The Miracle Of Duct Tape (With A Review Tucked In There Somewhere Too!)

by headlessparrot Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 01 '03
Pros: Pretty good sound, small and lightweight, many features, cheap
Cons: Only 25-second ESP, a little quiet and lacking bass, small nitpicky stuff
The music that follows us around in our little portable compact disc players has become so important to so many people that it has become a necessity rather than a luxury. I’m a perfect example. For years, my portable CD player has followed me...

Good little trooper

by jljohnston , Jun 10 '02
Pros: Small, sleek case, good anti shock protection and resume feature. Long battery life.
Cons: Trouble reading cheap CD-R's, awful factory 'phones
I've owned this model of Philips personal CD for about 3 years now. I don't find occasion to use it a lot, but a recent and long trip on Amtrak reminded me of it's good quality.

This is a compact unit, with flush mounted controls that can be...

Sound Quality in Portables Is Almost Back

by pulsetsar , Jun 21 '01
Pros: Clear, surprisingly crisp sound quality.
Cons: Not that many features. Very simple.
Doesn't anybody care about sound quality anymore? All the reviews on this site talk about skipping and bass boost...but nobody talks about the sound in portables. I used to own a Sony Discman from the early 1990s, with optical out, metal body, gold...

Good Sound on Phillips AZ7781

by rainbleu , Dec 28 '00
Pros: the sound, the price, ESP
Cons: headphones
I got this portable cd player for a Christmas present in '99. Not surprisingly, it is still in fine working condition. Users of this product will have nothing to complain about in terms of music quality. The sound quality is perfectly good - not fuzzy...

Good value, good looks

by jljohnston , Sep 17 '00
Pros: Great anti skip, nice looking, easy to operate
Cons: low volume level, poor phones
Purchased this at a great price because I wanted to see if modern anti-skip technology had progressed to make personal CD's useful (even a couple of years ago, it hadn't even in the top Discman).

This is a handsomely styled unit, VERY compact...

A great looking CD player

by luke8400 , Jun 07 '00
Pros: Well designed, well built, sounds very good, great features
Cons: Shock protection is good, but not perfect
I got this CD player at Best Buy last Christmas season. I liked it mainly because of the skip protection. It's a huge improvement over my old RCA with 12 second ESP. This baby has 25 ESP3. And I love the way it looks. The whole metallic look is just...

X-treme Sound

by Pherret101 , Apr 23 '00
Pros: Great Sound and Quality
Cons: Color is not great, but who cares!
Philips Magnavox has hit gold yet again with their new portable CD system. With a new 25 second ESP3 (Electronic Sound Protection) and DBB (Dynamic Bass Boast), you could drive the roads of Costa Rica and still hear your...

Better than a Sony

by BuyOrLeave , Apr 14 '00
Pros: Plays burnt CD's
Cons: Open tab in front of player
I purchased the Philips AZ7781 for two main reasons. First it plays my burnt CD's, and second it came with a car adapter kit. This kit included the usual for the car in addition to headphones, which I feel just plain suck. Buy yourself some headphones,...

Philps: extremely good

by stadman , Mar 28 '00
Pros: a well designed unit at a great price
Cons: slightly bulky headphones
The AZ7781 is the 1st discman of it's kind that i have ever purchased. both in terms of bang for your buck and features, this product is my number one. aside from having excellent sound quality and relatively long battery life, this discman was built by...
