Pros: battery life, seats two (although he needs some convincing to share this toy ;) Cons: tire slippage, read my review for a fix. No Seat Belts, Expensive toy!
My 3 year old son was given this toy in May of 2006 (it is now December of 2006). Initially I took him to the elementary school field down the road in order for him to learn how to steer as my yard was too small. The steering was quite difficult for ...
We bought the gator at Walmart for our 4 yr old boys Christmas present. It comes in a HUGE box. Had to strap it to the top of the explorer to get it home. Assembly is pretty easy, but expect to spend about 1 1/2 hours doing it. Egg nog with rum also ...
Pros: fun
excellent customer service Cons: defective motors
traction on grass hills
I purchased the gator for my children (ages 7,5,2) for Christmas. The motor gears stripped within minutes rendering the Gator useless. The children were well under the weight limit. I called Perego and they immediately sent 2 motors next day ...
Pros: long battery life, kid LOVES it Cons: It's expensive! No traction with plastic tires and tailgate comes undone easily
My mom (grandma) bought this John Deere Gator for my 4 year-old son this summer, primarily to ride on her 17 acre farm. My sister's husband assembled it (so it could be a surprise, ready to ride for my son). He told me that it was pretty time consuming ...
Pros: Great looks and functionality. My son loves it and now drives pretty good Cons: Terrible durability/gear design. Being an engineer I would never have released such a shoddy design.
I purchased the John Deere Gator for my son's 3rd birthday. I paid a premium compared to other ride-on toys but figured you get what you pay for. I son loves his "Gator" and thought this was a great investment until....3 months after his birthday I hear ...
Pros: It has never drained the battery because it has never worked long enough. Cons: Can't drive on grass Breaks down often.
I wanted to get my kids an electric ride on toy for quite a while. The neighbors had the barbie jeeps and seemed to love them. Since I had both a boy and a girl I wanted to get something more gender neutral so when I saw a Gator on sale before ...
Pros: Kids are attracted to a car they can drive. Robust, never had any issues. Cons: Traction sometimes compromised on gravel.
We moved into a house on a large lot and on a whim bought a Gator for our oldest son, who was 5 years old at the time. He and his younger sister would ride around the lawn and the gravel driveway daily throughout the year. Within 12 months both ...
Pros: when it works, fun for kids Cons: gears don't last, tires spin, good only on pavement, needs to start in 1st gear
This product is terrible and you get little support from peg perego Canada. We bought this product in 2002 for at the time two kids ages 3 and 1, by 2003 we needed two new gear boxes and then in 2004 we needed two more and then in 2005 we needed two more ...
Not Durable - Motor Burned up within 4 months by websplus ,Dec 29 '06
Pros: Fun to ride on Cons: Not Durable
The Gator is fun to ride on, and neat to look at, but it is not near as durable as the Power Wheels. My son (40 lbs) got his Gator for a Christmas present in 2003, but didn't ride it until May of 2004 because we live where it is cold most of the year. He rode it from May to August, when the motor burned up. It lasted a little over 3 months! My daughter's Power Wheels Jeep has lasted over 3 years, and is much more rugged, and faster than the Gator. Our neighbor also has a Power Wheels Jeep that is a couple of years old, and her jeep is more rugged and faster than the Gator. I am very disappointed in Peg Perego. I'm waiting for the manager to call back (5 days now). Hopefully, they will replace it soon. My son only has a month of warm weather left!!!
Excellent - 2nd set of tires by witzer01 ,Jul 03 '07
Pros: Durability, Customer Service Cons: Uh, none....
We bought the Gator when my oldest son was 4 yrs old. He drove it daily, digging and hauling dirt everywhere. At one point the gears did strip out. Peg Perego immediately sent two new gears without question. He's now 8 yrs old and now his little 2 yr old brother has "taken" it over. Of course, we have two batteries to keep it going all day and even just had to replace all four wheels as they had ran the old tires down to nothing. I can't say enough good things about this ride on. Peg Perego's customer service is no less than outstanding !!!
Pros: long battery life, easy to drive, now comes with seat belts! Cons: nothing big- traction for lighter loads & dump latch easily comes undone
My son got this for his 2nd b-day. We knew it was a little old for him so we were prepared to be hunched over helping him steer it. We only had to to that for a few days... he picked it up real fast. I read some reviews saying it was hard to steer....not at all! Goes much faster on concrete & short grass (we live on a golf course & that grass works as good a cement) then on thicker yard turf. For much better traction use it on the faster gear & put a bag of dirt in the back.... this helps my 2 1/2 yr old who just doesn't give it enough weight.
There have been 2 absolute favorite gifts for him... his John Deere Gator & also consider a inflatable Bounce Round. These are 2 gifts so worth the $$!!!
Pros: none Cons: reverse gear stripped within the first day, JUNK!!
We bought this for our sons 4th birthday. The first day he had it the reverse gear stripped,so we brought it back and let the battery charge over night and he rode it the next morning when the reverse gear stripped again. Why can a company charge so much for a toy that only lasts 1 day without breaking, the company should really make this more durable..remember KIDS are riding these. We are very disappointed we are bringing it back and getting our money back to buy something more worth while.
Great for the Kids and useful too! by jeff412 ,Mar 29 '04
Pros: Easy to drive. Can haul stuff around for the parents! Long Battery life. Cons: Batteries can be hard to find.
We bought this for our 3 year old two years ago. It didn't take long at all before he wanted to go faster, so we removed the high gear stop and he was off. He's 5 now and still drives it almost daily. It is still in good condition considering the number of miles it has on it. We bought a second battery, so he always has one charged. The battery will easily last for an entire day sometimes 2 or 3 days. However, if I have him do a lot of hauling for me, we may go through both batteries in a day. That's the useful part that I referred to in the title. Man, we use this thing for hauling everything around the yard. When he outgrows it, I guess I'm going to have to get a real one. I can't say enough good things about it.
