Pros: overall hosting is ok, offers some interesting prepackaged software, relatively inexpensive, little downtime

With the Endurance Inc take-over of Powweb, the customers have lost what was once a conscientious and user-based service. The 'new' Powweb is absolutely the worst hosting company I've seen yet. Slow page loads, slow and often timing-out FTP connection, diminished services, slow and clueless customer service.

But their branding is great. You can now tell immediately if you find a website hosted by Powweb. It's the one that never loads.

Some support tickets aren't answered at all, while others take weeks to resolve. After hosting 5 sites with Powweb since 2003, I've moved to Bluehost.

I saw a good review for powweb and decided to give it a try. Transfered my entire site over, which was very complex and a timely process. I rely on the sql databases and have close to a GB of content.

After all the work, the performance has been terrible! Page loading is ridiculously slow, and they have changed the sql server a number of times causing things to malfunction. Uploading via ftp never goes smoothly, and sometimes the site does not load at all. Someone please tell me where to find a decent server! I thought I found a deal, but the long run this has been an expensive mistake!

I have been with Powweb for 3 years. Unfortunately, they have been bought by a holding company called Endurance that is in the business of buying up hosting services and conglomerating them into one network. During the migration of Powweb accounts to the servers at Endurance there were innumerable problems. Just read the Powweb forum. Of course many complaints were removed by the heavy-handed forum moderators but there are still a mountain of them. Endurance seems to have been ill-prepared for the migration and unable to cope with many of the common content management and commercial packages that the old Powweb handled nicely. Right now Endurance seems to have a problem with their backbone service as well. The customer service is a laugh (except when you're crying). FTP service is erratic with delays and dropped connections. There are constant Mysql database problems. The email service is very bad.

The bottom line- Avoid Powweb or any hosting service that Endurance has taken over.

If you have blog DO NOT use Powweb.

Slow, slower, slowest -- dead.

Upgrades helped none. I finally gave up.

Cons: MySql servers are on a different "domain" so you cannot remotely connect to them.

Powweb certainly used to have some issues with MySQL.  But, they recently seem to have fixed this.  I know that my site is now MUCH faster, and editing MySQL databases with phpMyAdmin is also a lot fast than it used to be.
