Pros: Viewing screen can be moved around on an arm, good speaker quality, light weight Cons: None
I bought this portable DVD player in November 2006 for my kids. They have used it in the house while plugged in and in the car on road trips. FEATURES According to the manufacturer, this portable player plays DVDs, CDs, CD-R/RWs, MP3 and picture ...
We finally caved in and decided to let the kids chip in for one of these portable DVDs for use in the car during longer trips. Once we got things situated I was pleasantly surpised by the experience it provided. PICTURE: The picture is better than ...
Pros: Sleek, long battery life, lightweight, large screen, crisp display, affordable, user-friendly, versatile Cons: Volume and power not controllable by remote, power cord a nuisance
I received this DVD player for Christmas of 05. I've had many occasions to use it since. What was most impressive to me was the size of the screen. It is large but unintrusive. The unit is compact enough to sit on your lap in a car or airplane, but ...
Pros: Large/clear screen w/great picture quality, 3 hour battery life, sturdy construction, adjustable tilt screen Cons: Can't charge battery pack separately or while using machine, volume/power controls, battery pack size
The Magnavox MPD850 sports a huge 8" TFT LCD screen that eliminates the need to 'squint' when watching movies. I am comfortably watching a movie on my unit approximately 6 feet away right now--with excellent picture and sound quality. The included ...
Pros: The size of the screen, the durability and the cost. Cons: volume could be higher.
I bought this portable DVD player for entertainment on all of the driving and flying my wife and I do. This player is perfect for a car ride, I recommend getting the tape adapter that slides into your car’s tape deck or an external speaker system. The ...
Pros: Large screen. Swivel screen. Cons: Single screen use only.
Picture is fine. Sound is fine. Screen size is large enough. Has front panel buttons to do many functions. Tilt screen is helpful in less than perfect viewing conditions. Removable battery is a little odd in shape and placement but does not present too much of a problem.
I am returning this unit because it will not do what I need it to do. I purchased MPD 850 because it has AV Out and I need a unit for playing DVDs during presentations. After using several other borrowed units for this purpose I decided to buy my own. Unlike all the other units I have used, the MPD 850 will not show an image on BOTH the unit screen AND the separate screen. It is either one or the other. That is a shame because overall it seems to be a fine machine.
Very happy with this MPD850 by mvb1331 ,Nov 16 '06
Pros: Image qualify rocks! Good battery life and flexible screen placement. Cons: Remote control seems retard
I got this magnavox MPD850 (why do they put it under the name of Philips?) from bestbuy at veterans day. I was suprised how good the image quality was comparing to other brandnames such as sony FX810 and Toshiba 1850/sd-kp. The flexibility of screen placement made me very easy to satisfy my backseat viewers( I got a carrying bag from Target for 16 bucks, which could be installed between two front seats easily).
Pros: Good picture, nice how the screen can vary Cons: Battery breaks off easily - very poor design
I am about to return my second MPD850. It has a great picture and I like how the screen moves but it has a MAJOR design flaw. The battery pack easily breaks off. The one I first bought was broken from the outset. I returned it. The replacement worked for a week or so and then after a small bump, the battery pack broke off again. It's a very flimsy design. Shame on them.
Best Portable DVD Player Ever Owned by sahoppa ,May 26 '09
Pros: Durable, easy to use, reliable. Cons: None. Really. None.
My kids are 5 years apart and have somewhat different tastes in movies, so I decided many years ago that instead of allowing TVs in their rooms, portable DVD players were the way to go (yes, they are spoiled). We have worn out 4 over the years, but the Magnavox MPD850 is still with us after 3 years. That is 3 years of two boys moving it from room to room, bringing it on car trips, and stuffing it under beds. 3 years of mom sneaking it off to watch at the auto mechanic while waiting for her car. It's really been through a lot and it still works just as well as the day we bought it. It never skips or freezes either. It's just a very well made product. (And I am a very picky consumer.)
Best unit available for the price by zabier ,Jul 21 '06
Pros: Well made. Screen size. Picture and sound clarity. Adjustable screen. Price. Cons: Can't charge battery pack while watching a movie.
Reading the other reviews on this unit pretty much confirms my feelings. The picture quality and screen size are great especially in this price range, but what also sold me is the adjustable screen. It makes the unit very easy to set up behind a drivers seat without having to buy those one of those do-all carrying cases that you mount with a hundred different straps.
You can also set this one up as a tablet if you want to or triangular, so it doesn't tip backward like standard units. The one cool thing I did was connect a cassette adapter used to play a portable CD player. Plug in the 2.5 mm plug into the MPD850's headphone jack and you'll get a car full of rich sound. So,if your car has a separate cassette player, buy one of these adapters (around $10) and let your theater be heard.
This DVD player has several types of digital audio enhancements like echo to really simulate the surround sound experience. Headphones are great too if you want to tune out everyone around you. You will have a lot of fun with this little unit. I know I am right now.
I went to magnavox's website and the site can't find the model number. Our kid lost both his cords and now it is useless. It requires a high output adapter so a universal will not work.
Update: The unit is made in china and distributed thru Initial Technology in LaVerne CValif. You can get cords and acc. though them if needed!
Nice affordable DVD player by jakey073 ,Jul 02 '06
Pros: Looks adjustable screen picture quality and easy to use Cons: Volume could be a little louder
I bought one of these for a present, and was so impressed had to get one for myself. Easy to use good picture and nice 8.5 inch screen. Has A/V in and A/V out which means you can even use the portable screen with other multimedia such as video camera video games ect.
