Pros: It does remove some potentially harmful sediments. Cons: Bulky, ugly, damages your faucet, limited benefit, expensive.
Summary: Review of PUR Ultimate Water Filter (February 8, 2005) Every now and then we experience heavy rains for long periods of time in our area. Normally it does not cause a major problem, except for one rather disgusting side effect. On occasion, it turns ... read more

Pros: Ease of use Cons: Unreliable and will break after a very short amount of time.
Summary: This was the third Pur Faucet mount I bought, after the first two, that were the regular PLUS model broke. I really liked the idea of a faucet mount, as it seemed the most cost effective solution to the water problem in my home. We drink a lot of ... read more

Pros: Sturdy construction. Cons: Holds stagnant water.
Summary: Before trying this unit, I struggled with the Brita On-Tap system. Although this unit doesn't suffer from the many Brita design deficiencies, it does something quite harmful: it holds stagnant water. My mom bought this unit a year before I did. She ... read more

Pros: Reasonable cost; not overly large for faucet; filters water nicely. Cons: Replacement filter costs high (especially single pack); read mounting instructions in manual to avoid problems.
Summary: Although I find that the quality of the tap water to our house is good, my wife does not like the chlorine taste (which to me is not very noticeable). We used to purchase inexpensive bottled water from a dispensing machine at our nearby grocery store but ... read more

Pros: Only filter (in this price range) that removes the most harmful chemicals from municipal water. Cons: Slow filtration (about 10 seconds for 8oz -- 20 seconds toward end of filter life).
Summary: Pur's new faucet-mount filters are much better than they were a few years ago -- although still not trouble-free. In 2001, I gave the Pur Plus Faucet Mount a bad Epinions review. It did a decent job filtering the water, but the unit kept leaking, ... read more

Pros: Easy to install. Good tasting water. Attractive fixture. Cons: Short filter life - clogs quickly. Replacement indicator inaccurate. Hangs too low in sink.
Summary: I recently purchased a PUR filter to replace my culligan. The automatic filter change indicator appealed to me since I often forgot to change my culligan until the water quality started to taste off or the filter rate would slow to a drip. This was often ... read more

Pros: Good filtering of water, tastes great. Easy to change filter. Cons: Expensive. The housings are cheap and crack before even one filter changing.
