Pros: Inexpensive, quick, constant re-watering Cons: Inattentive service otherwise, loud
I Shoulda Been Doing This on Fridays More Often My office has been mere blocks from Union Square for two years, but how often do I go in that direction to eat? Seldom. The best of the area is simply too expensive to make a regular journey ...

Pros: The lime lemonade was excellent. Cons: Mediocre food, slow service, uncomfortable seating.
I recently decided to try out Republic after walking by it time and time again and after hearing many things about it...both good and bad. I figured it was time to get my own opinion of the place. So I snagged a friend and headed over there for ...

Pros: Food comes quickly, nice atmosphere, trendy people, always full of good looking people... people watching place, Cons: Not really a satisfying meal, go to a real Asian restaurant and you'll be happier.
Everytime I go to Republic I end up confused.
Just what are they trying to get at? They're kind of like soft-core erotica, they give you a hint of the good stuff but never go all the way.
Republic serves decent dishes of mixed asian descent. I...

Pros: food is DELICIOUS Cons: gets noisy inside
Hello, I am deliciae, and I am addicted to Republic's chicken udon.
Hi, deliciae...
I'm not well-versed in the world of gourmet dining despite being a native New Yorker and surrounded by foodie haunts, so let me just praise what I...

Pros: Fast Cons: Too fast, service mediocre, atmosphere
Going to Republic on the advice of a friend, I wanted to pop in for a quick meal before the theater. Well, I got the quick meal, and that's about it.
The place was terribly crowded and had a noise level so high that it made it difficult to...

Pros: Healthy, fresh, flavorful food. Cons: Do I have a waiter? Does he care?
New York City is grossly lacking in restaurants that provide high-quality food for low prices. Where is the dining equivalent of Loehmann's?
Well, my hungry friends, it is at 37 Union Square West and it is called Republic. With small dishes...

Pros: fast & healthy Cons: noisy -- and only good for light meals
Republic is a great place to grab a quick and affordable bite, but you have to play it right. If you sit at one of the ugly tables, you're missing half the fun!
Opt for seats at the counter facing the kitchen -- there you can watch the staff...

Pros: Inexpensive, Wonderful Food, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Very Loud (For Me This is a Pro, but Some May Not Appreciate It!)
The Republic noodle house represents something quite odd and quite unusual in New York--a place serving up freshly-prepared, healthy, tasty food at cheap (by NY standards) prices. I grew up in New York and still get back from time-to-time, and am...

Pros: Good noodle dishes, reasonable prices Cons: Noise, and more noise, service inconsistent
What a dysfunctional fusion concept - Greeted at the front by non-Asians, Orders taken by non-Asians, Food cooked and served by Asians, and dishes bused by Asians.
Pros:
1) Unique presentation and preparation of Asian fusion food. The...

Pros: yummy food, good prices, good ambiance Cons: very trendy, not a good choice if you're looking for traditional asian food
republic is right next door to where i live, and i was reluctant to go inside because it appeared to be very pricey and very hip in an intimidating kind of way. i was pleasantly surprised when i looked at the menu and found most of the entrees priced at...

Pros: good food for cheap prices Cons: still a little trendy...
Rarely in New York do you get a trendy, modern setting with cheap prices and friendly service. Republic has all the necessary ingredients for a hip New York restaurant: beautiful staff, minimalist decor, great location, and experimental cooking....

Pros: Noodles Cons: Bland
In the new world order, when we live under a utilitarian rule all restaurants will be like this one. Patrons sit on benches and order from futuristic waiters who carry computers and wear black clothing.
The noodle options are diverse and...

Pros: cheap, competent food Cons: uncomfortable chairs, loud, hurried
By the time you're done eating at Republic, your butt will hurt. It's true. You'll sit one unpadded wooden benches, possibly at a table with people you don't know while you eat their good, affordable pan-asian food. The room tries to go for...

Pros: Great food, and great design Cons: communal tables, noise level
Republic Restaurant, (37 Union Square West. Between 16th and 17th Streets)
has become a regular part of my restaurant itinerary. It's not just your everyday noodle shop. It was designed by the noted French architect Philippe Starck. The design is...

Pros: Cheap menu. Cons: Trendy, loud busy spot to grab a taste of Asian flavors.
I first went to Republic years ago, for a bite between classes. Walking around the Union Square area, this place offers decent food at truly low prices. The portions are small, but given the prices, ordering extra food isn't a problem. In this...
