Pros: Tequila will get you really, really drunk! Cons: So will Sterno.
Tequila tastes good. And, assuming the June 12, 2001 report of the Periodico Publico newspaper of Mexico is inaccurate, Porfidio bottles REAL tequila, perfectly delightful for those who enjoy the taste of real tequila. Those who savor the ...
Pros: Smooth, mellow, flavorful aged tequila Cons: Expensive and can be hard to find
One of the tastiest palate-tempting treats of a trip to the Puerto Vallarta area is a chance to visit Porfidio and to sample first-hand some of the world's most respected and most flavorful tequilas. I thoroughly enjoyed samples of Porfidio's blanco and...
Pros: It is a very smooth nice sweet tequila that goes down beautifully.
Cons: All the bad press makes you doubt yourself for liking it.
I purchased a bottle a year or so ago, back in the day when you could find it. This tequila has had a lot of discussion regarding the issue of the distillery which was closed and the product banned. There are articles such as the one that 411 posted that ...
Pros: High-end flavor, cool bottles Cons: VERY pricey - distribution problems.
BIG NOTE: Please see the updates at the bottom of this review about Porfidio!!! When I worked in a bar in Boulder, CO, they were known for two things - a great deck, and A LOT of tequilas. When I left, we had 18 different types and Cuervo ...
Pros: Simply put: delicious! Cons: pricey, but worth every dollar.
Already an Icon in the tequila culture, Porfidio owes much of its sucess to the Single barrel añejo, an awesome example of the best the world has known in extra aged spirits.
As much as I hate the common belief that tequila comes from a cactus...
Pros: Smooth, unique bottles Cons: Large variation in prices from store to store
When most people think of tequila, what do they think of? Usually it is shots of Jose Cuervo, getting drunk really quickly, and feeling terrible the next day. Well that shouldn't happen with Porfidio Anejo tequila. Could it happen? Sure. Should it...
Pros: It is a great tequila Cons: You do not always get the good stuff
This is the thing with Tequila Porfidio, one day you can go to your favorite liquor store and get a bottle of this product and be amazed because you have tasted a smooth well balanced tequila, so from now on, it dose not matter how much it costs I will...
With all due respect to the misguided writer of Buyer Beware, Porfidio has not been shut down by the Mexican government. They are alive and well just north of the airport in Puerto Vallarta, and welcome guests for tours and tasting. The brewers...
All these rumors for a 100% Agave Spirit...WOW...people really have nothing better to do!
Here's the real deal with Porfidio: it's back in the United States and has been for at least a couple of years now.
I personally purchased a bottle of Porfidio Plata for $64.99 at a store in Los Angeles. It was not only by far the most superb "100% Agave Spirit" (Porfidio no longer markets itself as a "tequila" but as a "Super-Jalisco", in reference to the sought-after and expensive "Super-Tuscan" wines) I've ever tasted, but was well worth the price.
Porfidio Plata is simply the best. I remeber tasting their Añejo in years past, but I haven't been able to find it yet. I can't wait to taste this one when it comes out!
Overall, I give this product a BIG A++++ and a HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED. It is my favorite one out there.
