Pros: Reliable, low noise, good workout Cons: Cost
I have never been a fan of Precor type machines, but my wife uses them almost exclusively. We both have gym memberships but due to the demands of work, my wife didn't have a lot of time to go to the gym regularly. So a few months ago, we went to a ...

Pros: Good quality equipment, same feel as the gym,low impact/high results exercise Cons: some problems with electronics
The Precor EFX 5.17 is a good investment in staying healthy. I have an arthritic knee and found it to be about the best piece of equipment at the gym for me to get the best cardio workout without having a lot of pain along with it. Unfortunately, these...
Pros: smooth & well built, solid Cons: minor repair needed after 6 months. expensive
We purchased the Precor in September of 2000. I'm an avid cyclist and wanted something to do in the winter. I've used elliptical trainers in the gym and they seem to stress my knees the least.

I love my Precor EFX5.17 machine. It was expensive at $2100.00 in November of 1999, but it was well worth it! Having this machine at home allows me to work out when I want to and wear what ever I want to in the comfort of my home. Going to the gym is...

Pros: ergonomic, full leg workout. Cons: irregular noise
I have owned the EFX5.17 for 6 months and I have had several issues w/ the unit. Despite the smooth ride and the great workout, the machine will not stop making metal grinding noises. I have had the Fitness Depot (company unit was purchased from) technicians in 3 times and they can't figure out the problem either. The wheels have been replaced but the problem still continues.
Pros: Great Workout Cons: Pricey, did not meet my expectations
Purchased the precor 5.17i with great expectations after using it for years at a health club. Was assured by sales personal that the home model would meet my needs.. Started having problems.... lots of clicking and wheel noises primarily on right wheel side and ramp. The Fitness Store was very good about sending out service personnel. however could not fix the problem. They are now authorizing a refund claiming there is a flaw in the design and the problem can never be fixed. Precor is denying that there is a design issue.
