Pros: Easy to use; inexpensive; works upper and lower body. Cons: Flimsy; only four programs; a knob for resistance.
The ProForm 650 CrossTrainer Elliptical machine is the first elliptical machine by ProForm that I have reviewed. At the low, low price of $300 to $400 it is also one of the most inexpensive around. ProForm is made by ICON the company that also makes ...
Pros: Low Cost; small footprint; low profile Cons: Complicated assembly; creaky; shaky; heavy; hard to move; poor electronics; manual tension adjustment;

I was looking for something to supplement my gym membership on days that I could not make it to the gym. Long term, I am looking to replace my gym membership with a home gym. I am 6'0" and 170#. I like to do at least 30 minutes of...

We wanted an elliptical machine with a moderate price. After reading the reviews on others we went shopping. In the store this machine was the most comfortable and stable for us. We tried ones that were rated fairly high and more expensive...
I purchased my elliptical really cheap (under $200) from someone on craigslist. It works, and it gets your heart pumping, but it is uncomfortable. I loved the fact that it has training programs and it was small. But I first noticed some back aches and my ...
Pros: none Cons: flimsy, critical design flaw means adjuster knob almost certain to fail at some point
Discovered fatal design flaw regarding tension adjuster. Read on for details. I bought the Proform 650 in January 03. I went through two units. With the first, I opened the box and discovered the supports on the bottom of the unit were bent, as if ...
How did it work.... NOT TOO GOOD by jmitch1965 ,Dec 29 '06
Pros: Inexpensive up front price. Cons: Cheaply built, won't last long.
Very poor quality. I weigh 215, and used the machine every day. After about 2 months, the creaks and groans (on the machine, not me) were very loud. Then the bar that connects the handle to the rear drum broke in half. First one, then the other. Been through 4 now. Best thing I can say is I got my moneys worth out of the extended warranty.
More problems than what it was Worth by dimack ,May 17 '06
Pros: It was quiet like they said and didn't take up much space. Cons: Cheaply made.
After purchasing it from HSN, I saw immediately it was more than I thought for assembly. But my husband and I got through that.
3 days later, something snapped in the back belt area.
Couldn't even get to the belt area to see if it could be fixed.
Had to return it. That meant taking it apart again, paying 12 dollars at U-Haul for the right size box, and trying to fit it into that box.
First of all, don't buy a product like this online, to hard to return, and second of all, DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
Pros: Price, size Cons: Difficult assembly, excessive maintenance, poor quality, unstable in use
Have used my machine (600) well under an hour a day for about a year and a half.
On the positive side, the machine cost under $500 at Sam's Club.
It has a repeated need for lubrication and tightening - a greasy, messy experience each time. The machine was difficult to assemble, is not stable, is noisy (frequent squeaks, and snaps with each revolution at times, etc.), plus has damaged and broken parts.
I understand various other popular brands are made by same company, and I would avoid them also. I bought a new Proform recently to give them another try, but the parts were so misaligned, it could not be assembled. In my experience, they got worse with their new model than the junk I got originally.
Would not recommend. Experience with many parts breaking. by coolrobb ,Dec 28 '05
Pros: Like the workout, does not take up as much space. Cons: Experienced multiple part breaks in short period of time.
In February of 2005 I purchased this cross trainer and in December 2005 I got rid of it. During the time I had it, cross members on both sides broke. It was made with a cheap metal that fatigued over time. The replacement part was much improved however and never broke a second time. Once I had two new cross members, I started braking axles. By the time I was completely fed up with the machine, I broke two axles in a matter of 4 months. I am 6'2" around 220lbs. If you are around my size and wish to workout 3-4 times a week for 30-45 min this is not the machine for you.
The machine when working was rather nice, and my wife and I liked the workout we would get each day.
Garbage not worth the money or time by mequonjim ,Feb 15 '05
Pros: Cheap (but not worth it) Cons: Basically everything. See the review.
I had this hunk of junk for about a year. Sure it is cheap, but there are real problems. Assembly was a nightmare. I could never get this thing to be quiet, and I tried various modifications. Finally this machine broke. I mean the steel literally broke. Not on a weld, right in the middle. Whoever designed this product should be fired. Icon Health & Fitness, Inc. should be ashamed of themselves. Hopefully they are bankrupt. Obviously I would never buy another product from them again.
Pros: Cheap price--you get what you paid for. Cons: Cheap, squeaky, worthless warranty.
I bought a Proform 650 elliptical for my wife for Xmas 2002. We had problems with the computer right out of the box. I called the store where I bought it and they said they would replace it. I hauled it back there (not an easy thing to do since it was, of course, assembled) and they did replace it with a 750. It's now less than a year later and the computer is now not functioning. It is totally useless. Replacement cost of the computer is $176.57 plus shipping. They cannot be repaired. I paid around $300 for the whole thing. Other complaints that I have about the thing are noise (it squeaks and creaks alot) but we learned to live with that, and it does not sit flat on my hard basement floor--I had to shim the thing. Save yourself the frustration and stay away from Proform. A 90 day warranty is practically worthless.
Cardio Cross Trainer 650 suggestion and Question by boaz28 ,Dec 05 '09
Pros: Fulfills its job Cons: Not durable
I have the ProForm Elliptical Cardio Cross Trainer 650 for about 5 years being used at an average of twice a week. The shock absorber suspension that is under the pedals was broken. I replaced it with a track shock absorber suspension that was cut and tuned to the same size.
If somebody knows how to replace the battery, plesae add comment.
Pros: Less expensive than most models Cons: Squeaks/rattles, poor build quality
I owned a ProForm 650 CardioCrossTrainer elliptical for three years. The tension adjustment mechanism failed after about 6 months. At around 3 months the elliptical developed some squeaks and rattles, which eventually worsened. I stopped using it because the frame broke.
