  • You Never Forget Your First One

    Jul 14, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Well-built elliptical trainer, good exercise
Cons: A bit heavier than newer models, moderate functionality

Summary: About 2 1/2 years ago, I tore my rotator cuff, in effect ending the daily lifting portion of my workouts, as well as most of my extracurricular activities for a while. It was during that time, needing an alternative workout, that I discovered the ... read more

Pros: Quiet operation, robust mechanical construction, good reversible motion, finely adjusted resistance
Cons: Short stride, no arm motion, pedals spaced too wide, no exercise of calves

Summary: I've tested perhaps a dozen and a half different elliptical machines of price range from US$150 to US$3400 at retail stores and health clubs. I also own a ProForm 485e elliptical. After using this particular model at my health club, I don't ... read more

    Pros: Great Workout, Durable
    Cons: Price

Summary: The Precor EFX 544 is used in the health club that I work as a personal trainer at. We currently have four of these machines, all of which are always filled with members seeking a low impact workout. During the 2+ years I have been working at this ... read more

    Nov 13, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Heavy duty construction
    Cons: No upper-body workout

Summary: I have used the Precor EFX544 several times at the club and have been disappointed in the results of these workouts compared that of other elliptical cross-trainers. The EFX544 does not have total-body capabilities. I have found that I can reach my ... read more

    Oct 23, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: great range of workouts
    Cons: huge machine

Summary: I love this machine. I have been an advanced runner for over 10 years now, and with the physical fitness comes injury. I am a distance runner and between cross-country, road-running, and track workouts you can get really busted up. During several ... read more

    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Easy to use; great courses; fully adjustable
    Cons: Feet fall asleep

Summary: This is my favorite piece of exercise equipment at my local rec center; I use it at least twice a week. Everyone else at the rec center seems to love it, too, men and women. The sign-up list is sometimes pretty long. There are several nice ... read more

    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Varied low impact workout that's fun
    Cons: Nothing significant

  • The strange machine that really works

    Aug 26, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Excellent aerobic workout
    Cons: Intimidating at first

Summary: I'm always open to new workout suggestions from friends. When a good pal recommended the Precor elliptical machine at our gym, I figured what the heck, I could use a little change in my routine. However, when I got a glimpse of this piece of equipment, ... read more

  • Gym Owner's Opinion

    Aug 9, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Low impact intense workout that's addictive
Cons: Calorie counter seems to err on the high side.

Summary: The Precor Ellipticals are surely one of the favorite pieces of exercise equipment in my gym. They give a great workout with the advantage of being low impact, unlike the treadmills where you are constantly landing and impacting your knees. I put maybe ... read more

  • MY MACHINE OF CHOICE AT THE GYM...

    May 26, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: versatile for beginner and advanced, solidly constructed
Cons: takes up a lot of room, price is what you'd pay for a gym membership

Summary: Let me qualify this opinion by first stating that this is my machine of choice when I go to the gym. I don't actually own one, but I still can offer a lot of insight into it's operation and features. The best way I can do this is by going through the ... read more

  • Egg Shape Motion Is OK

    Mar 25, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Good aerobic workout that's easy on the knees
Cons: Ride a little rough with this model

Summary: Why do all the epinion writers seem to love the Precor 546 while some disdain the 544? They look pretty much the same to me. My gym has both, so I tried one of those experiments that get people looking at you funny--going back and forth between them. ... read more

  • WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT

    Jan 18, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: one of many low impact aerobic work out machines
    Cons: always broken, awkward movement

Summary: Most people like to make intelligent buys. They like to get the best product for the money. People want value and reliability. If you are a person, then you don't want this product. I have used it several times in my college campus ... read more

    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Very high quality.
Cons: Too expensive to have at home.

Summary: I have an old knee injury that makes my knee start hurting after 20 minutes on the treadmill, and after 10 minutes on a stationary bike. Therefore, the Precor 544 is a true blessing - it's so easy on the knees that I can go at high speed for an ... read more

    Pros: fun, easy
    Cons: light workout, no races

  • Works great for me!

    Nov 10, 2003 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Good range of pre-programmed courses, with excellent programability to tailor it to your needs.
Cons: Few, but I would like it if the resistance varied with the programs.

Summary: I have tried three or four other commercial elliptical trainers, and this one works very well for me. I am not looking for toning every single part of my body with one machine, as I don't believe that is attainable. But for a great round of flexibility ... read more
