Pros: On-the-fly selectable trigger (single shot or semi-auto), light weight, tool-free depth setting, ergonomics, hard-shell case. Cons: All round-head nail guns have magazines that are too long.
I frame/finish the occasional basement, build sheds, and other small projects. I recently completed an exhaustive comparison of commonly-found framing nail guns. My choice, in the end, was the Porter-Cable FR350A (not to be confused with the older ...
I recently had to renovate my garage from a flat roof to a pitched one with little more than occasional help from my son who pitched in during frequent visits home. Knowing this I soon realized If I was going to make this job look right, I would have to...
How did I ever get along without this Nailer?! by portert0224 ,Oct 09 '04
Pros: Power, reliability, ease of use, nail capacity. Cons: Size and Weight.
I cannot say enough about how much use I get out of this nailer. I cannot believe how much time it saves and how much time I've wasted in the past by using a hand-held hammer.
It is powerful, easy to use, holds plenty of nails and durable.
The only thing I would improve is I would reduce the size and weight and I would somehow give me bite to the tooth to improve severe angle nail driving.
Pros: No jamming. Light weight and the price is right. Cons: Cheap rubber on the handle
I bought this nailer to frame my 3400 sq ft house. Since I am currently moved in and working on the trim, I can this nailer. It worked great even though it took a lot of abuse. Can't remember it jamming at all. Easy to find nails for at the Home Depot. The rubber wrapped grip is a little cheap. It wore off before I got done with the house.
Refurbished But Good As New by dlysell ,Sep 26 '03
Pros: Well made, low jam rate Cons: none
I purchased this nailer as a refurbished unit from a local home improvement store. It was marked down as 50% off current price. Although it showed it had been used, I purchased it anyway. This nailer has performed as well as any new one. This nailer drives nails extremely well, and with an adjustable depth setting that is easy to use. It does not have the ability of changing mode from bump to single shot. However, if you hold it tight it seems to not fire multiple times as I have experienced with other brands. It has shot 3 cases of nails with no jams, and no problems. I would highly recommend this nailer to anyone who needed one.
Pros: Very reliable and durable. Cons: Requires tools for adjustments.
Been using the FR350 for about 2 1/2 years now. I am a contractor, and it has seen fairly heavy use. This is a rock solid piece of iron, like most Porter Cable tools.
The good stuff:
1. I don't remember any jams.
2. It feels good in my hand.
3. It always works. Nuff said?
My gripes:
1. It requires a hex key to set the drive depth.
All in all, this is a solid tool. It has given me consistent performance, day in and day out. I never worry about this tool.
