Pros: Wonderfully sweet and malty. Cons: None come to mind.
As a beer enthusiast, Im often asked what my favorite beer is. Some creative souls have even inquired were I stranded on a desert island with only one kind of beer, what might that be? This is indeed a very difficult decision to make, and to be ...

Pros: Malty, Pure Cons: High Calories, High Price
The Paulaner Brewery is the largest brewery in the Bavarian region of Germany and it has been producing great beer for a long time. Paulaner Salvator Doppelbock is a great bock beer and one of the best products produced by this brewery. The history of...

Pros: Rich, sweet, malty and DEEEE-licious! Cons: Other beers aren't as good as Salvator
In case you haven't guessed by now, I'm not really a very religious kind of guy. But when I sample the world's truly great brews, I can't help but think at times that maybe, just maybe, I ought to convert. After all, some of the best beers in Belgium...

Pros: historic and rich Cons: a little bitter
This is one beer that you cannot truly enjoy without knowing its history. It was first brewed by monks in Munich in 1634. That makes this the granddaddy of all Doppelbocks! A hundred years later or so, after the brewery was bought, the brewer name the...

Pros: Sweet taste of caramel and toffee; soft mouthfeel and mild palate Cons: Dry taste and aftertaste; warms as it goes down; heavy body
There are certain types of beers that only the most discriminating of connoisseurs geek out over and German-style “doppelbock” is one of them. Having only had one beer of this type which was American (and past its expiration date) I never ...

Pros: a high octane well crafted brew Cons: too many will adversely affect your ability to walk
I have developed a fondness for good beer bars. I love to drink both great imports and great micros. There has always been (at least in Philadelphia) a dearth of places to drink great German beers. Now there is a bar in Center City called Ludwig's...

Pros: The solid weight of history behind this beer... Cons: ...outweighs the not-quite-as-solid malt.
Well, I wasn't doing anything else tonight anyway.
This is the A side of a twin review of Paulaner Salvator and Samuel Adams Double Bock, the champ and the challenger [shortly to become a triple review--hold onto your...

Pros: Complex, smooth, malty, good with hearty food or just sipping Cons: Might be a little bitter for some
The monks of Bavaria brought us this beer 467 years ago as an alternative to food during Lent. Paulaner, the best of the Bavarian breweries, continues the tradition, offering us today an alternative to tasteless mass-market beers.
Salvator is...

Pros: It is bold yet not overpowering . Cons: I have not found it in 6 packs.
Paulaner Salvator or "Savior" was originally created for munks who were not allowed to eat while fasting. Be it that this was the first Dopplebock all other doubles from Germany usually give names ending in "-or"
Deep red like maple tree sap, sweet...

Pros: everything Cons: nothing
The originator...this is one of the most wonderful beers made today, and I don't just mean dopplebocks either. This beer pours clean with a small, inviting head that makes you want to dive in before it disappears. Great smelling beer too; personally,...

Pros: Rich, bold, flavorful Cons: not a quantity beer
This is the best beer ever brewed! A rich, deep and dark beer, full of flavor. Not for the faint of heart. This is a beer drinkers beer. There is a faint "soy" taste that lingers in the palate and a crisp bite at first swallow. This beer is great...
