Pros: Inexpensive and did the job for a while (but just doing the job isn't enough!) Cons: Apparently the trimmer breaks easily. The battery failed without much use.
*** Updated 10/7/05 *** Absolutely do not buy this shaver. Instead, get the Braun shaver I review here: h

Pros: Close shave, good design, built-in trimmer Cons: VERY short battery life, trimmer breaks easily, expensive to upkeep
I've had my shaver for about 2.5 years now. The shaver comes with a 2 year warranty and wouldn't you know it - just over that warranty the thing quit working. The shaver does give a very nice, close shave but it certainly lacks battery life and should ...

Mustache clipper & battery
by ckovy ,Sep 29 '03
Pros: Battery life during the first year is great. Cons: The mustache clipper quit after nine months and it quit charging after one year.
I purchased this razor about 12-14 months ago. Initially, it was great. I could shave 3-4 days on a single charge. The idea of rinsing the blades off made this particular razor even more attractive.
However, about three months ago, the mustache clipper stopped working. Last month, I was running late for work and took the razor with me. I was able to shave about 1/3 of my face when the battery died. It had been plugged in for at least two days before then. Now, I can only use it when it is plugged in.
This past week, the blades started to dull. I was contemplating replacing the blades but am unsure as to how long the razor will last. Instead, I will buy another Norelco.

Short on Durability
by leep ,Jul 13 '04
Pros: Can rinse the cutting blades Cons: Short life on battery and trimmer
Purchased the Microflex about 18 months ago. Worked great at the beginning and I really liked being able to rinse the cutting blades. About 4 months ago the trimmer stopped working and now the battery won't hold a charge more than 1 or 2 shaves. Just purchased a refurbished Braun 7526 from Amazon with nickel metal hydride batteries that should last longer.

Excellent Shave, fragile plastic case
by willie-t ,Jul 30 '04
Pros: Smooth Shave Cons: Too fragile, easy to break plastic
I purchased this shaver in March 2004 for a good price. Within the first month the plastic head guard snapped apart for no apparent reason. Recently, while cleaning the blades, a plastic hinge snapped, so now I am shaving with a near new razor held together with scotch tape. The razor does shave above average (close), but the cheap, brittle plastic body leaves a lot to be desired...it has never been dropped, or abused. It is simply fragile, and easy to break.

Best I've owned aside from the battery life
by nickerdog ,Sep 22 '05
Pros: Great close, fast shaft Cons: Battery life
This model is the best I've had. It cuts close with a smooth shave. The bad part is the life of the battery which gave out on my after a little over a year. I still use it, but it has to be plugged in. I'll be buying a new one after purchasing a different Remington model and finding out how much better the 9100 is. I wouldn't think I would be so picky about an electric razor, but there is a noticable difference between different models.

A big thumbs down for this lemon
by nhstan ,Oct 17 '05
Pros: Comfortable body, easy to clean heads. Cons: Uncomfortable shave, trimmer breaks easily, unreliable battery.
I've gone through two of these razors in just under two years now. The first one lasted for almost a year when the trimmer broke. No problem. I promptly returned it to the factory and it was replaced with a new one. Now, 10 months later, the battery will not hold a charge at all and the trimmer has broken again. My feeling is that it's not worth getting it exchanged again since I know it will just break again.
Aside from this Remington R9100's terrible reliability record, I wasn't too impressed with it as a shaver either. I still get razor burn around my neck whenever I use it, and the shaves aren't all that close. It is nowhere near a real razor shave.
On the plus side, the body is well shaped and comfortable to hold, and the head is easy to clean and replace. Of course, I don't see any reason why you would have to replace the head, since it will outlast the life of the razor anyway.
All in all, a truly miserable product that is thrown out money.

Ditto the mustache trimmer and battery
by mikemac6046 ,Nov 21 '03
Pros: comfortable grip, close shave, can be rinsed off Cons: mustache trimmer stopped working after 3-4 months
My experience with this razor is very similar to ckovy's comments. I purchased it because the price and features were just what I was looking for. The shave is great, very close and smooth. The feel of the shaver is comfortable and the battery life is very good. Rinsing it afterward is a great feature. However, just recently, after about 3-4 months of use, the mustache trimmer also stopped working. I am in the process of finding out how to go about getting it fixed. I've written to Remington and will see what they say. As for the battery life, I'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, these problems are only minor, because I have been very pleased with this razor until now.

Close shave but bad battery
by meirowsky ,Sep 21 '04
Pros: Close shave Cons: Mechanical flaws
I have owned the Remington Microflex Ultra for about two years. I upgraded to this model after using another electric shaver model of Remington's. I was pretty pleased with the product.
The shave is really closer than a blade and was pretty effective in shaving around the neck. It seems like I got less bumps that occurred in the past.
I liked the idea of cleaning it up by opening the top and holding it under the faucet. However, there was one problem with this. During the next day's shave, the motor sounded strained and the shave was a little difficult.
One problem that I have found with both of my Remington shavers is that the trimmer goes bad and stops working.
The battery is good for about two years and won't hold a charge anymore.

I used this razor for...
by donny_ak_dt3000 ,Feb 15 '03
I used this razor for almost 3 weeks. It seems to be a decent performer when shaving the upper face, however, this was not true for my neck area. I consistently had to go over the same area repeatedly with little benefit and some of the worst razor burn of my life. My neck hair grows very close to my skin and is very difficult to cut, even with a blade at times. What I did like about the razor is the long battery life and the nice contour hugging head design. It also has more blades than a Norelco razor, which produced a faster shave on my upper face. Unfortunately, this razor was not a good fit for my face so I took it back. I have gone back to using my old Wet/Dry Panasonic foil razor. I would probably recommend the Remington razor to someone that likes rotary razors, doesn't want to pay the inflated Norelco prices, and does not have sensitive skin.

"It leaves my face feeling like I just shaved with a rusty pocket knife..."
by david91107 ,Dec 09 '05
Pros: Seems to charge quickly. Cons: Shave is neither close or comfortable.
I recently switched from Braun for the first time in ~10 years. I did this because the Braun shavers seem to only last about a year before one thing or another goes wrong with them. But after trying the Remington R 9270, Im going back to Braun ASAP.
This shaver hurts. It leaves my face feeling like I just shaved with a rusty pocket knife. But perhaps worse is the quality of the shave. It's anything but close. If you want to keep a 5 o'clock shadow, then this is the shaver for you. If you want a comfortable and close shave this unit is not the one to buy. Im returning it one week after buying it.
