  • Pet Safe Instant Fence - no digging - but this thing is torture

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 15, 2005
    Pros: The idea is good.
Cons: I still feel awful about buying this and scaring my dog.

Summary: Hershey (our dog pound dog) has a good sized pen (30x30 or so) which the previous owner had attached to the back of the garage, but I was really hoping she could be out in the yard full time rather than living in a space apart from our back porch and ... read more

Pros: - Keeps our dogs home.
    - Works better than the buried wire
    Cons: - CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Summary: We bought this system for our two dogs, Jersey (4 year old Rottie) and Farva (1yr old Siberian Husky) since we live in the country but our neighbours are quite close and our dogs liked to wander. It is a fabulous product and it fit our yard perfectly ... read more

  • Works great even on sloped yard

Pros: Works great for anyone who understands geometry, even works on sloped yards, available on Ebay
Cons: Had to learn how to set the minimum correction level for each dog.

Summary: Scenario: Two dogs, a beagle and a beagle mix, sloped irregularly shaped yard on a stony hillside. Sure I could bury an underground fence wire if I used small dynamite charges, I thought I'd try the wireless approach first though. It works very well, ... read more

Pros: Dog has freedom to run and play in yard unsupervised
Cons: Have to park car at the end of driveway because it interrupts the field

Summary: We are extremely happy with this product. We were skeptical that it would work, after reading another review because we live on a city lot with hydro lines running along the back and one side of our property. We haven't had any problems with ... read more

  • Instant Fence is perfect for folks who travel with their pets

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jun 5, 2007
Pros: Portable, One-minute setup, Large coverage area
Cons: Batteries run out too quickly, so we just keep extra on hand.

Summary: My husband and I travel at least once a month and Instant Fence is the very first thing we pack. Our dogs love to travel with us. We have an older Rat Terrier who never gets out of our sight, but we also have a Basset Hound named Annie who will go to ... read more

  • Limited coverage

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 4, 2007
    Pros: Easy set up
Cons: Requires level yard & pet training. No shut off on collar.

Summary: Purchased this unit to contain our Labrador for a few weeks while we built a fence. Worked well when used in the front yard where there is flat level ground. The back yard is 80 feet long and has a 10 foot drop over about a 30 foot span, right in the ... read more

  • Great e-fence, great company

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Mar 14, 2005
Pros: My dog cannot run through this fence. Beats chaining him up.
Cons: Had to wire two exterior outlets to cover entire backyard, but absolutely worth it.

Summary: There are a few other reviews that discuss the setup and use of the Instant Fence, so I am going to skip that. I bought the Instant Fence because I was renting and thought it would be nice to be able to take the unit with me. It worked great. When ... read more

  • Best thing to happen to my dog...

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 14, 2005
Pros: -Easy to setup -Cost much cheaper than a fence -Portable -Wide area for dog
Cons: -Omnidirectional (means creates a circular area...might not work well for unusually shaped yards.

Summary: A few weeks ago, the Animal Control brought me my black lab because some neighbor had complained about it running around the neighborhood. I never agree with tying a dog up, and we had a wood fence in the backyard, but this dog could jump it with ease. ... read more

  • Very Effective Containment System

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jun 23, 2004
Pros: Installation is easy, with no wire to bury around the parameter of the yard.
Cons: I can't tell when the batteries in the collar are getting low.

Summary: This pet containment system is an excellent alternative to the "bury the wire" systems. It cost about $100 more. But it is still considerably less than building a fence around your yard. As our new puppy started maturing, she gradually ... read more

  • VERY, VERY, Very disatisfied with the Pet Safe Pet Containment System

Pros: System will work when initially installed, using the instructions supplied at time of purchase.
Cons: If you live and area of significant rainfall, this system may not work for you.

Summary: We've had our system for 8 months and have had to send it back 4 times!  We had rain on Saturday, so I unplugged the system just in case of lightening.  The wire is grounded with a lightening rod, but I wanted to take no chances.  Went to

  • Poor customer service

    Pros: Convenient fence
Cons: the collar goes off at random places. Poor customer service.

Summary: My transmitter stopped working and customer service has a face of seeming really helpful, but you will never get the replacement. I paid to have my replacement expedited and it has been weeks of chasing my lost dogs that I cannot keep around now. I have

  • Works as advertised

Pros: Quick, easy set-up. Adjustable correction levels, correction range. Portable. Invisible.
Cons: correction area is circular, remote to enable owner to manually train dog within correction area.

Summary: We purchased this product after our 10 month old, 40lb Dalmatian wouldn't stay home. Within setting up the system (only a few short minutes), she was learning her boundaries, and respecting them within a few hours. I would recommend this product to

Pros: Reliable. Works as advertised. Support was prompt.
Cons: Poor Instructions on Base Station/Collar recognition

Summary: We've had our dog for three years. He's been a bolter and a neighborhood nuisance. Finally, we got sick of it. We bought this product with guarded optimism. It did require one call to support to get the base station to recognize the collar, but once

  • So far, so good

    Oct 23, 2005
Pros: Great coverage, configurable correction level in the collar, great value over wired fence
Cons: Transmitter was bigger than I expected (almost 12" cube)

Summary: We've had the fence installed for 4 days and already our poodle mix is doing really well at staying away from the flags. The training program is pretty specific about supervised training sessions for the first two weeks. My dog had to learn what the

Pros: Effective containment easy to install.
Cons: Makes dogs nervous and hesitant for awhile. Price.

Summary: This device worked effectively in containing my dogs. Yet the fourth day that we had it our my husband ran over one of our dogs and killed him. I blame his death on two factors: 1. The dog was hesitant of where it went and didn't move too quickly

  • Beware of Utility Lines

Rated Show by the Epinions community
    Sep 19, 2004
Pros: Movable system, large radius adjustments
Cons: Does not work around utility wires.

Summary: My property is in a city with a utility easement on the side and back, this includes big polls and wires. I purchased the product at Petsmart, brought it home, read through the directions, watched the video and was ready to go. I hooked up the unit
