Pros: Exceptionally moody sets and props; Lon Chaney's striking makeup and portrayal
Cons: Exaggerated, costume-drama elements, with an uninteresting hero and heroine

Pros: Inclusion of the original little-seen 1925 release. Brilliant extras for the 1929 reissue.
Cons: Restored 1929 version made unwatchable by continuous motion blur and slow speed/low pitch
