EXTREMELY TEMPERMENTAL

by pelican33 , Jan 31 '04
Pros: user friendly... setting it up to program from more than one disc is relatively easy.
Cons: too many problems to count... it will frustrate you.
Problems I've had with my 820... 1. Making copies of copies. I like to make a disc, then make a second copy to give to a friend. But, depending on the 820's mood (or the CDR, I guess), some do and some don't burn. I can't figure out why. 2. Get ...

philips cdr820

Pros: This gadget makes some wonderful recordings --- when it works.
Cons:

Sometimes it "hangs up" in record mode and won't respond to controls.

I purchased this model because it has a keyboard jack, which makes adding text to cd's much easier, and it has a microphone jack that can be used as a mono or stereo input. It also got a "glowing" review in a magazine.

My Best Present Ever! UPDATED 1/30/06!!!!!!!!
by byronbaker1 ,Dec 29 '03
Pros: Easy of use, style and quality
Cons: The manual could be more helpful
Received this product for Christmas, and it was highly anticipated for sure, and I have to tell you it met and exceeded what I expected! Recording quality is superb.I actually got some very useful information from the video that came with the unit. All in all though I would highly recommend the Philips CDR820 Recorder Player!! UPDATE 1/30/06!!I thought the unit was flawed, but it was the labels I used that made cd's not play! They were to thick! Also, when I burn vinyl, I use a cdrw disc and then burn to a cdr disc. That way if you make a mistake, or something goes wrong during the recording, you can just erase the cdrw. Plus the sound becomes digitized and it makes a better sounding dub! I still love the unit.

This unit has exceeded our expectations. We looked at getting a less-expensive unit, but decided to give this one a try. We are thrilled with the features and versality of this machine. It records great from any media (TV, VCR, DVD, vinyl, cassette tape, CD, etc.). This is a sophisticated machine. It's not a difficult unit to figure out and use if you read your manual! Ours isn't a piece of junk, and we really enjoy it. We highly recommend it.

This is a terrible unit to figure out. You end up having to reset all the commands every time you try to start a new recording. I made two CD's and the unit froze up. Called the Help line and they were no help and could offer no solutions. I have a solution. I took it back and will buy something else.! A real piece of junk.
