Dependable light that's always with you

by firerant , Nov 04 '06
Pros: Dependable, well-designed, durable, handy, often on sale somewhere
Cons: Not waterproof, small split-ring could be a bit larger to fit larger keyrings
I got one of these 4-5 years ago on sale for around $5 at REI. I put it on my keychain so I always have it with me, and it's been invaluable for poking around behind the computer, locating something in a dark corner or dropped under a table or under the ...

A Product Review of the Photon II Microlight: A Little Gem!

by freelancer1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, May 18 '02
Pros: Very useful, small enough to attach to your car keys, very bright light.
Cons: A little expensive and batteries are a bit costly to replace.
When I'm getting in or out of the car at night, I tend to have trouble finding the keyhole. That's why I bought the Photon II Microlight and keep it on my car keys all the time. The Photon II Microlight a little bit expensive, but I...

Now I can see, but where did you get that thing?

by zlotmachinskyr , Sep 11 '02
Pros: A superbright keychain light for occasional use. Almost Unbreakable!
Cons: Seemingly expensive but new products have to recoup costs and earn a profit too.
A novel, light weight, very bright, 6 volt LED bulb flashlight. Almost weightless and extremely tiny in size. Rugged plastic housing can take a beating. Runs on two expensive lithium disk batteries, the lions share of this products cost. Held ...

A Bountifully Overflowing Cornucopia of Photons

by telephony , Sep 03 '02
Pros: Small and unobtrusive, very bright for its size, available in lots of colors, durable construction.
Cons: Batteries can be locally expensive, small screwdriver needed for battery changing.
INTRODUCTION:
Back in the summer of 1999, I saw a curious looking little LED flashlight in the Hosfelt Electronics catalogue. It was the Photon II, a tiny keychain LED flashlight that was barely larger than a US quarter, was supposedly...

The Photon II is a jewel, topped only by the Photon 3

by darkaether , Jan 08 '02
Pros: light weight, small size, 7 colors, replaceable batteries, and extremely adequate brightness.
Cons: difficult battery change (fixed in Photon 3 version)
The Photon series is the most rugged, reliable microlight product on the market. you can get all the technical info at www.photonlight.com so I'll stick more to my experience. I have been carrying LED microlights for over 7 years, and now I use the...

This light can get the job done, but can't do everything

by funkywizard , Aug 16 '01
Pros: small, fairly cheap
Cons: battery replacements are expensive
This particular light casts a noticeable red glow. its just bright enough to see where to put the car or house keys, but doesn't really light up a big area. I have seen this light marketed for safety... meaning other people can see you and not run you...

Let there be light

by iglover , Oct 18 '00
Pros: Amazing brightness, reliable, sturdy, tiny
Cons: Changing the batteries requires dexterity and small screw driver
I have several light emitting diode lights from different manufacturers. Each has something to say for it's product but if it's light you want from a flashlight, this is the best single led product I've found. I own three different examples of this...

Excellent field Tool

by akjim , Jan 23 '03
Pros: Bright, long life and reliable
Cons: Can be activated accidentally in your pack
I have this light with an alligator clip rather than the key chain. Why the alligator clip is not more commonly available in stores is a mystery to me. It is really handy! If you don't have one.... find one at a sewing shop and hook it on. You can...

Amazing brightness for its size.

by ed_wood , Nov 03 '00
Pros: Conveniently small, fits on keyring, superior brightness
Cons: Batteries changes require a mini philips screwdriver.
When you are thinking LED (Light emitting diode), you probably will think of those indicator lights on many appliances throughout your home. But there is a difference between those LEDs and the one in this mighty little light. BRIGHTNESS. The intensity...

Awesome light, now even better!
by opinionderich ,Sep 06 '05
Pros: High quality construction, compact, reliable, new brighter LED
Cons: None
After a bad experience with the less expensive and cheaper quality "Princeton Tec Pulsar II" (see my review), I decided to pay more money for the "Photon II Microlight". The Photon II cost me twice as much, about $17, but it is worth every penny.

The Photon II has very good quality. The pressure button is easy to press, but not too easy that it turns on in your pocket and drains the battery. The on/off switch is also very accurate and stays in the position that you select.

The Photon company has recently upgraded these flashlights with new higher-tech LED's that are 100% brighter than their previous LED's. This applies to the white LED's like the one I have. Other LED colors are available but I do not think they have the new brighter technology. They also sent me a free clip that can be used to hold the light - very cool.

Battery replacement requires the removal of 4 small screws. The quality shows here too, as the screws are more secure than other lights that just snap together. It does require a very small phillips head screwdriver though, so plan accordingly when anticipating battery replacement.
