Bad customer service-Beware
by rili ,Feb 17 '05
Pros: Makes tasty coffee.
Cons: Bad customer service policies. Spout to low to allow normal sized mug use.
I purchased a Senseo coffee maker in December . The coffee it makes is good. I agree that they need to make it easier to get a coffee cup under the spout. I thought only the large oversized mugs would be a problem, but just my regular mugs won't fit. I guess you are supposed to use the little cappucino cups.

My biggest complaint is about the $20 rebate. I sent in the required stuff, but included a photo copy of my receipt from Target. They refuse to take a photocopied receipt. This was just before Christmas and I have lots of other things I bought on that receipt, what if I need the receipt because I have a problem with the coffee maker?
I have never had to send an original receipt for a rebate. I called their service dept and was told no original=no rebate! Sounds like a rip off to me.

Haven't plugged in my old coffee maker since this landed on my doorstep!
by ajjsmom9 ,Feb 09 '06
Pros: FREE through Senseo promo, Great tasting coffee, Super easy & quick to use.
Cons: Have to buy special pods that can be quite expensive. Can be loud during brewing.
I received this product FREE in a promotion. I paid $15.00 for shipping. I was skeptical about how good it was going to be so I held onto my Hamilton Beach BrewStation. It is SO easy to use. And there's nothing like getting a fresh cup of coffee every single time!

You do have to buy the special pods. I've found the Senseo pods at Walmart for about $4 for a bag of 18. However, I've been buying the Folgers pods because they come in flavored coffee varieties. I haven't been able to find the Senseo pods in flavored coffee. The Folgers are a bit more expensive and you only get 14-16 pods in a bag.
But, when you consider buying a Starbucks coffee for $4 everyday, this is still a huge savings!

The chamber is easy to fill with water. I've found that a one cup serving is not enough. I've been making two cups from each pod. There's not a long waiting time in between cups. While brewing, the machine does become quite loud but it's only for about 15 seconds.

I haven't plugged in my old coffee maker since this landed on my doorstep!

I love my Senseo!
by wander01 ,Jun 05 '04
Pros: Convenience of use, flavor of coffee and attractiveness of unit
Cons: No flavored coffees. No others cons.
I've had my Senseo for about a month and love it. It's great to just pop a pod in and almost instantly have a tasty cup of coffee. In fact, I think it is probably some of the best coffee I've ever tasted. I love the foamy head and rich-bodied flavor. And the unit is so attractive in my kitchen--sensual in a sense. And blue is one of my favorite colors.

A big surprise coming
by drward ,Jan 19 '05
Pros: very good coffee
Cons: very expensive, requires two pods for one medium cup of coffee.
The one-cup machines do a great job; I bought the Senseo.
However, the buyer should be warned that less than what I call a cup of coffee, will cost you about $.50.
I had to use two pods for every medium cup of coffee (Senseo calls this a "mug"). One pod will make slightly more than the European demi-cup... 3 ounces.
If you don't mind paying $.50 per cup, the coffee is very good.

Best Coffee Maker EVER
by connorsmommee ,Oct 20 '06
Pros: They are so sure it's the best that they are offering it for free!
Cons: Need more 4oz. cups
I am the only coffee drinker in my household. I stopped drinking coffee because I would have to make a full pot and then I would never finish it. This makes a perfect cup of coffee every time. It's easy to use. There's a water container on the back that you remove and fill with cold water to either MAXIMUM, 4 oz. or 8 oz., depending what size cup you would like to make. You can either use one or two pods, depending on if you want a 4 oz. or an 8 oz. cup of coffee. There are 2 different attachments for the pods, depending on which size cup you want. It brews so fast. You'll have a hot cup off perfect coffee before your toast pops up. I've only tried the medium roast and Irish cream and both are excellent. They are both better than any other coffee I've had. The coffee also froths up like a cappuccino would. I received mine FREE. Even if you don't get this for free, it's worth the money from Walmart or Target.

Make Your Own Pods!!
by jadamoondancer ,Oct 23 '04
Pros: Hot Coffee in 30 Seconds
Cons: Pre-made pods are either too strong or too weak
I really like my new Senseo maker, but I found that with one pod the flavor was too weak and with two it was too strong. So I found a way that anyone can make their own pods at home on this website:

http://www.qmoon.com/pods/wolfpods.html

Now I make my very own coffee pods with my favorite brand of coffee. It costs a LOT less and the flavor is EXACTLY right.

froth unnecessary for me, nice machine overall
by marytattoo ,Feb 28 '05
Pros: simple to use, easy to clean, convenient pods now easily be found in grocery stores.
Cons: difficult for american mugs to fit beneath the spout.
I'm a new coffee drinker. I wanted a machine I could "travel" with. This is a bit big/heavy. Easy to use, senseo pods found in grocery store. Customer support suggested that if I bought the stronger coffee pods and used one but pressed "two cup", i'd get more coffee using less pods. Sounds good to me.

Caveat: like other reviewers, it is difficult for me to get a mug out from under the spout. I have unlatched the "lid" that holds the pods, and the spout, and that helps a bit. But imo there needs to be a bit more room between the spout and the mug.

Excellant Taste - Fast - Simple
by danielwatson ,Sep 15 '04
Pros: Fast, Ultra Simple to maintain. Coffee flavor is on par with commercial coffee shops.
Cons: None
I purchased the Senseo after a demo at my local Costco. I had read about the Senseo being the top machine in Europe and several articles about the coffee which is manufactured by one of the world’s finest producers. I have owned three coffee makers in the past, all top rated, but I always missed that ultra fresh taste and hot cup that you got when going to a 'real' commercial coffee shop. The Senseo gives me that commercial coffee shop flavor and temperature and does it fast. The Senseo has a nice clean look with excellent ergonomics. The water container slips on and off making refilling a synch under the kitchen sink. The loading of pods and cleaning of the main components is simple making maintenance on the low end. The machine heats up in about a minute flat. Two cups of coffee are brewed in about 60 seconds. The coffee has a clean, smooth flavor not too strong, but not weak either. The froth gives the coffee that wonderful espresso like mouth feel and the temperature is high enough to keep it just right even with the addition of lot's of cream

Great coffee machine!
by rrosen ,Sep 18 '04
Pros: Quick, easy, great results.
Cons: none
I have used the Phillips Senseo Coffee Maker several months and I am very impressed with it. I find the coffee pod system a convenient and versatile way to brew that perfect cup of coffee. You can make either 4 oz. or 8 oz. portion sizes using a combination of 4 different roasts, mild, medium, dark and a decaffeinated medium roast. You can mix or match coffee pods for different strengths and portions. The decaf is the best I have ever experienced.

This coffee maker is the best I have ever used. It gives a delicious, frothy cup of coffee in a short time, and every person using the machine can custom brew coffee to their taste.

This machine is great at home and would work well in small offices.

I am very pleased with this coffee maker and recommend it to anyone who appreciates a really good cup of coffee from a machine that is easy to use and clean

Wait till they get it right
by ttt85008 ,Nov 10 '04
Pros: Looks cool on the counter. Great conversation piece. Makes decent instant-tasting coffee.
Cons: Can't fit normal mug under spout. Low water capacity , too small.Taste is mediocre-to-good.
I was very excited to find a one-at-a-time brewed coffee solution. I brought home a blue Senseo and tested the mild, medium and strong versions of their coffee pods-- It's a good concept but they don't have it right yet. I can't fit a normal sized mug under the spout without tipping it which often results in a spill or near spill. The water resivoir only can handle about 2 mugs worth of coffee before needing refils (one mug = 2 Senseo cups, 2 pods). The coffee tastes very much like a slightly improved cup of Tasters Choice brand instant coffee-- almost exactly like it.

Pretty Cool Machine
by trippc3 ,May 11 '04
Pros: Good, quick cup of coffee
Cons: Not quite hot enough.
I started using the Senseo about a week ago and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It's really more like an espresso machine than a coffeemaker, but without the espresso machine cost. I am by no means a coffee aficionado, but I really enjoyed the flavor of the mild and medium Douwe Egbert coffee. The best part is that you can brew a cup, add a little cream and sugar and you've got a great cappuccino-like drink in less than 2 minutes. The clean up is also a bonus. The design allows you to quickly pop out the 2 or 3 major parts, rinse them off, and then stick them back in the machine. I would definitely recommend the Senseo to anyone that wants a good, quick cup of coffee with minimal effort and clean up required.

OK, the machine is great but the store bought pods...not so much
by stephanie91883 ,Dec 29 '04
Pros: Sleek, Easy to use, Quick
Cons: Hard to find a good coffee for the machine, But JavaOne has done it!
I love my Senseo I have had it for almost a year now, and in the beginning I drank the DE coffee recommended for it, but was not to thrilled so i still ran to starbucks every morning for coffee. Then Maxwell house came out with thier pods, I like it much better than DE but I felt that the acidic taste was gone but the coffee was weak. So i started looking around for other companies that made compatible pods and found JavaOne. They have a whole range of brews and also 2 flavored varieties, not only coffee you can also get tea pods, so i ordered an assortment from coffeediscounters.com and found the coffee I love, the tea is a little weak for me but my mom loves it, the french vanilla and the Kamatra Mandeling are my Favorites, I highly recommend the Javaone pods. But unlike the conventional pods you only use One Pod in the One cup Filter for a 2 cup(8oz) brew, so buying these is also saving you money! So my overall opinion is i LOVE my Senseo, and JavaOne is the way to go for a good cup of coffee.

Buy the machine; FORGET the coffee
by austingeezer ,Apr 21 '05
Pros: Great machine....
Cons: Lose Senseo's coffee...
Love the machine; it's simplicity. Made well, too. If you don't believe me, go to Target where they have all the single cup brewers on display. Open and close the Melitta and the Black and Decker. Then try the Senseo. See what I mean? The other ones are junk. BUT, forget Senseo's coffee. First cup I had, all I could think of was my mother's Taster's Choice. Wait a minute...what's wrong with this picture? I just spent 70 bucks on a coffee brewer to get a cup of coffee that tastes like instant? Give me a break. Go for the flavored Java Pods...now, THAT'S a real cup of coffee.

Funky Taste!
by existential ,Jan 27 '07
Pros: Fast, hot brew
Cons: Funky taste, expensive pods, brews 4 oz for 1 cup.
I am not an avid coffee drinker, but its nice to have the kick from time to time. I got the Senseo free from a promotion Philips had on their website. The coffee has a funky taste to it. I did flush out the machine before use and still it has a weird taste. I even used bottled water and without coffee pods and took a sip of the warm water.. still a very funky taste! I was very disappointed because the look of the Senseo is very cool. I really like to idea of brewing one cup at a time in 30 seconds. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this produce. I got it for free and don't even want it.

Expensive
by lronan ,Dec 06 '04
Pros: Cool looking, fast
Cons: pods are expensive, noisy, doesn't taste good, hard to fit mugs
Well, I've had mine only two weeks and I'm going back to my drip maker. Would probably be great for a single person that just wants a quick cup before leaving home, but I like to brew coffee and sip on several cups through the morning. I Definitely didn't care for the flavor, I tried other brands of pods and they just don't fit quite right. Also, hard to fit mugs under the spout. Mine just barely make it if I tilt slightly (causes spilling). Have to refill reservoir too often!!
