Pros: Durable, long battery life, well-designed Cons: A bit bulky
A bug infestation at Epinions.com for much of October left me with a bit of extra time on my hands, which turned out to be a good thing. There were a bunch of aging honey-dos collecting dust at the bottom of the job jar, mostly involving hanging new...
Pros: tons of torque, high-speed, durable Cons: No Way
I think cordless drills are somewhat like Epinions everybody's got one. Now maybe I'm mistaken but if there is one power tool that you will find in a majority of American homes it is the cordless drill. Now if your reading this and your saying to...
Pros: Good Performer, it's not yellow. Cons: Still a cordless
I spent 18 years as a professional carpenter, bought ran and sold a millwork shop, and am now on my 22nd year as a composite toolmaker/engineering liaison. I know tools and I am not always nice to them. I'm not a sculptor or artist; building a...
Pros: sleek design, easy to use, adjustable speed and torque, great for homeowners and DIY Cons: Burns out after very heavy use
The company I work for provides cordless drills for each of it's employees. Most of the time we buy DeWalt's 12v or higher, but one of my recent trainees insisted on having the Porter Cable. We bought the drill and put it to the test. He drove screw...
Pros: very high speed and torque for a 14.4V Cons: a bit heavy
I've only had one doubt with my PC. Once when I was using it, I was trying to put in a very long wood screw into some wooden forms, and it felt like the handle, where it is split in the middle, was moving apart from each side, just a bit. I was afraid my...
The Cordless Drill is one of the best tools to ever come along. Like all tools you have poor, fair, good and outstanding. Porter-Cable 3/8 Cordless Drill rates as outstanding. It is powerful drill, but yet still easy to handle not hard to get into...
Pros: Lots of Torque, well balanced Cons: ??? None yet
Tested the 9876 on a torque tester. The High Torque setting I twisted off three 1/4" drive adapters. I finally got and adapter made from hardened steal and the Drill tested at 360inlb of torque. Switched to High Speed and it dropped to 100inlb which is...
This drill is equipped with power and durability of a freight train. This is how it feels to drill with this drill. I have built a garage with this drill and it was put through that month. It still works like it was bought yesterday. You can buy this...
Why would they make the clutch out of glass? by son_of_cronos ,Dec 22 '03
Pros: Good battery, torque and charger. Cons: Very fragile and problematic clutch.
I bought mine at Totem builders. At first I loved it. The power is ample, and I did not find it too heavy. The batteries were good, I liked the charger with a 'trickle' feature that does not cook your battery if you leave it on the cradle.
BUT
I broke my first chuck knocking the drill off a chair. Porter-Cable took their time about the warranty. When it came back it would not stay in High gear. That may have been incompetent service. Two weeks later the clutch broke again. I know, don't abuse it and I don't mistreat my tools. It is supposed to do work, not sit on a little velvet napkin somewhere.
Anyway, 18 months after I bought it totem gave me full credit and I got a brand new 14.4, also from PC with a hammerdrill feature. I will have to use that and review it separately.
