Ok, so maybe it wasn't a total nightmare, the location was perfect, right across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. If you plan on coming to the city to attend an event at the Garden and only need a cheap place to crash, then this...
Pros: Location and helpful staff Cons: My tiny room with blood stains
I've seriously never seen a room this small before. Seriously. And there were two beds in it. Wow. It's an amazing accomplishment of human engineering, really that they got me, my best friend, and all of our stuff into this tiny, tiny room.
...
Pros: Location Cons: Rude staff; lack of rooms; bad food
The only redeeming quality about this hotel is the location. I traveled up to NY on business and decided on the hotel due to its proximity to Penn Station. I will also give it a nod towards the cheaper price. However, after staying there a night, I would ...
Pros: Location, amenities and services for the price Cons: A bit dingy
I need to jump in and say that my experience at The New Yorker was not bad at all. Yes, it was almost a year ago that I stayed there, and the joint may well have gone severely downhill since. But based on my one visit a year ago, I would stay at The New ...
Pros: Comfortable room. Great view of the city. Great location. Affordable price. Cons: A lot of people outside (Maybe its the holiday season)
This was my 4th time to New York and I got to say the New Yorker Hotel is by far the best hotel I've been in. Everyone there was very accommodating. The hotel has great amenities, excellent location and a great view( from our rooms). It is right in ...
Okay, my wife and I went to NYC in Nov. '01. We were going up from Philadelphia to see a concert at Madison Square Garden on a Friday night, and then her family was meeting us Saturday to see a show and stay until Sunday. Well, I had originally...
We stayed at Ramada when we visited New York city for the first time. I do not see why so many people wrote bad reviews, we enjoyed staying at Ramada a lot. Yes, the room was kind of small, but it's New York! To get a big room you have to pay A LOT more! ...
Pros: Great location. Easy access to subway, the Garden and Time Square. Cons: Rooms are a little small, halls a little dirty, but ok
It took me quite a bit of time to decide to stay in downtown Manhattan and a while to find a hotel. I thought that staying in Manhattan would cost quite a bit of money but when I compared it to staying across the river in Jersey and what it would cost to...
Great Location, Clean and Tidy :) by mancinakilt ,Nov 10 '06
Pros: clean and tidy, good location free HBO :) Cons: its going under renovations but they are only mon to fri.
The New Yorker Hotel is clean and tidy it is under going some external and internal renovations but it is still a good place to stay we had'nt stayed there since 2000 but i'm glad we went back.
The room we had was on the 33rd Floor and had great views of the Hudson river and the Upper West Side, there was plenty of towels in the bathroom and a hair dryer, we even had a fridge and iron and ironing board.
The staff were polite and helpful, especially at the front desk when we checked in and needed to make any enquiries. It might not be the best of the best but it certainly is not the worst and has a great location at 34th street and 8th avenue.
Pros: Clean
Good sized room Cons: Wind going through air conditioner unit is very loud
I was nervous to stay here after reading the previous reviews, but it turned out to not be bad at all. We were in a room with a king bed on the 36th floor, and though it wasn't "the Ritz" it was clean (my main priority in a hotel) and nicely sized for a hotel room in NYC. We had our 5-month old baby with us, and I was comfortable having her stay in this hotel. The first night it was very windy and the wind going through the window air conditioning unit was very loud, so I would recommend bringing ear plugs. As others report, it is in a good location. The staff was friendly. We did have to wait a long time to store our luggage after check-out, but we chose to do that right at noon (check-out time) so the line might not always be so bad. In summary, I think this is a fine hotel to stay at if you want to be right in convenient Manhattan and not pay too much money.
Worth the price, worth the time. by jmikiokio ,Feb 25 '04
Pros: Room, location. Cons: Congested on the streets, very crowded.
Traveling to a big city is always anxious for me, especially when I have to pay out of my own pocket. I went to New York in January and stayed at the New Yorker Hotel and it turned out to be one of the better things on that trip. The price was what I can afford, reasonable for this kind of hotel. But what really surprise me was the room, contrast to a lot of what I've read, I didn't have any problem sleeping at night. The room was very warm and the bed comfy, very much needed during this winter. I didn't have to go through any problems with the staff, in fact they were very informative as far as where to go in the city. The location of the hotel is great since its in the middle of Manhattan and allowed great access to a lot of the areas I wanted to go. Again, three things that impressed me; Comfort, location and helpfulness.
Pros: Cheapest place you can stay and not be in slums. Appropriate for only one individual. Cons: Tiny room, no refrigerator, bad plumbing, tiny shower, no room to sit or stand.
This place has TINY rooms with no fridge and toilets that don't flush. The door to the room opens and it hits the bed. The bathroom door can't be open if someone is standing in the room at the same time, the other person must lay down on the bed if anyone needs to walk to the bathroom. There is no place to sit except on the bed. No room to walk except for the one foot perimeter around the bed. Tiny. Pay the extra bucks and get a hotel room (somewhere else) that will make your trip to NYC one you will look back on and enjoy.
will not go to this hotel again by man_agg ,Mar 10 '07
Pros: Located in the heart of Manhattan Cons: Small rooms, queries/complaints not addressed
I had stayed in New Yorker Ramada hotel for 4 days. The over all experience was very bad and I would not like to go into this hotel again. The rooms are very small. Wi-fi internet network never works (even in the rooms, which are supposed to be wi-fi enabled). During stay, queries and complaints are rarely addressed.
