Pros: Wonderful character development and an intriguing plot line Cons: Left me wanting more at the end
Summary: The answer is yes. Like many people, I read this book after seeing the musical. I loved the show and wanted some more information on the characters. I thought that this was a book that I was capable of handling. My last experience of reading a book ... read more

Pros: Well written, cleverly done, easily read...time well spent! Cons: Some unfinished stories at the end...left me wanting more.
Summary: If it weren't for my book club, I'd have probably never read this book. Published in 1975, it's older than the books I normally select. As 'required reading', and without seeing either the movie or the musical, I somewhat reluctantly started this E. L. ... read more

Pros: Great style, great story Cons: Don't let the musical replace the book!
Summary: I admit it: I first read Ragtime in anticipation of the musical. And it was great.
It was a page-turner, but I can tell you why: each thread of the interweaving subplots is written in a quick, episodic style. Doctorow is easy to read, ... read more
