Pros: Delicious and unusual dishes in a low key setting Cons: Go with a large group - you can try lots of things
For those of you who have looked at my profile page lately, you know that I have taken a new job. While I am enjoying my new job, changing jobs meant that I had to leave the people that I had been working with for over three years – a bittersweet...
Pros: Great Food, decent atmosphere, cost OK Cons: Long wait times, cramped seating.
My Indonesian girl-friend first took me to this restaurant 3 years ago, in order to introduce me to the food of her region. I am always one to welcome something new, and I LOVE food, not in the sense that I eat 24/7, but that I really enjoy good...
From the minute you walk in the door of the Penang, you know you're in for something special...and a really good meal. You can see the kitchen from where you walk in, and it smells real good. One also notices the decor instantly upon walking in: you feel...
Pros: Mango Shrimp Cons: Still dreaming about ... mango shrimp!
This is, quite simply, one of the best restaurants in the entire world. For cosmopolitan, for youth, for culture, Boston cannot be beat. And this restaurant is the best of all these things, plus the food is out of this world.
Pros: Great cheap food, open late Cons: Longs waits on weekends, $8 minimum
Here are some tips to enhance your dining experience at Penang. We all know how great Penang in China Town is. I have been to this Penang atleast once a month for almost a year now. I have also visited the other Penang restaurants in Philadelphia and...
Pros: Great surroundings (right in Chinatown), Good food Cons: Long Wait for a table
Penang is a Malaysian restaurant that's really popular with the college and twenty-something crowd. In other words, you're gonna have to wait a good forty-five minutes for a table on a Saturday night. HOWEVER, the food really is very good...kinda like...
Our favorite restaurant in downtown Boston by arthurjackson ,Jan 28 '07
Pros: Excellent food, friendly service, great atmosphere, all at reasonable prices. Cons: None
My fiance and I attend the theater in Boston quite frequently and always stop in Chinatown for dinner beforehand. We like trying different places but Penang has become our favorite to the point where we rarely eat anywhere else when we are in town.
The food is excellent (they call it Malaysian but if you need a point of reference it's very similar to Thai food). Penang boasts a large and varied menu, from the plain to the exotic, so you can visit many times and never have the same thing twice. I've yet to have a bad meal there.
Prices are very reasonable and the service is always friendly. The faux bamboo decor is a nice touch and the atmosphere is excellent. Added bonus - the bathrooms are always impeccably clean, which if you've eaten in Boston's Chinatown you know is not always the case.
Pros: Many good dishes: roti canai, hainanese chicken, nasi lemak etc. Cons: Peanut pancake not authentic; not afraid to serve poor ingredients when "necessary"
We usually like eating here, only wishing they had real peanut cake (the version they serve here is a pale shadow of the real thing). But this time, the kangkong belacan was piled high with thick, unchewable stems. When we notified the waitress, she said apparently that's what they got in the market, just our bad luck. I asked her if she would herself choose to serve such a poor selection to her guests, or if she would discard the poorer sections instead, she just repeated what she said before. This incident left a bad taste and has made me a little more wary of what they might try to pass on to their customer.
On the bright side, the hainanese chicken was good as usual, as well as the roti canai.
Penang's food is so great! by pechessmen ,Nov 08 '03
Pros: Great food Cons: Hard to find parking. The restaurant's usually very busy.
They've got such great foods. Their Mango shrimp and Buddha's delight are very good.
But since this restaurant's so popular, it often gets very busy and you'd have to wait for like an hour or so. But I'd say it's worth the wait because their food is that good.
It is located in Chinatown, so it'd be very hard to find parking.
