I will stay with it. However, this unit has one of the worst remotes I have ever seen. For example, the skip and search...
Pros: Plays DVD-RAM, DVD-R, VCD and DVD Audio. Progressive scan easily switched via front panel. Cons: Tiny remote, changer operation is a little hard to get used to.
I bought this deck to play DVD-RAM disks recorded on my Panasonic DMR-E20 in the other room and it does so very well. It has "Direct Navigator" just like the recorder which makes finding tracks on DVD-RAM discs a snap. It will play back play lists...
Pros: Very slim profile and feature packed, with decoders on board Cons: No SACD support, flimsy plastic components
I picked up my Panasonic from the Goodwill charity thrift store. Upon fixing a problematic tray, it appears it can be safely said these multi disc units are highly susceptible to motor damage from use and abuse. They are not built like tanks, unlike their predecessors...sadly. This unit, however, comes with no short supply of bells and whistles and in working condition, and well cared for, is one slick unit!
I was unable to finalize repairs as the left side of the tray, where it is offset in the design, is lacking a metal support bracket somewhere. The tray on mine is loose here, but still operational. I would recommend this player as it is one I will keep for some time. The press on 5.1 audio; SACD, DVD Audio, and now Dual Disc has not helped to light much fire in the general public's awareness, but rest assured, that is NO fault of the technology. Record and Video labels need to support 5.1 surround for the REAL reasons it needs to keep existing. Movies aren't the only fun to be had in surround!!
Broken after less than 40 hrs of viewing by fivemtz1 ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: It didn't start on fire and burn my house down. Cons: It broke after relatively little use.
Beware of all Panasonic products. There is a reason the labor support is only 90 days on this product. I don't watch many DVDs and this broke just over a year past the purchase date. I figure it cost me around $4 per DVD for the "luxury" of watching on this Panasonic DVD player. I was deployed to the Middle East for 6 months of the first year I owned this now anchor. Customer Service was provided me with a canned response when I emailed Panasonic.
This one makes me want to never buy a Panasonic again! by sergheii ,Oct 04 '04
Pros: Good playing quality; sharp image. Cons: Stopped playing after working for only 18 months. Motor needed replacement; so, I trashed it.
After working well for about 18 months, it stopped playing with a "NoPlay H02 Error". From what I have found out, the motor would not start spinning and needed to be replaced. This error is well known and can be found info about on the Internet from other consumers...
Though the quality was good, the reliablility has been the worst for me! Sorry, Panasonic.
Excellent changer leaving nothing to... by daleb_dt3000 ,Oct 26 '02
Excellent changer leaving nothing to be desired in audio or video performance. Changer mechanism is a little slow and noisy, and the remote has very small buttons and no backlight.
These are minor when it comes to the overall ability of this unit, in particular for the price.
Just purchased my CP72, so... by newbie_dt3001 ,Nov 17 '02
Just purchased my CP72, so still getting used to it. I couldn't fit it in my enclosed audio rack due to the length of this unit. had to cut the back out of the rack to fit the player in.
So far, it works great. Only issue is that both CD and DVD play through my receiver (also Panasonic) on the same digital channel, so I have to adjust the sound mode each time I play CD versus DVD. Not a hassle, just an unanticipated annoyance.
Overall, very satified.
